Had to drive up to this store from SF to exchange an online purchase. 25 miles or so. Got there at 12:20 on a Sunday. (Hours posted on their site said 9a-5p.) Door was locked with a hand-scribbled sign that read "Out to Lunch" -- with the quote marks. Yeah, they shut the store for lunch like a one-man barbershop in a country town in the 1950s. This store is a ton of burning garbage and doesn't make Advance Auto Parts (their owner) look much better.

These people are SNAKES. I purchased a battery online for pick up in store. On the way to pick it up, I thought perhaps I acted too hastily and I should have had the current battery tested before I purchased a new one. I thought, no problem. They have a testing machine at the Carquest store. I'll ask the guy to test it and if the test shows that my battery is still good, I'll just have the guy cancel my order. WRONG! I told the guy what I wanted to do and he told me that under no circumstances would he refund my money. He said it was company policy. At this point I had not even laid eyes on the new battery. It was still on a shelf somewhere in the back of the store. But he refused. He said he didn't care if I left the store with our without the new battery, because he was not going to cancel the purchase either way. Then he lied (again) and said that if I wanted to do a battery test it would take an hour. I cannot believe there are still people who operate this way. Total snake! I was so taken aback, I called Carquest (Advanced Auto) and was told that this "no cancellation" policy he referenced is NOT their policy and I should have been given the opportunity to cancel my order. What a liar! I will never set foot in that store again!

They had the part I needed but don't have the testing equipment to come out to your car to check your battery or alternator

Purchased a rebuilt starter for my SUV a few weeks ago; it's a four hour job to install.........you guessed it, it quit on me. So obviously I'm going to replace it with a new one this time around. Carquest refused a refund or store credit and only offered to exchange it. Yeah right, like I'd put another piece of s*** rebuilt part in my car from them. I'll never go back. Oh, and the rebuilt part was $50 more than a new one, so they're way over priced as well.

Ordered a battery online, picked it up in store. Very easy ordering process. Generally, some of the staff were nice though the note about free battery installation with purchase, as noted on their website, wasn't fulfilled. Was simply told, "We dont do that here." Even after mentioning the note on their website, no offer to help or even acknowledge their own advertising. No other customers were in the store, and all simply watched as I installed in the parking lot. Have been treated far better at other automotive shops.

Purchased a 12 volt battery for my 65 Mustang at this location. They told me that they didn't have the number I asked for but theirs system recommended another battery number. The clerk stated that I could return it for store credit if it didn't fit. Well it didn't fit as it was too large for the battery tray and didn't have lips on the side of the battery for the battery clamp. I called around and fount Toscalito Tires in San Rafael and they had found the number for the original battery, ordered it for me and I purchased it. Took the initial purchase back to Car Quest today and tehy wouldn't give me the store credit, but offered to order the battery that I had already purchased!! Why couldn't they do that for me on my first trip in!!!! I left the damn battery there. I'm sure they'll sell it as new and triple their profit. No such thing as customer service there. Toscalito has earned my future business based on customer service. I did my best to keep this clean for the general public.

I bought a car battery and after 20 days my car didn't stared and the AAA tested the battery life and it was totally old, and ready to replace it. That was very dishonest of them to sell the old battery. Plus they didn't installed it there. I had to make 4 trips to get the battery installed. Batteries are not like some grocery that you can buy, carry, and place it anywhere. In addition, the manager is very disrespectful, and mean. They need to improve everything. And just be CAREFUL because it seems like some people still live in the past where women where less than man. Just because some women don't have idea about cars don't generalize and sell you thinks that aren't working properly.
