There are only 2 Dollar Tree stores that I shop at in Santa Maria and they are as different as night and day. THIS review is for the location in the Spencer’s Center on South Broadway.
First off, the staff are rude and unwilling to answer questions. I made a purchase of items at a cost of $5.00 and change and knowing that there is still a coin shortage, told the clerk that I didn’t need the coins back. I was told by the clerk that they don’t do that (even though the Orcutt store does) and she further explained in a very condescending manner that SHE has worked there for 7 years and has never even had that asked of her. REALLY????
At any rate I made my purchase only to find out that I didn’t need the items anyway and the very next day brought the same exact items back, informed a manager that I had a return to make and was told that the clerk (who had a line of 7 customers already) could do my return. (Notice that I said “return” and not “exchange”).
After 5 minutes of waiting for my turn, this same manager opened up a register and offered to assist the next guest which was me. I brought the unopened items up to the counter with my receipt and asked for a refund. This one told me they only do exchanges and not refunds. I asked her to show me where in the store it says that and she simply said “it’s store policy.” REALLY???
So moral of my story is to NEVER EVER shop at Dollar Tree on S Broadway unless you are the type of person who likes to be treated like crap.
By the way, the Orcutt store is cleaner, has a better selection, they DO have a way to keep the coin that you don’t want and they DO allow returns. I only went to this other store as a means of necessity.

Lady with the glasses who’s cashier at night, has a disgusting attitude. She seems miserable with no manners

Very obvious the only people willing to actually work are the new people. While the cashier was filling balloons for me, 8 people were in line behind me. The manager was at the next register playing with one of the register toys. When one of the people in line ask the manager if he could help them he was annoyed, irritated, and put out and he didn't even try to hide it. I went there the day after that and again they were very busy, longline, one cashier. I asked the cashier if you could call for a second cashier, he did, however no one came up, even though there were two girls in the back talking to each other. Unbelievable

They have a wide variety of merchandise. There is a need for more cleaning at the entrance door and on the floor in general. But the attention was good.

Horrible management and the staff is unfriendly and ghetto! Ever since the GM, Richard left the store has gone down hill!! The store is never stocked and the store looks like a tornado hit it meanwhile the staff is all on there phones even while checking people out. You tell the managers even the store manager and they don't care. My family and I will be shopping from the Dollar tree in Orcutt for now on. Alot of people we know are having the same issues there. Time for the district manager to get involved!

Went to this store and they were closed! They were supposed to be open until 10pm and we got there with 5 minutes to spare. Unless hours are wrong on the internet, they should have been open!

Tell your employees to get off their phones. Yesterday in the later afternoon, I stopped by to grab some snacks after work. There was a young lady with black hair at the register - the only one open - on her cell phone. She messed up the orders of the two ladies ahead of me, putting the items from one into the other's order after removing the separation stick apparently on autopilot since she didn't seem to even notice she'd done it and just kept swiping items. The problem was taking so long for her to try and fix that one of the ladies ended up just handing cash to the other just to get her stuff and be able to leave. She was off her phone for maybe three minutes while I was trying to check out, before getting right back onto it and either texting or playing a game or...I don't know what, but she didn't even notice when my card went through and the reciept printed, she didn't say a word to me or look up from her phone and I ended up just grabbing my receipt from the machine myself and leaving, with a line behind me she didn't even notice. I've seen people on their phones at the Orcutt location too (and there's a really loud guy who is always yelling there, which is part of why I avoid it) but they at least got their jobs done WHILE on the phone, she was completely oblivious to the world. That and the price hikes that they're insisting are totally necessary while raking in record profits in the last year...yeah. No.
