I just left the Safeway at 1655 El Camino Real in San Mateo. First of all I felt the individual was rude because I asked for the fresh nuggets and Chicken Strips he removed the bad Strips with an attitude and gave me some hard Nuggets that should not have been given. SAD!!!!!! I wish I could add a video.

Safeway. What can I say except they use to be awesome, they use to be great, they use to be good...now they're just meh. Yesterday, I brought some pastry to the self checkout at my local Safeway in San Mateo/Foster City. The pastry was from their 1/2 off bin they use to get rid of overstock / dated items. I picked three items from the bin. I brought them to the front to check out. But only ONE of the IDENTICAL ITEMS had the 50% off sticker...the other TWO exact items from the 1/2 off bin were missing a sticker. (see attached) The clerk charged me the FULL PRICE for the two that had the missing sticker when I asked for her help scanning. She asked me if there were other same cakes with a 50% sticker intact. I said yes, there are many. Another clerk walked by and she asked him about getting another TWO cakes for me from the 1/2 off bin. He replied, "Oh, thems cakes been off sale since Tuesday." And he walked away. So, I asked her to take the two cakes off the purchase. And I walked back to the bin myself. I found the TWO identical cakes with the 50% off sticker intact. And brought them to the register where the clerk rang them up for me. I'm so sick of all the Safeway's I don't care attitude and clerks arbitrary 'I don't give a sh**' attitude. Its not the first time this has happened. They should have just rung the items up as they were ALL the same from the SAME 50% off bin AND identical items. Instead of making me walk back and get TWO that had a sticker!! I'm already ringing up my own purchases MYSELF for NO DISCOUNT. Safeway deliberately has only 1-2 cashiers during rush hour? What's that about? To force customers to scan, bag and pay for their items themselves! The lines at the 1 or 2 personal cashiers are always LONG and the lines at the self-checkout short! Safeway is saving money by not hiring cashiers? Making customers do the work of a cashier! How much do cashiers make anyway? By my calculations I should be getting $2-$5 each visit to the self-checkout for the time I spend ringing up and bagging my own groceries!

This Safeway is usually okay. The girl doing the Safeway curb side shopping is so very rude. She almost hit me twice! She cut me off a couple of times and gave me these nasty looks! She needs to be talked to about how careless she is around her surroundings

Holy illnesses, today, 8/21/23.... The man behind the register handling your food is so violently ill, he is coughing everywhere. I can't believe they would let him work in that condition around food. He needs bed rest. I can't come to places like this. I'll take a higher price.

The pharmacist and the pharmacy technicians are absolutely not there for patient care. Guess what? Don't go into patient care if you don't care for patients. It is very simple. I work in health care and I understand - some people are more difficult than others - but I put on my big girl pants and I care for people - respectfully - but when a patient does EVERYTHING you ask of them and you still say "I cannot help you" it is obvious you don't care. I won't go into details because no one really cares, but PLEASE avoid this pharmacy at all costs!!!!!

When there's no nighttime public restrooms available in a five mile radius thanks to the destructive nature related to the homeless crisis, Safeway fights back and keeps the restrooms open and clean. I am proud to support this Safeway with my business! We can't let evil win. We must set the example, as this Safeway does, of taking back our cities from those that would destroy them.Thank you so much!

The homeless situation is becoming a big problem at this Safeway. There's basically no way to go in or out from that parking lot on the front without being confronted by a person asking for money. Some are polite, some are not. I've definitely become aware of the fact that you don't know what you're going to encounter there. Today, one of my neighbors saw a bottle of urine, fly by his head as he approached the pharmacy counter. It had been thrown by a homeless man he had just passed on the aisle. Many shoppers saw this happen. Why doesn't management take the necessary steps to protect their shoppers and their business.

Thank u Safeway for addressing the parking lot homeless population issue- it is very refreshing to see customer concerns being addressed. I've re-visited this Safeway after driving by and noticing the parking lot doesn't have the loitering it has had in the past. Thank u!The lines are still long and the store appears slightly in disarray, but the clerk told me 2 checkout clerks called in sick along with 2 courtesy clerks - its hard to find reliable help these days, i guess. Sign of the times, finding a place efficient and friendly. Im just grateful for this Safeway addressing the previous homeless concerns.

Can be overpriced but you can't beat a store that has endless selections. Very nice cashiers !

They freeze bakery items. Then when they need more of an item on the shelf, they thaw it out and place it for sale. Aside from that I continued to shop there. Mostly going to self checkout. Sometimes it's late and you can't do that. But I always give everyone one chance to be rude. Bye Safeway. P.S. I'm moving my pharmacy too. It's not a big deal, just my two cents.

Very rude customer service. I returned unopened granola bars one day after buying them since we didn't consume all of it at a work event. They had a bad attitude about it, and acted like I was fleecing them. It took me a full 30 mins to process the returns at customer service as the lady did some mumbo jumbo math with her 1990s calculator to make sure I got the least amount of credit back. In the future, I'll buy at Costco or Trader Joe's -- they'll never give you grief about returns.
