The absolute worst customer service experience I’ve ever had. Tried to extend a rental for another day online and it more than doubled the price for changing the 4 day rental to 5. Tried to then call and speak to someone to extend the rental to 5 and they said they couldn’t tell me what the new rate would be until I called sometime during my rental. Asked to speak with a supervisor who then admitted that they did know the rate and it would in fact be more than double the rate. Totally trying to trick the renter into falling into what would have been $450 for a single day! Had to swallow the $50 cancellation. Never again with Avis. Found a better rate with the company at the counter literally next to Avis’ counter. Go to a company that won’t trick you.

My biggest problem with Avis is that they did not have the minivan that I specifically reserved and CONFIRMED three times prior to arrival. I was there to move my mother who is handicapped and I really needed a minivan for extra accessibility to get her in and out of the car. I also needed a lot of room in the back to move her things.The GMC Terrain was substituted at pick up. It had much less room and was not as easy for her to get in & out or stow her wheelchair.The rental lot has been moved a LONG way from the terminal due to construction. No one was available to take me to the lot for 30 minutes, so I had to struggle quite a long way with my luggage. I have mobility issues and use a cane.You finally get to a car lot of about 200 cars. There was NO ONE there to help me find the car. The counter staff inside the terminal was not able to even tell me which parking spot my rental was in. I just had to wander around through the cars, dragging my suitcase, pressing the button on the remote, hoping that the car I was assigned honked back.This was just a miserable experience.

Why do I bother reserving a specific type of car with Avis? They never have what I very specifically reserved available. There is absolutely ZERO help to find your car in their lot. You are sent out to a car lot of about 200 cars. You just have to wander around through the cars, dragging your suitcase, pressing the button on your remote, hoping that the car you are assigned will honk back at you. Miserable experience.

I came to this location to exchange an EV car I got from another location when it wasn’t driving correctly. I wasn’t sure how much of a hassle it would be to swap cars and was a little stressed going in. There was a line of about 12 people ahead of me, and only one guy working at the time. It moved fast, but the one thing I noticed was the guy assigning vehicles was working efficiently. He was also treating each customer with care and patience. There was a woman ahead of me with a three-year-old in a stroller and two teenagers and I heard him upgrade them to a nicer vehicle, and was kind in talking to the toddler.After waiting a bit another woman came out to help the line move faster. Both attendants showed exemplary customer service (so much so it prompted me to write this review)and were very attentive to each of the customers. I was able to easily swap cars and was placed in one I felt far more comfortable in. I really hope the attendants working this evening (around 5pm 3/8/24) can be recognized for how good of a service they provided. I couldn’t do their job so I was very appreciative that they were able to help me out.

Be very careful renting with Avis in Santa Barbara. 2nd time I have rented and was charge a $16.90 fuel charge and the car was filled up. The car had major damage, windshield and was filthy.

Had a horrible experience this morning with the employee Seth. Was very rude and at one point he threw keys down on the desk and stomped off, he raised his voice at me multiple times and even accused me of setting a bad example in front of my kids (I was holding my baby at the time)The rental car return parking lot caused us to miss our flight. Once we got back in our car we were unable to exit the parking lot due to the chaos. Avis had two cars that needed to be moved in order for us to do so. I went to ask if they could move them and was met with an extremely rude response that turned into all of this.

Received vehicle with outside paint damage and generally dirty (appeared to not have been washed prior). Inside slight smoke smell. Agents did not take me serious to put down these complaints, just gave me their slip after me mentioning AT LEAST TWICE that I had wrongly been charged cleaning fees of $150 by Avis for such things in the past. General attitude of counter personnel was ignorant. I wish Avis would take getting 2nd chances more seriously, I’m trending away from this poor experience. Also, have been charged fuel refill fee of ~$8 despite having filled up just before drop-off. Wondering how the very specific fuel level was assessed. Avis appears to sneak up on customers with all kinds of attempts to charge extra, is that what you really accept to be standing for in they eyes of your customers?

Predatory business and bad attitude at the desk! Rented Tesla 3, they blocked the battery charge at 80% and charge you $40 if you bring the car back below 78% plus they tried to charge me an extra $40 for 15 min after the due hour knowing there was a crane blocking the parking lot for 20 minutes…Lady at the desk full of attitude tells me she doesn’t care…. Really? What’s new …Agreement #: 626512084

Was charged for two full days after rental was returned. I am sure I can get this refunded, but it will mean calling an 800 number during my working hours, waiting on hold, and then hoping the person will actually issue a refund. I'll just expense it as is and see what my company does. They normally love to pay for services we don't actually receive.

Very negative experience here.I had to change my flight from mid-day to the evening. Called Avis to let them know, they told me that there was a way for me to get the car after people left.Then they called me about 2-3 hours before my flight, once it was way too late for me to change anything, to let me know that for whatever reason, nope, they couldn't let me have the car. So, yay, expensive late-night Lyft ride.And then when I returned the car, they were just plain rude.

It was unusually busy, I guess. The man at the counter looked ruffled and agitated, obviously trying to keep himself composed. The customers didn't seem to be upset at all, so maybe it was just him. I wouldn't be able to get a car for about an hour. It's ok. I can hang. When I went to check back a gal named Tamina was still working the counter. She was calm, composed, friendly, and, even tho it was still a time before I was able to get a car, it was fine.She and I both agree that there needs to be a coffee bar or something like that on the ground floor the airport!

Don't fall for their scam!I said I didn't want insurance coverage. they added it anyways and I initialed and signed without looking at the fine print. I was surprised when the charge upon returning was $50 more then expected. make sure you look at and read the contract before signing so you don't fall for this scam!
