I have had hip pain for years that prevents me from getting a good nights sleep. I read the negative reviews here but decided to talk to Peter anyway and see for myself. Best decision I ever made. He could have sold me a 2-3,000 mattress but said he had one in the back that was a misorder or something and I could have it for much less. He listened to my problem. Showed me all the options. Then told me I could try this and if it did not solve my problem I could return it if I used a full zipper cover over it. The night before I had a painful horrible night sleep. Peter went out of his way to deliver the mattress on a Sunday night at 7 PM so I would not have another bad night. That night I slept on the new mattress and for the first tome in years I had ZERO hip pain and slept like a baby. The next day I felt like a new man. This was literally a life changer for me. I can't thank Peter enough. Read all the reviews you want but I decided to make my own decision and I am glad I did. Very appreciative!

The owner of this store operates this store in bad faith.He professes how he's a local and how he tries to get his customers a great deal, but then refuses to show the prices of the goods and his so called discounts. I'm sure this works fine if you are happy with the product, but in any circumstance where there is a refund, exchange, cancelled delivery, he refuses to use exact math and instead just tries to handshake his way out of it.We experienced an issue where we didn't receive a mattress as it was cancelled, and we had to chase him for months for a refund. Even more, he refuses to process refunds by refunding the payment method. Instead he forces customers to come by so you can pick up a check to take it to your bank. He elaborated that the only reason he does this is to avoid the credit card processing fee. These are all signs of a business owner that is operating behind the scenes to ensure a profitable outcome for himself.Lastly, during one of the occasions when we went to the store to get the refund, we had to wait for the owner to come in to provide the refund. We waited with the manager of the store who told us "I have nothing to do with refunds" which is dumbfounding. This is a furniture store, you sell goods, deliver goods and take care of the financial process for purchasing. Are you saying the manager of a less than 10 person organization can't process a refund? It surely doesn't help that everything is pen and paper, but the refusal to help a customer is astounding. We had to pick and prod just to get him to look at the pile of invoices to find the record of our transaction. At the same time, that employee was saying he couldn't call the owner since the cell signal was bad, and when asked if they had a landline, he said they did, and then he proceeded to not call him. Instead he went in the back room on hold with the cell company for 20, minutes while we were still there waiting. This was after he ate his lunch on the store furniture (that you're buying) also while we waited.This business is arguably fraudulent based on the business practices l've observed.I would never advise another person to do business here.I know that supporting a small local business is good, but there are others in town that deserve the support and this store is not one of them.We asked around town if others had experienced this, and unfortunately we were one of very many.

Stated by other reviewers below, this is a shame of a business. My family's experience was a many months long nightmare with the owner, Peter, and cannot emphasize this enough: stay away from this place.

!!!! CROOKED SCAMMER OF AN OWNER!!! Went to buy an $2,000 mattress and asked him about the return policy on the mattress. The owner Peter told me if I didn't like it I would be able to return it, no problem. So I went ahead and bought it. This was two months ago I'm only able to write this review now after the debacle that is this company has caused me!!!!! I got no money back and a cheap mattress that I'll need to sell to salvage some money on it. A week later I told him the mattress that came was totally different than the one I bought. I had ordered a hybrid bed with partial spring and partial foam. The hand me down cheap mattress i got was NOTHING like this. When I told him this, He turned on me and was completely rude and unhelpful AND NOT remorseful at all! He said there's nothing he can do and that I signed for it and can't return it. Turns out I go to Yelp and this guy has horrible reviews all with the same situations. I should have read before. This guy scams you for mattresses and probably buys cheap ones just to resell for higher price. TOTAL SCAM!!!.

I can't recommend this place. We like to shop where we live, and decided to buy a sleeper sofa and two power recliners from here. Our first hurdle was after 10 weeks of waiting on our couch to arrive, we inquired if there was an issue. Pete told us the builder/supplier didn't have the cloth we picked out and didn't think they could get anymore in. Oopsy. Then, all of a sudden we had our couch delivered a week later with the cloth we'd chosen. Um...? Anyway, the next challenge was one of the recliner's motor was faulty before the warranty ended. To Pete's credit, he did send out one of his guys to look at it after we called him every day for a week. They determined it was indeed non-functioning and was under warranty. The furniture brand (Best Home Furnishings) states that you must contact your point of purchase. We have. SO SO SO many times, both in person and via phone and text. We have brought in copies our purchase paper work and warranty info, pictures of the chair, and pictures of the model numbers. His own staff documented it. I followed up with him after a year of waiting. We were understanding, because...Covid. It has now been over 2 years. We have never heard from him, or from BestHM. I have no idea what the root of this problem is, but there has been no apology, no explanation, and no action. Absolutely no follow through. So we have a $1200 brand new, non-functioning recliner. Consider your choices carefully before making a purchase from this Sleep Shoppe.

DO NOT BUY A MATTRESS HERE!! This guy should be shut down. He did the old bait and switch. I picked out the mattress I wanted and was shipped something completely different. I could tell the difference immediately when I sat on the mattress. Even though it had the same name and same design. I took a picture of the label on the mattress which has the information of what it is made of and layering/padding information. Then went back into the store to confront Peter. Low and behold when I compared the label of the mattress I received to the label of the store model which I really loved it was NOT the same bed not even made out of the same material. When I confronted Peter of this he responded. Ohhh. Well the store model is a few years old and the manufacturer company has just sold to a new owner. I'm not sure what they make the new models of. But this is the same bed. He new dam well and I paid 3,000 for a mattress that is worth $500. Needless to say I'm writing this review a year later and the mattress is sagging and my wife and I are going mattress shopping again only a year later minus $3000. Peter is crook and somebody needs to shut this guy down. I can't believe in our small community he has not been run out of town. Worst sales experience of my life too. He just talked about himself and how he was from the hood in Compton and had to grow up fast and fight his way out of the hood and how all these celebrities buys mattresses from him. Who cares you tool. He's totally full of S?!$&. You can't even get a word in edgewise wise with this guy to ask a question. L*****

Peter got me the pillows I needed right away and gave me an awesome deal! Then when I was desperate for mattress covers he got those to me immediately as well. He also threw in a free pillow! Thank you!

