The Holiday Inn Express at South Lake Tahoe is located right on the busy Lake Tahoe Blvd (CA-50). Some of the best restaurants and shopping places and beaches are all within a 10 min drive from here. So, the location is fantastic.
The only issue with the hotel is that it lacks cleanliness. The elevator floor was so dirty that I was reluctant to put my luggage on the floor. The passage leading to the rooms has a rubber mesh on the floor that collects all the dirt and prevents proper cleaning. The hot tub was foaming due to poor water quality.
The price is high for a small room, but I guess they are charging for the location more than the rooms itself.

Was scheduled to stay there on a busy weekend to see a concert. Wife tested positive at Doctors office, she was told to isolate 5 days. Wife cancelled online morning of our stay. (I bet they booked it). Kathleen won’t even respond to an e-mail that I sent her asking for a future credit. We visit Southlake Tahoe twice every summer, we won’t be staying there any more.

Have a look at the great portion of your visitors. In your breakfast area, why would you have Fox News on, speaking of anti-immigration? The chyron reading if you have a visa or green card, you're not welcome, says Trump.
It's irresponsible to have such politically charged content on display. Is this a passive aggressive message to the tourists? My friends are Bay Area Engineers, immigrants, and it was like being in a redneck bar.

Beware: this Holiday Inn unexpectedly cancelled my reservation at approximately 1:00 p.m. on the day my family was supposed to check in. We had already travelled to Tahoe so this was very inconvenient. They claimed that the system had overbooked the hotel and so there were no rooms available, even though I had booked it well in advance and directly on their website. Furthermore, they were unable to find me an alternate lodging location and were unwilling to cover the difference that I was required to pay. Edit: the pending charge to my credit card for this booking was eventually withdrawn, so I effectively received a refund.

Room smelt like weed the second we walked in, maids stole medication from toiletry bag, asked for a room with 2 beds & got one bed, kids had to stay with family members since they refused to give us 2 beds, bathroom door didn’t lock, office people were extremely rude. If you don’t want a half ass hotel experience do NOT stay here❤️

Noisy but central location, so it's easy to get around. That's the only (somehow) positive thing. The rooms are dark and a strong, disgusting, musty smell hits you in the face when you enter the room (we tried different rooms at different levels, all the same). Old, old furniture and ancient bathroom. Sub-mediocre breakfast. Office workers are clueless and seem to hate it there as well.

You are overpaying for the location at this hotel. Basically Holiday Inn Express bought an old motel and slapped their name on it. The accommodations were subpar to most other ihg hotels we have stayed at.
The parking the first night was terrible. We had to park behind the restaurant next door and walk our suitcases through the beer cans and boxes littered throughout and trash cans flipped all the way over. The toilet was broken, and you had to pre flush just to operate it. Then, day 2 the whole toilet overflowed, we called the front desk who said maintenance was on their way. 1 hour later, they still hadn’t showed and I had to call again to remind them to send someone. We were late to a family reunion waiting for them to show up and fix our flooding bathroom.
The next morning, my husband went to use the bathroom again, and the toilet still wasn’t working right. This is inexcusable for a hotel charging $300/night. When we went to the front desk that morning, they were unapologetic and cold. The manager refused to be bothered to even get out of their office and had the 18yr old kid at the front desk play gate keeper. Even being loyal ihg members their response was “we can’t do anything about it”.
Additionally, the water pressure in the shower was terrible, but hey, there was soap and shampoo in it, so I guess that’s a positive.

Rooms are clean and decent. Check in can be a struggle. Language barriers. The poor review is new to do with the area. Lake Tahoe is the West coast mother of all tourist traps. The hotel is no exception.
Shower drain didn't work, Wi-Fi worked sporadically. Your right next to the Nevada line so the traffic is awful.
Everything has a fee attached to it. Parking, walking, sure setting. To will pay a fee. If they could charge for the oxygen they would.
Drive through, take a few pictures of the lake and keep moving.

The holiday in is a older property, the rooms are ok, they need to mark the small steps up(I tripped the first few times) the location has no vending machine, breakfast was sad, breakfast dining area was very small, the breakfast was cold, they had fried chicken patties as a breakfast meat.
