We had a terrible night at this hotel. With the temperature around 20 degrees the room heater did not work. The hotel clerk had no concern when we brought it to their attention. Luckily we had some military blankets to keep us warm..... terrible experience and cannot believe a hotel in the mountains cant keep a room heater working...

Staff is wonderful and friendly! Been staying at Basecamp for past two years when skiing. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Great places to eat in walking distance.

Positives first: It’s a mid-20th century motor lodge in the center of Tahoe City. So, it’s a motel (you know old school single story travel lodge style building). But refreshed and nicely redecorated in simple tahoe/cabin style decor. Typical “All who wander are not lost” pictures they sell at the local home decor shops, and a big hand drawn style cartoon type map of the lake tahoe region on a big canvas wall hanging. Simple, kitschy vibe. Grocery and pharmacy across the street, walking distance to shops and the lake. Room was clean and quiet.Negatives-Room was COLD. Low temperature outside last night was 20 degrees. Heater was not working…at all. No discernable heat emitted at all settings, speeds, configurations, etc. My wife took a hot shower to try to get warm enough to fall asleep before the chill got through. Didn’t help. No extra blankets or bedding in the room. Just the single blanket on the bed. Fortunately I keep a large wool army blanket in my truck. So I doubled that up on my wife and that helped enough for her to fall asleep at 2:30am. Lesser negative, wifi did not reach the room, cell coverage was actually better. So we survived the night, waking up to a still cold room. We packed up and I checked out. I received a brief “hello” from the person standing behind the monitor at the counter. “Checking out?”“Yes, room 122”“Your all set”So I paused, and since she didn’t inquire at all about how our stay way I politely mentioned,” Oh, the heat in 122 doesn’t work and there are no extra blankets in the room. It was very cold last night. You may want to have that looked at”.The response? An unflinching “Hm.”. That’s was the limit of her interest in our stay. There are many good reviews for this place which I am sure are valid. This was my experience. Definitely not a repeat destination. Good luck!

After a long day of traveling, Michael, who is working at the front desk was more than helpful and was such a friendly face and personality. I found this hotel to be worth the cost, clean, and we thoroughly enjoyed the fire pits and the bar!

Basecamp is a well-maintained, well thought out hotel with everything working well especially that AC heater seems brand new and works at the touch of a button which is important these days because a lot of motel like spots have this loud old heater AC that you can’t control. This one is with the remote control, so love Basecamp.

Made a last minute reservation through Expedia for a 1 night stay at Basecamp Tahoe City. Mike was incredibly helpful getting me checked in, and even went above and beyond to help me sort out an issue with my card payment through Expedia. Honestly, I would recommend just booking straight through Basecamp, instead of 3rd party, especially given how helpful Mike was. The front desk/bar area is super cozy, and the room was great. Will definitely stay here again when I am back in town!

We were able to make a same day reservation last Friday. Great location, friendly staff and perfect accommodations. Walking distance from the lake, restaurants, grocery store etc.The fire pits and s’mores were an added bonus! Will definitely stay here again when in the area.

Basecamp is a cute small hotel. Rooms are small but you have everything you would in a large hotel brand, fridge, soaps, blow dryer & this one has a cooler too! BONUS- they have two fire pit areas to hang out and they have s’more fixin’s!It is right in the heart of all the restaurants, beach & cute stores and great views of the lake. Very kind people here! If you were wanting to stay in South Lake Tahoe, they have one there too!Highly recommend! We recommend eating at Za’s AND Rosie’s it’s .04 miles from Basecamp.

Great kitschy little centrally-located in Tahoe City. This location was a reno from an old motel. Staff was super helpful and friendly. (Special thanks to Michael!) Given their location, Basecamp in Tahoe City would be a great spot for a winter ski trip except there's no hot tub. (Kind of essential for apres). The tiled bathroom floors are also quite cold (necessitating putting down the shower mat. No biggee, but something to be aware of so bring slippers!

Will give this place an easy 5 stars. Place is close to everything, quiet and walking distance to the lake. They have very good coffee too!!! We loved waking up and sipping freshly brewed coffee in the morning. Clean rooms and comfy bed. Would love to come back!

Beds/rooms were clean, but the carpet needs to go! It was vacuumed, but so dirty... stains everywhere on the carpet. The carpet needs to go! I stayed 2 nights, they never came to clean/ or service the room (housekeeping). The guys at the front desk seemed either super tired or very mellow or chill.I did not pick this place, someone else did for me. I would not stay here again. It is pet friendly... but I did not bring my pet.

Checked in with Michael and he was very accommodating with a king room. Also bought beers from him, he was very helpful with restaurant recommendations. Rooms need new carpet. But they are cute for the price. Will def come back. Location is 5 stars!
