Rooms were no big deal other than it had a wood stove. Never could get a fire in it. Very slow room service. Lots of electrial outlets as well ax USB charging ports. TV reception was terrible with no guide available. I was told it was online, but it wasn't.Rooms: Standard motel rooms. Not large with bad TV reception. Would it be too much to ask for a TV I could cast to?

For the money, you can't beat it. Two pools, a hot tub and extensive oceanfront grounds which include communal firepits, oversized chess boards and cornhole sets. Beach access is a casual stroll from any room, with excellent dining options not much further off.

I guess reading other reviews I am not the only person this has happened to but when i walked into the lobby i waited a good 3 minutes until someone welcomed me and my family while there was 2 people doing something behind the desk. Then when I was finally helped and the people behind the desk were very rude and impolite to my family. The view is great and the stay is great but the service was not great at all

Best location. Access to beach area, lawns leading to beach had games to play and fire place. Cafe breakfast was delicious, fluffy soft stCk of pancakes. Rooms were old than i had anticipated from the pictures. Parking was good, courteous staff. Only 5 mins away from Hearst castle.

We stayed at the Moonstone in Cambria for a day, since we arrived early & were unable to check in to our reservation with the Cavalier in San Simeon a day early (no vacancy). Well, I truly wish we had stayed at our first stop all together. If we didn't already have reservations I would have reconsidered. Our room smelled like a musty ash tray. Just TERRIBLE! We noticed the front window & bath were open a crack when we arrived. I'm assuming the previous guests couldn't handle the smell either. The overall appearance of the place is a bit dingey & outdated, but the smell was the major issue. It made the entire place feel gross. I will also say, the location isn't worth all the hype. Cambria's 5 minutes away and has much better restaurants & shops, all within walking distance. Our first hotel in Cambria was across the street versus oceanfront, but still had a better view & convenient walk to the beach. Moonstone's continental breakfast was also great & the room was absolutely amazing, all at a less expensive price than the Cavalier. I would highly recommend checking out other places in the area. We won't be staying here again.

So very disappointed. Only arrived 30 mins ago. My partner and I walked into reception, both desk reps didn't even bother to look up and say hello or welcome, continued working on whatever was more important than welcoming a guest. I, in fact, welcomed myself at which point they actually looked up and informed me they would be helping me shortly. I had requested an ocean view room to be told that I didn't?? We are currently in room 225, facing the pool and other building. The room is very clean and well furnished however quite dark. Unfortunately, the switch on the standard lamp is broken and we can't turn it on. I'm actually visiting from the UK and my stay here and the Hearst Castle tour is the last 2 days of my trip. Really sorry it had to end this way, driven from Vancouver, BC, to Palm Springs and had nothing but exceptional customer service. This is such a special place. The surroundings are breathtaking and the resort location couldn't be better. I'm so sorry to leave this review, but feel it is warranted.Noteworthy details: Beautiful surroundings, close to Hearst Castle.

I usually choose a large hotel chain to stay at but from advertising I received from Cavalier Oceanfront Resort, thought I’d give them a try. Upgraded to oceanfront patio view and a fireplace, and loved it. Staff very helpful, and only thing we lacked was a microwave in the room. But little details like 3 fire pits that are lit at sundown, towels to wipe morning mist off windshields, thick towels in your room, and hotel mini bar containing all your needs at at a reasonable price. That’s some of the little details I truly appreciated we enjoyed. So glad we stayed here

PCF was closed at Big Sur so by the time we back tracked it had gotten dark and we needed somewhere to stay. Found this awesome place to stay. Beach front, rooms were warm and cozy. Fire place included. Quiet with great staff. We would absolutely come back to stay again.

Rooms were a bit dated and dingy but staff and service were all excellent. Grounds are gorgeous...even in the storm we were having while visiting. Loved it!

We asked for the best view repeatedly, and while we got a decent view, it was clear to us that after arriving at our room, there were better views that weren't as obstructed by a building. The front desk said they were understaffed, but other than her being a little flustered by just a few people being at the front desk at the same time, the staff seemed to do a great job. I never would have assumed they were understaffed. The pool and hot tub are small, but we saw them test the water! The restaurant was decent. The fires on the edge of the beach the staff lit were a pleasant surprise! And the yard games were a nice touch. Walking on the beach was great.Rooms: The fireplace in ours was unique. Great balcony for drinking tea while watching the waves. The robes in room were nice.Safety: Very small town and had the vibe of no worries.Food & drinks: The restaurant was fine. Has gluten-free options.
