I’m honestly heartbroken. I came in asking for soft layers and angles around the face, but left with a blunt cut that took two hours and looks nothing like what I asked for. I had done my research, to use the right words to ask for what I’m looking for and explained everything clearly, but still walked out feeling disappointed and deflated.
A significant amount of length was taken off, which I was initially okay with for the sake of the layered bombshell look I wanted. But because so much was cut, I now don’t have enough length left to go somewhere else to have it reshaped or corrected.
To make things more frustrating, my first appointment was double-booked, so I had to come back on another day. I really wanted to love my hair and the experience, but I ended up crying in my car after the appointment.
With my wedding coming up next year, I’m now scared to do anything else to my hair. This was such an upsetting experience at a time I just wanted to feel excited and confident.

I’ve been seeing Stassi for 2.5 years now and she is hands down the best colorist in San Francisco. From going super blonde for my wedding, to toning things down closer to my natural shade, and now lightening things back up—she nails it every single time. Stassi really listens to what I’m going for, gives helpful feedback on inspo photos, and always makes sure I leave feeling my absolute best. On top of her talent, she’s so much fun to chat with—I genuinely look forward to every appointment. Can’t recommend her enough!

I moved out of California about 3 months ago now and with the benefit of some time to reflect, I realize now what I miss the most: the sunsets at Stinson Beach? The beauty of Marin? The food in SF? The amazing people of NorCal? Nah, what I miss most is getting my haircut by David Karvesales from David James Salon. And it’s not close. David is not only the most talented stylist I’ve ever had, he’s also been the most consistent. He’s cut my hair for the last seven years and I swear that every time I left his salon, I had to send him a text to let him know that he surpassed the last cut he gave me. He did it every single time. Oh, and he’s also the coolest person you’ll ever meet. Unpretentious, kind, generous and so fun to talk to. I should have never moved. One of the biggest mistakes of my life.

I’ve been going to DAVID JAMES. for at least 10 years. I have never walked out of the salon feeling less than amazing. Each time David cuts my hair, I’m consistently blown away by what he can do with a simple reference picture and a short amount of time. I’d give David & his salon 5+ stars if I could. Pictures are before and afters from my most recent cut - David is truly an artist with the scissors! Great person & great salon overall!

I recently had my hair cut by Angie at David James Marin, and I couldn't be happier with the result. The entire experience was fantastic, from the welcoming atmosphere of the salon to the friendly and professional service. The skill and technique displayed by Angie were exceptional. A perfect salon. David is exceptional at what he does, and the vibe is incredibly welcoming and friendly. The secret is out so it can be hard to get an appointment but I truly love this place and would never go anywhere else in Marin.
