Al Forat Market is a small Middle Eastern market selling a small selection of dry packaged, bottled, and frozen items, with a meat counter. However, the highlight and primary reason to visit is for its excellent hot foods, specifically kebabs and grilled items cooked to order for take-out only; there are no tables. The market has little curb appeal and the grocery shelves are largely barren, but the food exceeds expectations. The kabobs are quite reasonably priced, fresh off the grill, juicy, and fresh. Options include beef, chicken, veggie, koobideh, chicken breast pieces, sirloin, and tandoori chicken, all cooked just right and not dry. The flavors are delicious, the portions are generous, and the pricing is very fair, offering excellent quality and value, possibly the most reasonable in the Bay Area. The grilled vegetables are cooked just right. The service is attentive and friendly, though it is a small operation. Orders are take-out only, and calling ahead is essential as preparation takes approximately 20 to 45 minutes. When ordering, specify preferences for meat tenderness and if you want the lavash bread separate. They also sell tempting baklava and Knafeh, with the baklava noted as excellent. Many customers are repeats, finding it definitely worth the money and highly recommend it.
