Roaches in room

Updated Review (same day):
Thank you Holiday Inn & Suites Solana Beach!
I wrote my review pre-resolution.
We greatly appreciate how you ultimately resolved the issue this morning and look forward to our next stay with you.
Holiday Inn really screwed up a good spot! I’ve stayed here many times over the last ten years, but the 2025 remodel is a joke! There is no comfortable seating in rooms, the air conditioner from the room above leaks onto my balcony on 2nd floor. The noise from what must be the ice machine upstairs triggers every two-three minutes, humming and vibrating through the ceiling. The bathroom’s sliding barn-style door offers zero ‘noise’ privacy and the light emits throughout the room. The toilet flush is so loud and forceful, it likely wakes the heaviest sleeper.

For this price you're really paying mostly for the location, but you get fewer amenities and worse maintenance than you'd expect at that price.
The fridge didn't work when we arrived, and the maintenance guy said it was likely an issue with the wiring he couldn't resolve easily. The desktop outlets also didn't work. At one point there was a giant puddle in the hallway due to a boiler room issue.
The location is great, as the nearest beach access is just five minutes walk and down some stairs, and it's a half mile from Fletcher Cove, which is one of our favorites in North County. The neighborhood is walkable with a CVS and dining nearby, but it's also a safe neighborhood and I've no noise complaints.
The hotel room also was weirdly lacking in amenities. There was no microwave, no alarm clock, no iron, no good ergonomic desk chair, and no convenient towel rack. Even for a Holiday Inn Express I expected better, after all this same hotel had microwaves before the renovation!
They charge extra for parking even though there's often free public parking nearby on Sierra Ave.
Some of the other reviews mentioned issues finding parking or Internet but I didn't really experience either. The renovation is mostly complete so we didn't experience any noise or closed off areas..
I might stay here again for the great location, but there are other better maintained hotels this close to a good beach that I'd consider instead.

Internet: none. seriously?
Parking: no spots available
Cell phone service: minimal.
Staff: yikes.
Hot tub: cold
Walls: paper thin
Car rental next door running vacuum cleaner literally all day is very distracting
For some reason I saw one of the cleaning ladies naked in the hallway
The rooms are nice but hotel is currently under construction and very loud. Hammering and yelling all day! They asked me to move my truck multiple times . Front desk also asked me to move my truck again after that. Wtf! I’m trying to relax here!! This ain’t it y’all. I canceled & moved to a different hotel

We booked a family suite in January for our April vacation. I called today; 3 days before, to ask about the recent reviews regarding renovations. They told me that they no longer have suites and don't have joining rooms. They couldn't accommodate us and we were forced to cancel our stay. If I hadn't called, we would have showed up, found out and scrambled last minute to find another place to stay. We no longer have a beach hotel because everything is booked up for the area at this short of notice. We did get a refund as per policy, but it still causes unnecessary stress to find alternative accommodations. The staff member that I talked to was very kind and friendly on the phone; so that is a plus for this property.

I had high hopes for this holiday inn. It was close to the beach which my daughters were really looking forward to. Although we were notified of the construction, we didn’t anticipate what we encountered.
The parking area is staging for all construction materials. The elevator is very beat up. Hallway had an odd chemical smell to it. However it was the state of the rooms that did it in for me.
Chipping and peeling paint on almost all walls, carpet looks incredibly dirty. Rust was forming on bathroom surfaces. Cracked caulk in the shower with black something in between.
We unfortunately needed to cancel or room which the staff was very understanding and offered a full refund. So service certainly gets a plus here.

It will be a great place, but on the remodel it left the rooms more undesirable. The first day there wasn't even hot water. But it will get better

This hotel was brutal. We had a getaway for our children. They’re in the middle of a renovation. Which is fine. But their prices don’t justify it. When I checked in I first learned about the construction. They sold it like we won the lottery getting a room that was recently renovated like the new hotel they’ll be launching next year.
Our room was at the end of the hallway. Thank god. But still the only room renovated in the middle of a legit construction site. They have over 50-100 mattresses in the parking garage for storage. It’s a war zone.
But like I said I’d be ok with if I knew ahead of time and more importantly the price reflected it. You don’t pay $200 for this.

I was really surprised, the hotel is currently under renovation and I got already one of the new rooms. And how nice. Beach feeling, vacation time.
Very friendly stuff and a complementary breakfast as usually.
Not far to the beaches and also shopping and a lot of food possibilities are around. It is all in walking distance.
In total a nice place to stay.

Very dirty hotel, the carpet is gross and greasy. Not recommended to stay, it is not regular Holiday Inn standard. Everything in that hotel is too old. I think the Holiday Inn company should get rid of this hotel from the chain.

I was welcomed by a very nice front desk employee, but that's where the good ends. This location is under renovation but that was not mentioned when I booked the room. Half of the third floor was under renovation but no one should stay here until they completely renovate this place. The hallways were worn down, which isn't a huge deal but the room was gross. I'll start with the bathroom. I'm glad this was a one night business trip and not a trip with my family. No way would I stay here if it was. There was mold all over the bathroom, including the bath tub The pull-out couch was covered in a weird latex material, the alarm clock was broken (not a big deal since I used my phone as an alarm clock, but why even have it in there?), carpet was torn and gross, the sink would not drain, the water to the shower could not be shut off completely. I do not recommend this place.

Over-priced, we paid about $230 for 2 queens including a $16 parking fee in November 2014. The hotel may be going through an upgrade, to give them the benefit of the doubt, but hallway carpets were torn & worn, furniture due for replacement, no ambiance, and the breakfast, in my opinion, was terrible. Can’t walk to the beach from what I could tell, we took the car and drove about a mile to public access.
