The pre-screen these days is ridiculous. No wonder so many animals are stuck in shelters. It's the cat and the person whom pick each other. I couldn't even look at an animal to see if it was a fit without a pre-screen.I remember when the shelter first opened it was not set up this way. Some receptionist has no idea on whom may be a fit. ?

Staff were amazing. They were knowledgeable, very helpful, and relatable when it came to caring for animals. They genuinely wanted to see these animals in good homes and it shows. They showed me Coach and I’ve never seen a happier dog. Really nervous at first but they showed me how to properly help him adjust to the home. Coach is as happy as can be!Thank you

i wanted to volunteer here, i emailed several of the contacts i was given and didn't hear a peep back. i guess they don't need volunteers, but you could at least respond to my email with a " thanks but no thanks"

So sad to hear they don't help low income seniors. Only homeless and people on food stamps. Our poor seniors need their pets for love and to ease loneliness. It makes me so sad. Very sad

My experience with the wonderful staff at Humane Society of Sonoma was great . I went for one cat, but then saw my new friend Mia. So I adopted her. Dmitri was great. Gave me a lot of good advice and helped me with the process. Best part, they gave me a bunch of stuff for my kitty and she was free!! She's super happy now she knows she found her forever home

Latest addition to the family came from here last year. Was such an easy fast process and the friendly team and volunteers were top notch. I suppose they know a stable home when they see one. Was online and saw this little milk mustache ball of fur at this location. I noticed an enormous variety of pets and had to come to see. Came in maybe an hour before closing. The aim was to try and get to know all the furry friends and see if one was a good fit - then maybe come back the next day to adopt. Obviously the first thing was to find little milk mustache guy. Very cute but within a few minutes I knew there was probably a better fit somewhere in the building. It is difficult to get to know the different personalities of the pets here. You have to realize that they are in a small area and eager to get out. The real personality comes out maybe 10 hours after they get home. My strategy to get to know the personalities was to observe and do small interactions while they were still in their cages. Small interactions through the bars. I noticed that once they were out - they all had in common this eagerness that covered up other personality traits. A big thank you to the volunteers. The ones who socialize with the animals. Our little guy basically grew up there and without the care and generous time given by the volunteers he would be the little social guy he is today. Zeroed in on our little guy and the adoption process was a breeze. Deep down you know if you have the time for a pet and the space and money for one. Vet bills and everything else can add up. If you aren't ready for a pet - please don't get one. They require years and years of care and time. If your unstable - - then work on getting a place that is a good long term home for the furry ones and save up a nest egg for vet bills or at least plan for medical insurance for them.
