My name is Paula Rene Fransen a stylist from John Thomas Salon. Sadly the salon permanently closed on Friday March 26, 2021. I want to thank Tom Shae for giving me the opportunity to become a part of the JTS team. Every person that I worked with was amazing, friendly and supportive. I will cherish my time and memories at the salon. I wish everyone much success and happiness in future endeavors. Stay safe. I can be reached at 805-279-4433.

This review is specific to Paula Rene Franson, not to the salon overall. I was one of Paula's clients up until a year ago. Not anymore. Paula's coloring results on me have often been not what I wanted, but I kept giving her a chance. She did a great job in 2018 that I really loved, but no matter how many times I asked her to do it that way again, she never replicated that color, and instead would pressure me to do low-lights, which I've never wanted. Last year in late February, I asked Paula to color my hair and cut it. She had been my stylist for probably four years at that point. I had just had surgery two days earlier and was tired, quiet and subdued that day. Her color job ended up being very different from what I asked for, even though I had shown her a picture of color she had done on me two years earlier. I wasn't thrilled with the results that day (Feb 2020) but didn't ask her to re-do it. Then when it was time to cut it, she harangued me (again) to cut my very straight, fine hair into layers, which I don't like (and she knows it, and she knows why - layers don't suit my hair type AT ALL). But I gave in after she hassled me, with misplaced trust. She ended up shredding my hair, cutting uneven layers into my very long hair that were only a couple inches from my scalp. I didn't realize how bad this was until the next day, because she blew dry the hair very smooth before I left the salon. Once I realized how bad it was, I knew I'd never go go her again, but I wasn't sure what other course of action to take. Two weeks later, we were on lockdown and I figured she'd already be hurting financially. The salon was closed, open, closed, open... I have wrestled with how to handle this for a year. I don't like to write negative reviews, but my hair is still really messed up, and I've only been getting the bottom trimmed as the shredded hair keeps growing. I came by the salon in February 2020. I showed the owner what she did. He said, yup, the only thing you can do is to keep growing it out. Nothing else. I don't know why she did this to me. I thought we had a better relationship than this. I still tipped her 20 percent, after all, because I cared about her! Jeez, it's not like I was going to ask her to re-color my hair.

I really hate to write a negative review, but I'm pretty disappointed with my cut from Christina. I asked for long layers and wound up with choppy, uneven layers that are shorter in the back than they are in the front and don't blend well at all. It's going to take some time to grow them out in order to fix it unless I want to go shorter, which I really don't. When it was straight and styled I didn't notice, but I like to leave my hair naturally wavy and when I washed it and let it dry the way I normally do, I was slightly horrified by how bad the layering was. She was nice and the salon is well kept, but I wouldn't come back here for another cut.

Sara did my color, cut and blowdry. She didn’t listen to what I said and told me after it was over she colored my hair the way she liked . it’s horrible. Not at all what I wanted. I brought two photos and two hair extensions to be sure she’d match them. Horribly short haircut. Nothing like the photos I brought!! Color is so much darker than hairpiece I brought. Don’t go to her! What a waste of time and money. I shouldn’t have paid her

Saw Paula yesterday for a highlight and cut. My hair was in terrible shape since I hadn't had anything done since before covid. Paula was a miracle worker! She took her time and made sure that she did exactly what I wanted. I am like new!!

John Thomas Salon is great colorist. I got my hair colored while 8 months pregnant and he made me feel comfortable and I'm in love w my hair color. I was referred by my girl friend and I would refer him to anyone who asks me about my hair.

Unfortunately my daughter and I had a terrible experience at John Thomas Salon. We saw Paula. We had never been but decided to give it a try because of some good reviews. My daughter had very long hair and was wanting to cut her hair short to a pixie cut. She had been asking me for a long time so we decided finally to let her do it and she was so excited. She was recommended to us by the girl at the front desk and she said that she would be great for my daughter because I told her I wanted someone that would be patient and make her feel comfortable so it would be a good experience for her. The moment we got there I could see she was rushing and she told me later that she was tired and that she had a client who was waiting to come back. My daughter asked multiple times if she could see her hair before she cut anymore off and she ignored her. I went over and tried to help my daughter and asked if she could please see the back of her hair and she sighed and rolled her eyes and turned my daughter around really fast in the chair and told her very rudely to take the mirror. I also asked if she could please not cut too much off of the top and she got very angry saying that she is a "Master stylist and that she "has been doing hair for 34 years." I told her we trusted her but it's just a big change. I could see my daughter getting really nervous because of how rude and abrasive she was being and because of how much she was cutting off. The look on my 11 year old daughters face changed from excited to upset and scared. We asked her to not cut any more off the top and she said OK as she took another 2 inches off. My daughter also told her she wanted the sides longer and she said ok as she chopped the sides off too. We even brought in a couple pictures of what she wanted so she had a reference but it looks no where close to what she wanted. As she dropped the second comb on the floor she asked me if I just got upset with her for dropping the comb. She asked me that right in front of my daughter which completely inappropriate. She was being very combative. I told her that wasn't the problem but she is rushing and not taking the time to make sure my daughter is ok with her hair while ignoring everything she says. She asked if she could talk to me outside. She started to go on about how she wasn't rushing and I tried to say something and she told me not to interrupt her. She went on and on for a while saying that she had a problem with me because "I was hovering." My daughter is a child! I am assuming she doesn't have kids or if she does, she has never been put in the same situation she put us into with anyone that acted as she did. I told her that I'm an Esthetician and I have worked in salons and I have had my hair cut multiple times. I know what good customer service and professionalism looks like and this isn't it. It's not ok to take out your frustrations on your customers and that I didn't come over until she started treating my daughter that way. We went back in and she asked me if I wanted her to cut anymore off of the front (It was already two inches shorter than it was supposed to be) My daughter said she didn't want her to cut anymore of her hair. She then slammed her scissors and comb down and went and opened the front door without saying a word to us and waited for us to leave. I now need to pay to take her somewhere else to fix it. She was also rubbing the back of my daughters neck with the towel really hard, it was rubbed raw and she was complaining that it really hurt. She told me her stomach hurt too because of how mean she was being to her. What was supposed to be fun turned into a terrible experience. She is not good with kids and has poor customer service skills. I called and talked to the owner who told us to contact her directly because she works independently and to take our concerns up with her or to ask her to fix her hair. I told him there was no way we would go back to her. He said she just moved or she was having a bad day. I understand w

I recently got my hair done by Melissa at this salon. I am new to area and have been looking for a local hair stylist and she did a fantastic job. She took the time to find out what I needed and helped me figure out the right color and highlights that I was looking for. I'm really happy to find a stylist like her in the area. The salon also was clean and had everything up to code even with the Covid restrictions.

Paula did an amazing job on my hair! Her color is great and she is very thorough. I have really long hair and my color is even and perfect. It was 5 months between my colors and she was able to make it all even. Great work!

Loved my haircut from Tari! Goodbye quarantine mess, hello beautiful hair. Tari has great energy and made me feel very comfortable even though I was a little nervous it being my first time at the salon. The owner is really nice too. Plus Kevin Murphy products, couldn't pass trying a new one, will be coming back for more!

My long-time hairstylist is moving, so I have been shopping around and asking friends for referrals. After an unspectacular experience a month ago I decided to try this salon based on Yelp reviews. I was given an appointment with Tari. Wow, he gave me the best haircut I've had in years, wonderful color, and his own moisturizing "cocktail." He was patient as we discussed my color preferences and desired cut, and he gave me quite a bit of information on special treatment options and costs. I hope to have now found my new hair salon home.
