This is the worst Safeway in the county. I have felt this way for years, but just assumed I was biased due to how much I love and miss G&G. My visit today confirmed my hatred is warranted. Employees act like customers are a nuisance, and good luck getting service at the hot bar. There are 3/4 employees serving and preparing Chinese food on the left side, but they will not step over to the right by 5 inches to make you a plate of chicken tenders and fries. They tell you you have to get the attention of somebody from the deli to come serve you. This is extremely frustrating, considering the deli employees are busy making sandwiches on the other side of the room. The employees allowed me to stand there for 10 minutes while they served other customers Chinese food less than a foot away from me. I understand this is some sort of stupid corporate rule where people from other departments aren't allowed to touch food that doesn't correspond with their section. But this is ridiculous and extremely rude, as I was standing in front of 4 employees for 10 minutes and none of them told me I needed to get a deli employee, just purposefully ignored me. Their Chinese food is garbage by the way. G&G I miss you so much! No grocery store has ever treated me as well as they did, giving us free reusable bags with our transactions, and handing out Chinese New Years trinkets. Safeway would never do anything like that, because they care more about profit margins than they do customer experience. We really can't even blame the employees at this point, because you know all the stupid stuff they do to customers is all a product of idiotic corporate rules.

This safeway "customer" was walking and talking on a mobile phone throughout the store at around 2:30pm with no mask on. When confronted, they rudely flipped me off, verbally and with the finger as you can see in the photo. Very inappropriate and disappointing. When manager was told in 2020, they didn't do anything about it. Based on that, this time I didn't even try telling Management about it. Sad. Time to shop elsewhere?

Rude and no shopping carts. They have no idea what they are doing. You're better off bringing your own shopping carts. The staff is to lazy to go to the parking lot and get the carts in the parking lot. Just stay away.

Horrible selection, rude security guard. I stopped shopping at Safeway because of this safeway. Don't go.

Always plenty of parking when I go, usually in the am, during the week or on the weekends. Love the bigger aisles. Never too crowded but a little on the cool side not matter what season.

Well staffed, spacious, and by far the best safeway in Santa Rosa. Stopped going to Mendo Ave after I realized there was a 4th st location, and stopped going to 4th st after my first time visiting this one. THIS is the new standard for Safeways.

First time here, Stopped here on our way to the river, and I love their sandwiches! I only went to the deli and everyone was hiding out back. The person who made me a sandwich was a little elderly made the sandwiches slow I felt like she didn't know how to make it. LASTLY I tried to pay at the deli and the guy was rude a** hell the way he gave me back my sandwiches because "he was having trouble at the computer" Smh

I Used to love shopping at this Safeway, and have been here since it was G&G. This is the second time in a week that I've been treated poorly and publicly embarrassed when paying with food stamps. But this time I was threatened with assault by Mariana who was laughing at me and harrassing me all because the deli mid charged a sandwich. The manager witnessed her saying this an tried to stop her but she kep

I just had the best experience with a young lady named Jordan at the deli. She was so good with customer service and so sweet. My sandwich was made so well, and fresh!! Thank you Jordan for your awesome customer service!!

This was the second time in 2 months that on a Friday the $4.99 Fried Chicken was not ready between 3 and 4 p.m. last month they told me it would take 15 minutes and today it be a 10 minute wait. Both times I didn't have time to wait around. They need to space out their cooking a little bitter.

Growing up around the corner I definitely miss the family-owned charm that G&G had. Safeway being the nearest grocery store near me (and also because the Marlow location's parking lot is a mess and they never have enough cashiers) I have continued to shop here. It has definitely become more of a Safeway, no more of their oven baked pork buns, egg foo yung isn't the same, they no longer sell peking duck, but alas that's living in the past. Safeway does have competitive prices when it comes to their meat department, produce, and you cannot beat their $5 Fridays, so cannot complain about that. The produce and meat selection has gotten smaller (having a more Asian background, I was disappointed to learn they no longer carry pork belly.) Staff is generally friendly, though many of them either don't last long or move on (including former G&G employees) while other cashiers seem more interested in taking their time or conversing too much with fellow employees. The place is almost always in a constant state of a remodel somehow, when it is just fine the way it is. Their bakery and floral departments are great, however. Hard working people that are great at their craft. They are still part of the old G&G crew, which is probably why they're still so successful and my go-to if I need anything for a special occasion. There also have been more of an abundance of homeless people around, hanging around the tables out front and other places around the premises. Again growing up here there always were a couple people but never hostile and kept to themselves. But I've personally been yelled at by this new homeless crowd and have witnessed one urinating in the bushes right out front of Safeway. They have a camp or impromptu bike workshop set up sometimes as well. I know Santa Rosa has a homeless problem, but it just makes me feel unsafe when I'm shopping here after work alone at night sometimes. There were a few security guards here and there, but none of them seem to be very effective. However, I will say the latest guard they have as of today has been doing much better, but too bad they don't have someone here besides him on his off days. Ultimately, grocery prices are pretty great especially if you have a Safeway Club Card and aren't super particular about buying brand name foods. $5 Fridays have great deals, but it can get pretty busy (especially around lunch/dinner time) so plan accordingly because the parking lot can get really full. Not a huge variety when it comes meat/produce (your more exotic foods I should say.) Out of convenience I will continue to shop here, but if I were to move would I go out of my way to come here? Probably not.

Really like this location. Very spacious inside for cart maneuver and helpful staff. A self check out would be useful but the lines are never too bad. I prefer coming over other locations. Plenty of parking.

Are you kidding me? Bagging groceries is an entry level position. Is it not common sense to bag raw meat separately? To put delicate items such as eggs and bread on top? On top of that, when you are politely excused from the job in which you're being paid- don't cop an attitude unless you're willing to be re-educated on the basics of your job. Do better management- this is pathetic.
