Santee Lakes Recreation Preserve is a large 190-acre park and campground that surrounds seven scenic lakes. It offers a variety of amenities for visitors, including 300 full hook-up campsites, two pools, a spa, playgrounds, a bark park, cement cornhole boards, and ten rental cabins—seven on the lakefront and three floating on the water. The park features 26 reservable picnic and event areas, pedal boat rentals, and over five miles of walking trails, making it a popular spot for family outings and community events. The lakes are stocked with seasonal sport fish year-round, and fishing is accessible without a state license, only a permit from the facility. Visitors appreciate the park’s cleanliness and well-maintained grass and bathrooms. It’s seen as a safe place for walking pets and enjoying nature, especially on weekdays. Families have enjoyed picnics, walking, and riding bikes here for decades. However, some concerns have been raised, such as the increasing presence of full-time residents, occasional smoking in camping areas, and a rodent problem that has affected food and belongings in the cabins. Additionally, during busy weekends, the park can get crowded, especially with anglers occupying much of the space, limiting activities like playing catch or tossing a frisbee. Overall, Santee Lakes is considered a beautiful, fun, and versatile outdoor destination with plenty to see and do for all ages.
A nice park and place to fish. There is a campground with RV hook ups plus seven cabins for rent.
