I took my dog in this morning for a cardiology appointment and the staff were amazing! They ensured my girl was healthy and the visit lasted no more than 20 minutes! Highly recommend this vet!

Thank you for saving my sweet girl from a rattlesnake bite. She’s recovered and doing great. The staff administered two bags of anti-venom.

At the end of December 2023, I took my Pomeranian puppy, Yogi, to VSEC in Thousand Oaks. We had to make the drive from the Ventura area since the local emergency vet was fully booked, and it was the holiday season. The reason for our visit was head trauma; Yogi had previously been diagnosed with parvovirus. Despite testing positive for parvo, he was not showing significant symptoms, aside from some glucose issues that required him to be fed every four hours.
We sat in the waiting room for nearly 2 hours before being seen by a doctor. I informed the front desk multiple times that it was an emergency situation, and they continued to see other dogs first who were in less critical condition. Once Yogi was finally evaluated, the doctor informed me that the estimated costs for Yogi's treatment could range from $10,000 to $20,000 in the long run and suggested putting yogi down (Euthanasia) because it was not 100% if he would recover fully. After examining Yogi, the veterinarian explained that it would be very costly to save him, possibly requiring IV treatment for the parvovirus. I clarified that his parvo was under control and that we were primarily concerned about the head trauma. I disagreed with his recommendation and requested further treatment. After going back and forth the vet agreed to keep Yogi overnight on IVs to monitor his glucose levels and head trauma.
The following day, I received a call stating that Yogi was heavily sedated. They mentioned they had to close for the holidays, which I understood, but I felt it necessary to seek further care. Thankfully, I opted to go to Access in woodland hills, where a neurologist was available. They took Yogi in and, at a fraction of the cost, assured me that he would have no lasting issues from the concussion and would recover fully. Yogi has since healed from both the parvovirus and the concussion and is now a happy, healthy dog approaching his first birthday in October.
If I had followed the advice of the veterinarian in Thousand Oaks, I wouldn’t have Yogi with me today. My total cost at VSEC was $2,500 for one night, while the treatment at Access cost only $1,300 and included a neurologist. I highly recommend avoiding VSEC and instead suggest the Horizon location in Ventura or Access in Woodland Hills for emergency services. I am extremely disappointed with the recommendations and overall service at VSEC, and I’m grateful I found a better option for Yogi’s care.

Dr Michael Martinez and Richard, thank you. They were honest, spent some time with us answering questions, did an emergency procedure for my little guy, and were very helpful. Semi pricey, but also upfront about it - it’s an emergency service, so it’s expected.

Crupi and Haley were so helpful and caring for my mini aussie, Ollie, that they completely overshadowed the horrible treatment that i received from a very aggresive female tech with a very small mustache(mark?) that needs to be reminded of her training in customer service and triage. Maria and Dr Norris were excellent. Maria sat with me while I talked about myself for almost an hour and Dr Norris reassured me that my dog will continue to heal fine. would definitely recommend!
Haley, please know that you're the best receptionist in all of veterinary medicine, no, in all of the medicines.

Dr Nakamura is a caring & wonderful cardiologist for our 2 puppies. He is thorough and conscientiously explains what we need to know & do. The staff then follows up with written information detailing what Dr just told us.

Was given a price when we put my daughters cat down and it was higher when we walked out the door. Pretty messed up to hit someone who is grieving with a higher price than they were quoted after making the hardest decision of their life.

Mixed feelings with the place. Grateful they took my cat in late at night when everyone else was filled. My cat Rum (male) had a urine tract blockage . Brought him in and first person to talk to us was a lady with short hair that acted like a guy. She sat across me and my gf legs spread and pretty much began to negotiate a price for my cats treatment. I work in sales and would never treat people like this especially when your pets life’s on the line. They definitely use that tactic against you. We agreed on the “lower” end of 3500 to take him and attempt to flush his blockage out. I felt like my treatment was based on how much I paid. Which is messed up. Everyone else ok the receptionist was the nicest and the reason I went in so quickly thankfully. O and mid negotiations the short haired lady stopped and asked my girlfriend you look familiar have I seen you before. Like hitting on her ?♂️. Annoying but I’m at there mercy at this point. Long story short he needed a PU surgery and here it would be an additional 7k. Thankfully someone there was kind enough to recommend me Topanga Veterinary Clinic and they did the surgery for 3500. I hope you guys work on your customer service skills and not just the $$$ part of it. I would recommend people to come here only and emergency situations and to guickly go else where. Unless funds are unlimited then by all means . Thankfully Rum is still here to live another day

My dog was in a fight with a raccoon recently and we took her to VSEC for emergency treatment. They did a wonderful job with her care and follow up. Only reason for 4 star, rather than 5, was the wait. I guess because it's an ER, everybody gets stuck in the queue for awhile.

If I could give this place more stars I would. My elderly dog was shutting down. We had an appointment for an at home euthanasia scheduled for her the next morning, but she started going down hill throughout the night and we knew it was time, that she was ready and we could no longer wait. The veterinarian who performed the procedure showed me such compassion with my dog in her final moments, and carried her away with so much love and care when she was gone. I am feeling immeasurable pain, but knew I made the right call. Thank you, so very much for putting my mind at ease, and taking care both me and my girl during her final moments.

They have no problem taking thousands of dollars from you until you actually need their help. The very first thing they do is run out with their clipboard and get your credit card. They won’t give you the exact estimate up front. The service was fine on the day of my dog’s surgery. However, when it came to her follow up appointments for her staple removal, they were no help. My dog is very anxious at pet visits and they were previously aware of this. It wasn’t an issue when they received $5,000 on the day of the surgery. But when it came to a free staple removal, they refused my dog. Even though I called ahead of time and they said they will take her in. Very unprofessional and a money hungry company.
