TL; DR: Get the shengjian bao. Don't get anything else.So I've been going mostly to the Fremont place and I've only ordered from the San Ramon place once so when I was visiting Pleasanton I decided to come dine in the place.Compared to the Fremont place this is much larger with fewer crowds.I ordered pretty much what most Shanghainese would've ordered. Service is fairly efficient and good enough even if it's a little short staffed.I think shengjian is more rushed (they didn't keep the shapes when served) but still the best in the Bay Area (unfortunately). The smoked fish is so so and too salty and soggy from the sauce but at least it's better than many other Shanghainese places. So I'd order it only if you really miss it.The eel is not fresh so it's too fishy. The rice cake is so so but decent if you want something different from shengjian to fill you up.

I can’t believe that they add peas, corn kernels, and carrots to Yangzhou fried rice! So not authentic! But soyugamo is good.

We had been eaten at this restaurant several times, also all other three locations. We have a party of six and ordered 14 dishes, business of this restaurant at San Ramon is kind of slow whenever we were there. Three items are very good, sweet osmanthus scented glutinous rice cake, crab roe pork dumplings/xiaolungbao, steamed purple glutinous rice with red bean paste. The rest dishes are ok.

Delicious dumplings and everything else! This is my go to spot for lunch. Prices seem reasonable, too.

Stars: 3.5Came here on a Saturday evening around 5pm for an earlier dinner. Thankfully there were only two other parties because our newborn baby started crying halfway through our meal haha.We got two orders of pork soup dumplings/XLB aka xiao long baos (comes with 8 each) and one order of pan fried soup dumplings (comes with 6). Their XLBs are the best!! The skin is thin but won't break on you. The soup is flavorful. I like to enjoy them with some vinegar too.The pan fried soup dumplings were a bit disappointing. They were deflated? I previously had them at the Fremont location and it was way better there.I love barley tea but it was served lukewarm.I'm not sure if the Fremont location is as busy as it was pre-pandemic but I definitely liked the ambiance of this location better. I would go back just for their XLBs.

My favorite dumpling spot in the Bay area! They have been here for several years and I have never been disappointed. I ordered the pan fried soup dumplings and they are so delicious. It reminds me of my childhood when I ate these. Overall that's pretty much the only thing I come here for. Service is a bit on the slow side but for the most part not huge issue as it takes 15 min to make the dumplings any ways. I like the Shanghai scenes and travel intros playing on the tv when I come here.

Delicious food.On Thanksgiving Day, this store was probably the only one open. We came here for lunch. My family and I have dined at Ukai many times. We always passed by this all the time and said, "We'll try this next time".Well, the next time was this past Thanksgiving Day. I've read that most people raved about their Xiao Lung Bao (XLB) and I was really curious about it. Since there were only three of us, I didn't want to over order. I got the cucumber salad for my mother in law, scallion pancakes for my daughter. I always like Shanghai spare ribs so I ordered that along with Shanghai chow mein and XLB.Their XLB was very good, if not better than Din Tai Fung. My mother in law really enjoyed the soup inside the XLB. Their cucumber salad was good but nothing very special. I can make it at home as well. Their scallion pancakes were very tasty. We liked the spiral layered of the scallions. Even my picky daughter didn't mind the layers of scallions and it was very crispy and smelled amazing.Shanghai chow mein was not bad and nothing to write home about. The Shanghai spareribs were very tasty but also a little tough to eat. I wish it was a little more tender. As we were finishing up our lunch, there was an influx of people coming in for lunch around 12:30 pm. I started noticing that every table ordered the XLB and the pan fried bao. I had wanted to order that too but it would be too much for us. However, I made a note to get that next time we are in town.

The waiter is so rude. I felt like I was offended.I came early today with my family and the waiter said we can picked up any tables. We then go to our favorite table which we pick up every time we come.Somehow one minute later, an elder waiter came and asked us how many people we are and ask us moving to a smaller table. I asked him why. He was shocked that I asked this question. Please note that there have no others customers at this moment. I didn't understand about why this waiter asked us moving to another table. So I told him if you are worrying that your space can't afford so many customers later, we can move there later. Well, the waiter replied me that sure please love to another table if we can't afford more customers later noon. This table is not ordered either.I felt I was really be offended at that moment. I don't think this waiter and restaurant really learn how to respect the customers. Instead they only know how to make the most money with the worst service mind.So I left this restaurant immediately and I promise I will not come to this restaurant again until they learn how to be a waiter.

The food is traditional Shanghai cuisine, with acceptable quality. However, the service left me disappointed, particularly when ordering takeout. Perhaps I had an unfortunate experience, as the person on the phone seemed impatient, rushing me to place my order quickly. They even declined more orders, giving the impression that they don't value takeout orders as much due to lower tips compared to dine-in. I'd suggest the owner or those in charge to consider improving service quality, as it's crucial for the success of small businesses. As an unsatisfied customer, I hope this feedback helps in making positive changes.

The food is not bad. I liked their Fremont store quite a lot. But the San Ramon one was just bad. Food quality was acceptable but not great. They had one server for the entire place. On top of that, the AC was broken. It was at least 85 degrees in there. Won't go back again. Not to mention the bill was almost 200 dollars for 4 adults. A bit overpriced even for San Ramon.

I've been the restaurant in Fremont and I am so glad that they also have a location in San Ramon. The food is super delicious.

I had the worst sweet and sour ribs ever today. As a traditional dish, any Shanghainese restaurant should be able to make it perfectly. However, the ribs were dry, tough and lacked the juicy tenderness. Instead of being properly prepared (stew with sugar and vinegar), they were deep-fried and covered in sauce. I even detected an unpleasant taste of the meat. This reflects poorly on the chef. I wouldn't be returning.

my go to xiao long bao place - i’ve tried soup dumplings all over the bay area and the taste cannot be beat! and for a great price. pan fried dumplings are also amazing. all the other shanghainese dishes are very authentic (as someone who has lived in shanghai for multiple years!)

Best xiaolongbao (XLB) soup dumplings in the bay area! I'm saying this as someone who has ordered XLB in over 10 restaurants around the bay. Competitive with dumpling home in San Francisco for quality but much better value. Try the spicy ones for something more unique!

We love the food at the Fremont location and happened to stumble upon this sister restaurant, so we decided to try it.Service: Friendly and prompt. Not as crowded as the Fremont location.Ambiance: Layout of the restaurant is better and larger. But older.Food: Xiao Long Bao - (4/5)Pan Fried Pork Dumplings (5/5)
