My wife and I were married at the San Mateo Arboretum in June of 2019, it just occurred to me I should post a review! We were very happy with the venue, we had the wedding out in the garden with about 52 people. We used the Pump House to stage things, and had the buffet tables outside. We were able to bring in a catering truck with a pizza oven, and the caterer provided the servers to stage the food and serve the drinks. Our contact helped us with the logistics and was there for the event, when there was an issue with another event in the park blocking the access she quickly worked it out with them and got the path cleared. There are some limitations to work with: no real kitchen for cooking, no dishwashing, and the interior would be cramped for 45 people, so hope for clear weather and bring a mobile caterer. Don't expect to play really loud music or have a big dance party on the grass. But for a small low-key wedding the garden is fantastic, and makes a wonderful backdrop. The price is very affordable, and we were able to book it with 4 months notice, so it was a very good option for us... Highly recommended if it fits your needs!

Love this place. Used to volunteer there. Great place to pick up a few very affordable plants, both outdoor and indoor. The greenhouse is the best part. Open on the weekends usually around 12 PM to 3 PM. Consider becoming a member to get some discounts and attend the annual members party, which is really fun.

They are a full volunteer staff nonprofit organization that propagate plants & sells pthem to the public. Plant proceeds are used to give monthly free garden seminars to community residents, & maintain the Victorian, Rose, Iris & Butterfly-Hummingbird gardens. The Greenhouse/Nursery offers a wide variety of plants at very affordable prices.

I bought a plant here today. The prices are pretty great, and the staff (volunteers?) were very helpful. They close at 2 so I usually miss the plant sale! Was great to see it all today, lots of different types of plants. Will be back to check out the indoor greenhouse area next time!

This has quickly become one of my favorite places to buy plants. The plants are grown are propagated and grown by volunteers during the week. Yelp hours are slightly incorrect: 11-2 Sat/Sunday, but in the winter (Dec-Feb) only 12-2 PM on the weekends. There's a nice collection of outdoor plants, but far less than a regular large nursery. You do also have to kind of know your plants a little since the plants are sold when they are fairly small, so most don't have their distinctive flowers/traits yet. Plants are labeled with instructions, but having your phone handy to google what the plants are actually going to look like is a must for most of us! The plus side is that because they're sold as smaller plants, I've found plants that normally would go for $30+ at a nursery, for just $4.50. The down side is that since they're smaller and less established, if you count on luck and not a green thumb (like me) to grow plants, some of them aren't as hearty. That being said, I have a number of huge beautiful bushes that started off as tiny little things from this shop that I'm very happy with. They also have a greenhouse with indoor plants. Again, small collection compared to a larger nursery, but I am totally in love with this greenhouse because I have found many rare plants here that I've only been able to find online, for like a quarter-half of the usual price. For example, last week I got a trandenscantia for $10, which I have paid double for at other shops. On top of that, the indoor plants normally come with a pot, which could easily be another $10-20 at a normal plant shop/nursery. I am normally squealing to my husband at what an amazing deal it is when I leave the greenhouse. I generally also leave with more than I can carry... The nursery is located in the center of Central Park, by the rose garden, so you do need to walk a bit to any street parking.

I hosted a Celebration of Life in my mother's memory at Kohl Pumphouse. The setting was perfect and Cathy & Kevin helped it all go smoothly.

A beautiful garden and plant nursery inside the park. The volunteers are friendly and helpful. Many of the plants are cultivated by volunteers or donated from others. There is a good selection of vines, basic herbs, shrubs, succulents, common flowering plants and more. They also sell some gardening equipment (pots, gloves, etc.) and gave us information on how to take care of our new plants.
