Dr Beccari removed a 2 cm mass right under the lower eyelid of my dog. My dog recovered very well in two days, and now two weeks later, there is almost no trace of the surgery. A couple of vets that we consulted with were not willing to perform the surgery because it was too close to the eye. Dr Beccari knew he could do it and he certainly proved it. You can see that the incision is close to the eye and had to be done perfectly so that the eye lid can still close normally. There are not that many vets who can do it all. Often they will refer you to specialists, such as at the UC Davis hospital. But Academy Animal Hospital can do it all.

My parents have been taking their dog there for years. And I think they've liked the veterinary care overall. But when their dog was in horrible pain in her shoulder, they just sent the dog home with my 84-year-old parents and some pain medicine which clearly was not going to work. They took an x-ray and two days later got us the results that she had a fractured shoulder. For a 14 year old dog this was agonizing. We put the dog to sleep the next morning. Had we known how bad the shoulder was, we would've put her down that evening. They need to move a little quicker on their diagnosing of x-rays. It's inexcusable when a dog is in that much pain.

Best vet we've ever had. We've been taking all of our dogs here for the past decade and the care for all of our pets has been phenomenal.

Many moons ago, I started my career with veterinary hospitals at Academy Animal Hospital, I had the honor of working with Danny, Tracey, Drs Beccari and Reinmann. When I was again in need of veterinary care, I went to the doctors and staff I knew and trusted. I am so glad I did! I knew the medicine was top notch, Danny was the best, but I am continually blown away by the personalized care and consideration the entire staff gives me and my pets. Chikka, Maverick, and Flyer (I do have 2 cats, they will be in soon!), all love Beccari and Academy. Quality medicine, quality staff, personalized care, staff that stays for decades... what more could you ask for in a vet practice?

Best care anywhere. Dr Serrano checked in by phone on our chi for months after surgery. That was about 2 years ago. Today he compassionately laid mr slate to rest due to a enlarged heart. Caring honest staff.

We are here visiting and my dog snorted a foxtail. They took her in right away and took excellent care of her. We will use Academy as our San Diego vet from now on.

Great vet. Dr. Beccari has been our guy. Wonderful girls up front, always nice and most important, my pug is living really well. No upsell. Very thoughtful doctors. I've been to another really great vet (RSF Vets) and it was just time to see what else is out there for my queen. My pug is allergic to everything, can eat certain foods, skin problems once in awhile, eye issues, but is easily the hottest pug I've ever seen. I've been with these guys a few months now and can say. A+ *** Don't be in a rush when you come here, I was here for awhile. They don't run on a time per client basis.

BEWARE!!! UP-SELLING IS REAL HERE!! I called three days in advance to make an appointment for my dog's dental cleaning. I was given an estimate over the phone for $200 for a non invasive cleaning and $400 for a surgical procedure. I arrived to have a much different experience. My dog and I visited with Dr. Bakari. I cringe at the thought of him now. He is a veterinarian and a salesman. My dog is in absolute wonderful health, and yet this doctor spent 30 minutes+ discussing everything other than his dental cleaning. Dr. Bakari is very opinionated and more focused on how he can sell procedures and other care rather than the matter at hand. He made my dog feel very uncomfortable which in turn made me feel very uncomfortable. After he pessimistically went on and on about what "generally small dogs experience" if they are not in good health (which my dog is in excellent health) I sternly urged him to please get to the issue for which I brought my dog in for - yes, dental cleaning. John (as he introduced himself) told me he would email me an estimate by the end of the day. WAIT WHAT?! UGH, Ok fine. Email me.... No email. I called this morning and was notified my 7 pound yorkie was going to need two teeth pulled for $1400. NO FREAKIN WAY! I am regretful for ever coming here and cancelling with the other veterinary hospital I had initially made an appointment at. Which by the way is $700 MAX for any and ALL dental issues no matter the situation. If you are curious for a solution ... Kearny Mesa Veterinary Center is AMAZING! No hidden fees. No need to listen to a veterinarian up-sell you. Pure veterinarian care. They are EPIC! Unfortunately, academy veterinary hospital lacks integrity and ethics for animal care. Please take into consideration that bad veterinarians DO exist. Academy Veterinary Hospital has made that clear. I will NEVER bring my dog here again.

Dr. Serrano is one of the best vets I have dealt with. He knew another favorite vet of mine, Dr. Palenscar. I still keep in contact with Dr. Palenscar and when in doubt I call him and yet he always agrees with Dr. Serrano's diagnosis or care for my pets.
