December 2023 by LeKcEy's Corner
Bad information led to hours, gas, and effort wasted. I am a single father that likes to take my girls each year to cut down a Christmas tree. Seems easy enough. Today I called ahead to make sure they were open and available. I asked what time they closed and was advised of 5:30pm or when the sunset. I took off work early and left at 4pm(50 minute drive with traffic). I pull into Davis Ranch at 4:50 and see 2 of the staff at the front getting in their trucks and the place is closed. One comes over and ask if I needed any help and I explained how I had called ahead and was told you all would be open. I had driven almost an hour and took time off work to get here before the time I was told it closed. There was still light and was about 20 minutes from sundown. He told me sorry and there was nothing he could do at all. I even offered to just purchase a precut. I had made the trip and was not wanting to take the kids home empty handed. Zero sympathy at all even with the misinformation given. He turned around and walked off and got in his truck to leave. I have cut down a tree from here many years in the past but this experience was sour and I do not see returning in the future. I get people want to go home but you advised of a time and have that same time posted here but closed almost 40 minutes earlier. Thanks a lot. Drive home was really fun after being turned away.

Produce is not what it used to be. Tomatoes have no flavor. Watermelon was mushy, threw away. Only reason for two stars is the corn. Everything is overpriced. Your local grocery store will easily match quality. Used to love stopping here, no more.

Great, fresh produce but very unorganized lines. There need to be a divider or sign for lines, and they need to block off their aisle behind cashier because first timers will think to go there to get corn lol. We thought people were selecting their corn and wanted to get ours too. Unfortunately, they're the workers and throwing corns to be in a batch, etc. We got there at 1pm and most fruits & vegetables were almost out. It's best to go early. It is pretty far to get produce but we wanted to check the corns out due to recommendations.

Best corn anywhere! Sweet & fresh picked. We got the best & sweetest watermelon here this summer, peaches, nectarines , apricots, plums & lemon cucumbers which are hard to find! Worth the trip!!

Love it! I very rarely just drive by. If it's on my route, then I'm stopping. The corn, vegetables, fresh flowers, local honey and candied nuts are so good. Fresh pies, pumpkins and Christmas Trees. They have it covered. Very clean and friendly. You must check them out!

About $60 for what I think is a Leyland Cypress (?) with net and twine. Enjoyable experience, minus the muddy/wet weather, but did just fine. There were unmarked workers helping to cut trees and transport trees, but because they were unmarked and no way to distinguish, we ended up cutting the tree down ourselves. We got a 7 footer, and it cut relatively easily. About 5-8min work of sawing with their provided saw, and the tree came down nice and simple. There were no large (>6') noble firs for cutting. There was a precut tree area, which did have firs for sale.I will turn next year, maybe a little earlier to see if there is better selection ?. Until then....

We have been coming here for years. Always a nice selection of different types of trees. They have an awesome farmer's fall market. See you next year!!

Davis Ranch has exceptional service and very reasonable prices for produce. I would rate them a 5 in this regard. They also offer some very nice Christmas Trees. I buy one from them every year. They were extremely helpful in helping this senior citizen cut down tree, and transporting to wrapping area. My only suggestion; especially after our very dry summers, is that they offer a tree shaker before wrapping trees. Much unneeded 'clutter' discovered in tree, when placing in home and clean-up.

Always great quality produce. Can get pricey compared to grocery store, but tastes so much better. "You pick" is a great deal and fun with kids.

Good and solid little market with a lovely pumpkin patch to tie everything together. This is a REAL farm, so don't wear anything fancy lol!

Fall fall fall! I love fall! Happy to have a fall birthday since it's like celebrating all season long ehehehe. Anyway, about this ranch. It has a nice little open-air produce shop. Currently there is a bunch of pumpkin varieties for sale (huge boxes of 'em filling up almost half of the whole shop!). There's also a pumpkin patch here but it didn't seem like it was open at the time that I visited (Friday afternoon) as I saw no one walk towards it. Perhaps it's open only on weekends. The even bigger highlight of this place though (and that's not necessarily fall-exclusive) is its corn. I saw shop staff organizing corn that arrived straight from the cornfields here. Got a pre-sorted brown bag of 8 (white corn variety; there are others available as well). Compared to the ones found at grocery stores, the kernels are smaller but they're softer, more sweet, and more flavorful. I got my parents to try a few since they really like corn and I consider them as the better corn connoisseurs (or should I say....."CORNnoisseurs?" Okay I'll see myself out). They thought the same things about the corn as well!No parking fee here. This ranch isn't too far of a drive particularly if you're in Rancho Cordova or on the east side of Elk Grove. Definitely recommend stopping by here especially if you're looking for some pretty good corn!

We have come here now 2 years in a row for their pumpkin patch and will for sure be returning next year. They are just a short drive from Sacramento, never been crowded (unlike so many other popular places), and have some fun and convenient perks. We especially love the tractor ride out to the patch. My kids love it and it's just a nice little ride for all (even the grandparents). There is also a little stand with fruit, veggies, and some homemade-type goods (pies, salsa, coffee cake, corn nuts, etc.) Some of the prices can be a little high, but overall most of the items are reasonably priced. The pumpkins are very reasonably priced. There is a kettle corn stand too. Last year I think there was a food truck, but this year there wasn't one when we went. Bathrooms are port-a-pottys, but reasonably clean. They also have you-cut Xmas trees. You can also opt to just pick up your pumpkins at the stand if you don't want to go out to the patch. And there is a corn maze but we haven't tried that just yet. It's a little pricey, but maybe next year!

My go to place for corn stalks. Best price and you get a lot for what you pay for. Lots of variety for pumpkins too.

Davis ranch also known as slough house has great fresh produce. We got squash and watermelon and of course corn. They have great quality and a great selection. They offer pies and jellies as well as lots of other fresh choices. We go here to buy corn every year. We often will freeze it to have all winter long. We love the selection and great service. I highly recommend a visit.
