We were surprised to find a gas station here as we were told that car gas wasn't available anywhere inside the Death Valley.

We didn't get had, but we always stop there to stretch our legs and use the restroom, although there's usually a long line. The little gift shop had cute souvenirs.

This hotel is in the very small settlement of Stovepipe Wells (in fact it is almost the only thing there, apart from the gas station and general store). We visited in July when the daytime temperatures were a record 120°F. The room was simple and functional, with twin queen sized beds, air conditioning, a fridge and bathroom with shower. The room was very warm when we arrived, but cooled to a comfortable (and indeed chilly) temperature when the air conditioning was run for a couple of hours. The water from the “cold” taps in the bathroom was about the temperature of a hot clothes wash and this made brushing your teeth an interesting experience. More seriously, the shower was dangerously hot and one had to dodge in and out of the stream of scalding water to avoid being cooked. The room was generally clean, but there was a tendency to be visited by wildlife including the occasional cockroach and a few crickets, who advertised their presence by singing cheerfully in the middle of the night. The Wi-Fi in the rooms was not working (because of the heat, we were told), but it was available in one room next to reception. The saloon served simple and well prepared meals in the evening and the staff there were friendly and cheerful. The breakfast, in the form of a buffet, was served in the restaurant and was “ok” but nothing special. Overall the hotel is functional, but in no way luxurious. Given the remote location and extreme climate of Death Valley, it might be considered part of the experience, but it is rather expensive for what it is. I would consider the Oasis at Furnace Creek, which had the appearance of more quality, and no doubt higher cost when we visited during the day.

Great way to experience Death Valley. Our room had updated decor and AC kept up with the 110F overnight temps. Flaky Wi-Fi was easy to deal with, allowed time to disconnect. Get the morning buffet! Good selection at a reasonable price. Saloon was satisfying end to the how day. Staff at the Saloon and buffet were excellent. Friendly even while running with few people.

Room and bathroom really small but very cozy and clean. One problem was that the TV didn't work on the first day. I told it to the (very friendly) girl in the lobby and 10 minutes later a handyman already arrived and fixed the problem. Unfortunately the 2nd day the TV didn't work again. So I reported the problem in the lobby again and a little bit later another young guy arrived and fixed the problem very fast. He was very friendly and we had a long smalltalk about music and other themes and he seems to be very patient although in my opinion he had some other work to do. When we checked out 2 days later to my surprise the girl at the lobby gave us a refund about approximately $ 60 for one night because of the trouble with the TV. And that although I haven't mentioned or demanded anything in this direction. That is what I call great customer service!! Only problem at Stovepipe Wells are the prices at the General Store. For example for a pack of white bread they wanted $ 6, 45. Other groceries are very expensive as well. So if you have booked at the Hotel try to carry enough to eat and drink with you! OK – Death Valley is a very remote place and it's a bit difficult to deliver groceries there. At the Toll Road Restaurant we had an all you can eat breakfast buffet and there was a great selection of all the things you need for a good breakfast.

I just returned from Death Valley where I overnighted at this how I can I call it ?? Tooo rustic of a hotel to my taste!!! Rustic; as the advertising proclaim is ok; but rustic meaning so outdated, moldy, and very dusty that I; myself; after driving all day and super tired as i was still had to clean the room, the minute I stepped inside my allergies to dust were in full swing. The location is good enough; just five minutes away from the flatland dunes and only 30 minutes driving to the salt flats. Be aware the rooms are on the small size with super basic amenities. Basic and rustic as I said is ok but can be clean!! That is the not acceptable part of the equation as I had stayed at many hotels with the basics of the basics amenities but the cleanliness overcame everything else. The restaurant on site offers a great menu at affordable prices if not across the street a general store can be found to buy your essentials. Breakfast also not included in the room rate is a good deal to start your day packed with the proper calories to take on the full day of adventures ahead. The pool onsite I was not able to use but the patio with a fireplace is so lovely way much better than staying inside the rooms. Hotel staff is very friendly and attentive, will answer all your questions. If you are only staying overnight is ok, otherwise go somewhere else.

