A welcoming and convenient Central San Rafael activity center for Seniors for only a $25 yearly membership . A great place to work either alone or with others on the current jigsaw puzzle that is always accessible. Readers should check the ever changing book sale area where hardcovers go for $2 and paperbacks are $1 . The connected JACKSON CAFE is a good deal for lunch and open to public . They also put on special holiday meals throughout the year . CALL for cafe hours and menu of the day. The scheduled monthly activity program is plentiful and access to information on community services is helpful . For those who still drive there's a Whistlestop corner parking lot just across the street from the main entrance.VIVALON also host a Food Bank for seniors every Friday except holidays . CALL for details and how to sign up. Great volunteers to assist with drive up bag , outside line bag pickup or indoor choices .

vivalon Vivalon VIVALONIt used to be called Whistlestop Wheels. But as it evolved and brought in so many wonderful senior programs, it did need a name change to move forward. Don't think because I use the word seniors its for old people. Amazing how wonderful and energetic the community here is.I love this place. It is the best I have seen in many communities and managed by professionally caring individuals. The members (modest fee membership required) love it here. For many it is the only source of social integration available.I borrowed their strategic imperative here. Vivalon's mission is to promote independence, well-being and quality of life for older adults and people living with disabilities in Marin County. Vivalon provides a comprehensive, integrated program of active aging services and activities, including: specialized transportation, nutrition programs, classes and other means of social connection. And they house the famous Jackson Cafe with amazing "Chef Made" affordable meals.I have even taught a class there. It was a CERT inspired course on how seniors can prepare a specialized go bag for emergencies. But there are movies, sing-a-longs, photography, language, and other courses. All discounted to members. If you are house bound, there is transportation to the store, and medical appointments. Senior visitation, and much more. Call and get on the mailing list.I have an ongoing class for seniors to keep me active. Vivalon calls the class "Whistlesizers." And she also has her classes of dynamic movement which are called "Eccentrics," Release, Restore and Rebalance. All led by the fantastic Ms. Elizabeth Lynn. She has loads of advanced certified credentials and always keeps it fun. Wonderful and for all levels of activity. It keeps me limber and active. and includes a very fun round of cardio dance. It was live, but since COVID, it has gone online to ZOOM so I never miss it. Every Tuesday and Thursday at 11 AM with Vivalon.

It's a sad thing to see the biggest n prettiest railroad station turned into an old age pitstop...I can only hope that as soon as money is available that San Rafael can get it's own unique n historic train station back from these folks intent into turning it into some old age club....it's so sad...it's the biggest n best of all train stations ..it's historic n should be back into the hands of the railroad...it's disgraceful that it's historic n colorful career is now turned into Shady Pines...let's get this gem back into our historic past n renovated as many other towns have done w their train stations...it's a disgrace that the biggest town in Marin can't get it's act together n get this gem of architecture back into it's railroad fold....let's put this station back into railroad history before they damage it anymore .....we can do it n believe it eventually will buy it back!!!
