I was getting ready to retire to Pismo Beach, so figured I'd sell my furniture and buy all new up here - why pay to move old stuff I'm getting rid of, right? THEN I wandered into the local auction house a few days from the move with my rabid penchant for MCM furniture. There, I scored a bitchin' three piece sectional that, while sturdy and well built, was in desperate need of reupholstering. During the same auction, I also landed a pristine Knoll Saarinen Table and 4 tulip chairs that simply needed new covers for the seat pads. I dropped the sectional and chair pads at Chan's, chose some amazing, nubby period style fabric (which Mr. & Mrs. Chan gave me a screaming deal on) and waited a few weeks for them to work their magic. Now, you may notice this is the first review for Chan's Upholstery - that's because it's a hidden gem I've discovered many high end designers in Orange County use on the regular. As such, their advertising is mainly word of mouth, and they are kept VERY busy. Why? Because they do meticulous work, have a wonderful selection of fabric and materials to choose from, and while they're not the cheapest, their pricing is always fair - and the best part? They're ALL perfectionists who take great pride in the work they produce. I should back up here - I did shop the same piece around to 4 other upholsterers, but it was a no-brainer: Chan's is a family owned business; husband, wife and daughter work together to create your vision in their immaculate shop (I was appalled at the filthy competitor's work spaces and didn't want my furniture dragged thru their mess), and the they're so friendly and helpful I wanted to pinch myself - their customer service is second to none. Four week's later, my items were ready. I drove down from Pismo and marveled at my "new" furniture! I'd requested extra firm foam in the couch so it will hold it's clean lines and they delivered on that, as well as replicating every.single.detail of the original upholstery to ensure the piece maintained it's MCM integrity. I'm sharing some before and after photos, and will update once we're done painting the house and staging appropriately - but for now, I think you can see what a beautiful job Chan's did. I'm so impressed, I'm sending the pad covers for my vintage Knoll Barcelona chair down so they can recreate new, period authentic covers. Chan's is AMAZING.