A well worn hotel. Glad it was only one night. Clean but definitely worn and just hanging on. The air conditioner buttons were all worn out though it did work. The bed was not comfortable but worked for one night. We didn’t use the pool but it looked nice.

Perfectly adequate given you are staying in the hottest place on earth in the middle of nowhere. Food was ok in adjacent restaurant, room was relatively clean but dated. Biggest complaint is the a/c needs cleaning- it worked but an unpleasant odor (like old socks) filled the room every time it came on (and yes we checked - it wasn’t us or our shoes :)

Great service, cheapest gas in the valley. Note that they only have 87 octane gas.

Stayed here two nights. Our room reminded me of the moderate rooms at Disney—not quite as nice as the price would suggest they be, but worth it because of the location. Our room had a double and single bed, nice bathroom with a noisy fan, decent lighting, good AC, ceiling fan, windows that opened, small fridge and coffee maker. It was certainly adequate and comfortable, just a little tired. That being said, we loved the location and having gas, restaurants and small store on site. I would happily stay here again though I wouldn’t choose a double bed!

I've been coming here for decades, literally, and have stayed in all sorts of the rooms. I love Death Valley for the hiking - we go to wild places most readers of Tripadvisor have not heard of and would not go - and just want a quiet place to sleep and prepare for the next day's hiking. SPW is much more quiet than Furnace Creek and that suits us. I find that the staff is generally helpful and friendly though it is hit or miss whether they will try to help with any special requests (we like particular rooms). On this trip we were in a room with one of those connecting doors that offered so little sound insulation, you could see light underneath it from the other side. At least you can turn the AC on to constant fan, to drown out the neighbors, but then of course you don't get to appreciate the quiet of the desert. There is wifi and sort of cell service, but both get totally bogged down in the late afternoon and evening - try at 4 am :) The WiFi is good only around the lobby, although there are repeaters all over the place (they have been there for years) and suddenly on our last two days we were getting signal in our distant room. Maybe a change? Front desk had no clue. As others note, sometimes the power goes down - transmission line is above ground from Furnace - so bring a flashlight (or your phone of course). The restaurant is pretty mediocre, though breakfast is a good deal. The "general store" is a souvenir stand with some junk food and empty dairy cases - plenty of soda and beer though. You can buy some food at Furnace. The usual hospitality industry story of the "covid precautions" becoming just "less service" - no lobby coffee, no housekeeping (though you can ask for it, and get a bunch of stuff at the front desk, like coffee and TP). Emphasis on the "mini" for the in room fridge. In short, an adequate place to sleep, but no reason to hang around these grounds during the day.

Do not stay here! I repeat do not stay here! I politely asked for assistance for WiFi connection. “The satellite must be down.” That was a lie. I checked with other guests and confirmed this. It’s nice to know about management in advance before you stay! Since WiFi doesn’t work what other amenities and services are also unavailable? Don’t believe the “amenities” list on trip advisor. This place earns all the negative reviews it receives. They also had a scheduled power shut down at noontime. It was wonderful that they DID NOT post this notice in the morning so guests planning excursions and lunch were impacted! Be forewarned…stay elsewhere!

We looked at the hotel options in Death Valley National Park and chose Stovepipe Wells hotel - with no regrets! Located in a more remote area of the park vs. Furnace Creek, the hotel gives you a great feel of being "in" the Park. With a view of the mountains from our room window, our room was very nice, roomy, and clean. The room was well worth the money vs. the significantly pricier other options for housing. The National Park Ranger station was just steps away from the hotel. The restaurant was part of the hotel complex; there was a very inexpensive, but hearty breakfast buffet offered. The dinners were very tasty and not expensive as well. (We made the mistake of ordering a "dinner salad" with our meal. The salad was so huge that it could have been a meal of itself. The salad contained the most fresh greens and vegetables!). The room is equipped with heat/air conditioner units - so can be comfortable on the cool desert mornings, as well as warmer days. The area around the hotel is so dark that an outstanding star display can be seen after dark there. I am glad to give a very good rating to the hotel and would gladly stay there again!