Great customer service and I finally have the custom sofa of my dreams!!! We have a very large living room that required specific measurements. Peter was very patient and knowledgeable in helping us design just the right one to fit our space. Because of the pandemic it took much longer than we had anticipated but in the end it was well worth it!!

I purchased a sleeper which I'm very happy with. Peter, the owner, is a salesman but that's the way he makes $ so I didn't fault him for that. He folded and unfolded several sleepers and seemed cordial and happy to do it. I was undecided about the color so he let me take cushions to look at in my home and when I decided, he had the sofa delivered the same day. The delivery men were careful and polite and Peter sent a couple of decorator pillows gratis. A few weeks later, I decided to add a topper for the mattress and he worked with me on the price. As I said in the beginning, I'm happy and I loved working with a fellow Don! Go Santa Barbara High School!

Just bought a Full Sized Futon on Tuesday, they delivered & installed it on Wednesday. We special ordered the Cover, & that was available on Thursday. Great service all around, I asked a million questions, Jack the salesperson was very informative & confident. Tony the delivery guy was fast & efficient. He was also thoughtful about the space, & respectful by cleaning up all packaging materials when he left. I definitely recommend this place. Great Prices, Free Delivery. Thank you! ?

DO NOT SHOP HERE!! Peter Ostos the owner is a complete CROOK! He will be professional and sweet when he's selling the mattess and then when you recieve it and realize it was NOTHING but pieces of dirty foam glued together and call to complain, his whole attitude changes. He's hostile and rude and will go as far as screaming and hanging up on you! I requested a refund and was told "all sales are final" and there was nothing he would do for me. I was basically scammed out of $1000 dollars! I also did more research to find out the same mattress we were sold was much cheaper somewhere else! Now I am stuck with this glued together POS mattress and my money stolen from this theif! Avoid this place at all costs and I hope one day this place gets SHUT DOWN. I can't believe this guy is able to continue to do business in this town, it's insane!! STAY AWAY!

Continued from previous review.Before we returned the dirty stained cover and glued foam we stopped at a reputable furniture store and spoke with the owner and asked if we could just show him something. We did not tell him the story we just asked his opinion. The truth hurt even worse an we were told to document everything. Peter the owner of the Sleep Shoppe was nasty when we returned with the mattress as I pointed out the stains and he had the nerve to try and tell us it was glue. It had no mattress tag. only marker numbers written on the foam and this is what he wanted to replace a 1600.00 twin mattress with. The whole ordeal is just crazy. I started doing more research and the original mattresses he sold us you can find at walmart or overstock.com for under 300.00. He did however take his dirty foam back which Im sure he will peddle off elsewhere and I told him I wanted the matching mattress we were originally bought to replace the broken one and that it better have a tag and match. That he did do and told us we had to tip the driver 40,00 when he brings it to us. So here I was stuck with a 6500,00 bed which was not a set and even the two controllers to the bed did not match. That should have been when I first should have investigated but when your husband of 31 years is dying this is the last thing you have on your mind. I was just happy so I thought that my husband would finally have a bed he could sit up in and elevate his legs on. Boy was I wrong and how I hurt that I didn't know this for so long and let him suffer on and off for 10 months. We were putting our funds aside to get a good bed for my husband and to be taken advantage of something like this and to be treated so rude is just wrong. When we had the bed brought down to put in our storage we had it in the living room and my cousin noticed something after we took off the mattress protector so we plugged it in and this is when we realized this mattress is not meant to be on a base. It does not fold at the legs but instead folds you in half. This probably exlpains why the mattress my husband was on broke down so fast in the middle. You can purchase a new base like this being as all this bed was is 2 twin beds xl on electric base. This is not a set and as you can see by the invoice picture we were basically raped on the price. We never signed the paper work after it was delivered. They have this down pat. They know who and how to take advantage of people. We went back to the store to ask to see under the cover of the one mattress that I originally layed on that he tried to say was what he sent when we got the dirty foam but he refused and said he didnt have to show us anything and to please leave. My guess he buys up over stock junk and has mastered how to sell it. So yes I now have a 6500.00 bed that will most likely be donated to a shelter as it's still new. I went to Sleep Number and purchased a queen sleep number 8 bed with all the bells and whistles for less than we paid for this crap we were sold. Trust me, Sleep Number bed is everything and more they say they are. And to think that was where we were headed that awful morning. For all the suffering my husband endured in his last year of life I will make sure I do everything I can to share what this man does to people. He will never make this right but I will make sure I share this far and wide. Nobody deserves this. People save to have a good night sleep and the only one sleeping at night is Peter Ostos after he takes your $$ to the bank.

I was in a tight spot- moving into a new house with no furniture at all and needed a bed delivered. Peter took advantage of my desperation and charged me $2,200 for a mattress that generally retails for around $700 (The Maxim Greystone #3). He even said the mattress normally retails for $3,000 and that he had specialized the mattress with "customized features". I confirmed with the company that they do not add custom features. Long story short, Peter scammed me out of about $1500 dollars. I'm putting together a class action suit under the California Unfair Practices Act which prohibits businesses from engaging in unlawful, unfair or fraudulent acts such as this. Thanks!
