This place has really gone downhill. One major issue for me is that after a certain time there is no one at the front gate!!! ANYONE CAN COME IN AND OUT AT NIGHT!! Which is really scary because you never know who can come in or even kidnap someone. I felt really unsafeSafety: Didn't feel safe at night!! No one is there to watch the gates and didn't see any rangers at night.

Great place to do camping year around. The Yurts are aging and it shows. Some of the roll up windows cannot be put in place as they do not have the strings attached anymore. However, what a place! Great view and great people. There are plenty of rest areas in the campground - both temporary and structured. There is a store with most supplies and also a small cafe for eating, but why buy when you can bbq? I had no luck with fishing from the shore - tried for almost 3 h, no bites. Most likely you'll be lucky if you take a boat and go towards the middle.Safety: Very safe area. Most people are campers.Walkability: Very walkable.

This is pretty much self serve. Went camping. Rented a spot and pitched a tent. Brought everything up with us. There are restrooms and showers available. Showers take quarters but it’s not expensive. The view is amazing when you go see the water from the edge.Nearby activities: Their is a swimming pool. This time around, because of the heat advisory, the entrance was free. They have 2 separate pools. One is a 5ft pool and the other is an 8ft pool. Plenty of chairs around for people to seat and leave their stuff.

It's a dog friendly big recreation area! We went biking there with my dog, and there are many outdoor activities like camping, hiking, boating and fishing. There are nice RV campgrounds and cabins, too! But avoid the weekends and holidays if you can, too crowded.

Cachuma is a beautiful place, especially with the lake being full. Camping, biking, boating, disc golf, fishing, and hiking are just some of the activities. Not forgetting the museum. Experience it!

Not at all what we expected. You can't go swimming in the lake. It's dry as hell. There is a market and items are priced at 100%. $27 for a 12 pack of beer. I would compare camping here to camping at park in the valley. The only nice things were the night sky and the moon setting on the lake. I would not recommend camping here unless you have no business doing actual real camping. Good for families with small children who aren't actually trying to camp.

I just came back from camping over the weekend. The campsite is large with plenty of spots and places to choose from if you reserve in advance. I also loved the star watching party that they had in the evening. What I don't like is that because it's so big, it's really loud, esp at night. People are esp rowdy, and there's unclear dividers for spaces, which means that someone can park their vehicle in the middle, where it intrudes on your space. I also didn't like that there are fox tails everywhere, which get stuck to your clothes and your pets fur/foot pads. The walking areas are overgrown and full of weeds. There were also dogs left unleashed, and the bathrooms are packed with people and dirty (I had the displeasure of seeing an entire family partially naked in the bathroom/shower area). I really want to like this place, but this time around did it. Just trashy all around, and not for me. :(

Cachuma lake is awesome ? and with recent large winter rain fall, water level is amazingly really great. Wild animal life is good. Make sure to plan your trip well in advance, it will get full quick. Great place for a family gathering. Good times

Great kayak adventure in the lake! We kayaked for 2hrs and went into a cove which was beautiful. Waves started out calm but as you venture out, they get very choppy. Didn't see any wildlife besides some birds. Customer service just wasn't the best, they didn't know what boats were in stock so we were told we would be put on a waitlist, waited then called again and they said they had one in stock just didn't check. Kayaks are very limited,no reservation, first come first serve. The staff charged us the wrong rate,we had to correct them by showing the chart. No dry bags either. Good rates though.

We drove a rental car from where our RV currently is and might have stayed here if we had been aware of the place. It's beautiful! Day Use is $10. There are many full hookup ($55 a night) and dry camp sites ($35 a night) some of the later at the waters edge. Most of the full hookup sites will close for a year starting September 2023. We were told over the 4th holiday they were full. There is a gas station though they were out of fuel, a general store (includes toys and beer), a restaurant that is closed Wednesdays and a bait shop that looked respectable. We were told boats rent at $150 a day which seems high. If they are crowded the shore line is probably going to be tight.

Bottom Line: A great place to camp and hang out for a few days, but they have a long way to goI have camped at Cachuma a few times over the years but I recently spent two days there over the July 4 weekend. I just lay it down with Pros and ConsPros: - This place is massive with hundreds of camp sites so even with other places filling up, Cachuma usually has space- there are lots of trees and most of the spots have shade!- the lake is beautiful and there are lots of great views everywhere- if you live close to SB like we do, it's only about 30 mins away so if your kid pukes all inside your tent you can just drive home in case of emergency (dont ask me how I know)- there's lots to do and see- full kid playground- boat launch and boat rentalsCons: - This place is massive with hundreds of camp sites so there are hundreds of cars and people around, all the time- when we were there, the state of that bathroom was atrocious. No soap, paper all over the floor- mountains of trash at each dumpster- the "quiet time" is NOT enforced. Was kept up until after midnight by generators Over all this place is pretty great. They have a store, a lake, a theater, lots of camping and lots of space but because the place is so big, there are absolutely some maintenance issues. Especially on a holiday weekend, you would imagine they would have someone doing an extra sweep of the park seeing as it was completely sold out. It's worth checking out for sure! Since the lake filled up, it is beautiful up there

Awesome place to camp solo, with family or friends, with a group, RV or camper. Great view of the lake. Hot showers and water available. Store, gas and bar and grill close by. Fishing or canoeing but no swimming. Pool and laundry available.

Perfect cool breeze! I wonder what it is like in July! This is a huge campground, but each camp has a lot of space. I had a whole area to myself midweek. The staff is excellent - friendly and courteous. I can't to come back - it is a great place to set up camp and then explore the coast (30 mins away), or the incredibly quaint towns of Solvang and Los Olivos, or hike some of the local trails.
