We've been coming here for years. It's my wife's favorite spot for Japanese food in Santa Monica. Sadly, something has changed. We ordered 2 3-piece bento boxes and had some green tea. The lunch price for this was almost $70.00. Overall, the seasonings were diluted. My wife had black cod with miso and the flavor was so slight, bland really. I had tempura with vegetables (one shrimp) and the sauce was so watery I had to add soy sauce to it. Also had the chicken cutlet which was badly overcooked. I couldn't eat it and mentioned it to my server. They asked if I wanted them to make it again and I declined. I just wanted it deleted from my check. My wife heard management talking in Korean about it. They said it would "be better for us to remake it". So after I declined that, the item was not removed from my check. We just paid with no further comments and will not be coming back. Bottom line is it feels like they're cutting corners, raising price, and the food is suffering. Sad to see.

Such delicious food at reasonable prices. The ambiance is also very aesthetic and the service was attentive throughout.

We were very impressed with the ambiance, service, and food at Noma. When you walk by, it's an unassuming restaurant from the street, because you can see what's going on inside. The mystery that awaits beyond the door will transport you to another time; the interior decor is full of quaint Japanese decor and wood finishes that give you a classic vibe, complemented with a light dose of modern jazz and instrumental covers that combines old and new world charm. The chefs are mostly Japanese and they take their role in serving you very seriously. The service was very professional; they never spoke to much or too little, just enough to be effective and allow you to continue your conversation without the niceties that most places have that tend to kill you with kindness. We had the bay scallop, fatty salmon, and tuna sushi which melted in your mouth. The rice was just perfect on all of the pieces, not overly moist, yet firm and unadulterated. The scallops were sweet and fragrant, the salmon tasted better than anything I've had, and the tuna did not taste spongy like many others I've tried. The baked crab roll did not look like much, but all the flavors and real non-imitation crab was something very unique and worth a try. The kumamoto oysters were above average, but topped with house sauce and garnish that added more texture and flavor profile. Most of all the oysters were not ice cold, which I feel masks unsavory flavors at lower end restaurants. Lastly the eel avocado and and salmon avocado rolls seem basic, but this is where they prove how good they are. If they can make something basic into something extravagant, you know they are good. We've had eel avocado and salmon avocado rolls in the past, but this was among the better renditions.

The 2 of us had a variety of the cut rolls (scallop roll, california roll, salmon avocado roll and spicy tuna roll). They were fresh and delicious. The atmosphere was warm and comfortable. We went on a Saturday night and while the wait time for a table was 20 to 45 minutes, the wait to sit at the sushi bar was less than 10 minutes. The staff was friendly and we had great service. The prices were fair and we will be going again!Parking: Very few spots available in front however there is street parking close by.

It's use to be really nice sushi place on Wilshire in Santa Monica. Not anymore, rude and angry hostess manger, ruins whole experience. But sushi still great, thanks to good chefs! I wont be back there or ever recommend to my friends after being their customer for 10 years.

Hostess who is a manager at Noma is psycho rude horror little woman of this place. We just never want to go there since she started working there, after coming to this place for last 10 years. She is just screaming at customers who waiting for their tables. Their employees told us that there is also lots of abuse happening from her towards servers or anybody who works there.

Traditional ambience and a menu with lots to select. Sushi purists should give special attention to the specials on the board behind the sushi bar.

As good as it gets, reminds me of the old sushi nozawa on Laural canyon/ Ventura boulevard. Extremely fresh. Make sure to get the jalapeno hamachi. Also, the spicy tuna roll was

Noma sushi is my favorite Santa Monica sushi spot. Been going here for almost 10 years. The food is good and fun with some classic staples and unique dishes. The service is... less impressive. It usually takes forever to get any service but the wait staff is always nice and pleasant if unattentive.Ambiance is unique for sushi spot in LA. It doesn't try to be LA it feels more authentic.

My friends and I had dinner at this sushi spot, and it was a total win. The sushi was fresh, and they clearly put some effort into making it look good. Plus, the service was excellent as well, making it a solid five-star. Can't wait to go back and do it all over again.

After seeing the reviews and pictures we finally came to check out this place today. Totally shocked when appetizers came, which were served in huge plates with big portion definitely not in Japanese dedicated way. You can taste the difference of sushi rice here compared to other good sushi places. Definitely not good quality of sushi rice, which is a killer for sushi. Two stars for vibe and decoration. Will not come back.
