I took my 1972 truck in for an oil leak. 2.5 weeks later picked up truck still leaking oil. Another shop has to redo everything Gary's did. Gary won't refund my money. They broke my vintage mirror & forgot to refill the power steering fluid. They drove my truck & were popping the clutch and grinding gears. DO NOT GO TO THIS SHOP!

Gary’s auto service is a fair, honest shop. Jose at the front desk was able to answer all of my questions about my vehicle and was a great help, and the mechanics worked quickly to resolve my issues. Highly recommend, it’s the only place I’ll take my car.

SO STOKED: Best mechanic ever for any car, including classics! Totally honest, fair, reasonable, and friendly. I am so thankful to Mike at Gary’s Auto for fixing my rebuilt 1971 Ford Maverick. It had been sitting for a while and wouldn’t start, but he got it purring better than ever at no time at all and little cost. Other shops said I needed a full engine rebuild and wouldn’t work on it otherwise, but Mike got it screaming by using his expert mechanic/engine skills to uncover simple issues. Prior to this shop, I couldn’t find anyone who could help, so I’m stoked on finally finding my lifelong mechanic. Mike also takes the time to talk to you and explain everything, so you never feel rushed or overlooked. I was so depressed walking by my broken-down Maverick, and now I am stoked. No leaks—not even a drip. THANK YOU!!!

Gary and his team have been my mechanic for 15 years. He is HONEST, fairly priced, never doing more than your car needs. (As a young adult Gary cared for 3 of our cars, always providing above board service and never unnecessary repairs just to make money)
I highly recommend Gary’s Auto Service.
I have moved to La Jolla and still go to the trouble of bringing my car to him over anywhere else.

Do not go here, Refused to fix my issue 3 straight visits, told me doesn’t have time, then to leave my truck. Also told me, it’s hard to chase noises, your truck is breaking down and making noises because it’s old. Been loyal, but this place is unpredictable. Takes several visits to fix anything, finally quit going there.

I've owned 7 cars. I've run into problems and dealt with mechanics like we all do. I'm SO impressed with Gary. My boyfriend has brought his car a few times, and he's quick and honest and has very fair prices. Today my son took his car in because he thought the brakes were bad. Turns out it's the nature of the type of brakes that are on the jetta to make the noise he was hearing. No charge. I'm sure we will be coming back from chula vista whenever we need a fantastic mechanic!!!!

Gary’s automotive in Santee was recommended to me by Al’s barbershop and that is one of the best recommendations. I’ve had.Garys honest and trustworthy and quick..The first time he replaced the fuel pump which was in my gas tank on my 2001 Chevy van.this time however, it was the radiator and that was under warranty from a different auto repair shop. He understood and got it back put together so I was able to take it over and get the warranty work done.I cannot say enough wonderful things about Garys automotive.Services: Auto maintenance
