Bird Rescue Center

Hours: The Bird Rescue Center is a very valuable and totally amazing organization, the only one in Sonoma County dedicated to all species of native wild birds. The small staff and fantastic volunteers work unbelievably hard to rescue, rehabilitate, and release nearly 3,000 birds each year. Their work is done on a shoestring budget but they are sharp and organized. People can take injured native birds in for treatment, and the drop-off process is quick and easy, making it convenient even on a hectic day. The experts provide great care, with birds gaining weight and recovering well. Their work has never been more important. However, after over 40 years, they must leave their current county-owned property, which will be sold and developed. They need several million dollars to build a new site with a bird hospital, offices, a classroom, and outdoor aviaries. They will use every cent wisely and on the birds. The center also educates the public about the birds' importance to ecosystem health and provides lots of information, including how to prevent window strikes. It is a wonderful place, and donations are greatly needed and appreciated.
