We came in with two big bags of clothes that we couldn't fit in or take with us during our move. The staff was busy at work or attending to other customers clothes, but the owner still took the time to explain the wait time and answered my question about how the selling process worked. 10/10 solid thrift store with a good selection. I got a sick mötley crüe shirt! 👌🙏

I am an Elementary teacher for LAUSD. My entire family shops at Uptown Cheapskate Torrance (Grandma included)
Until last night. An employee basically screamed at me in a demeaning manner to put my purse behind the counter. Now mind you, I’d already been there for over 40 mins and my basket was completely full. My two children (college student & Redondo Union High) had their arms full too.
In the past year no employee has ever asked me nor my family to keep our purse/money behind the desk.
After that rudeness, we didn’t buy anything. The fact that she argued with me over her barking tone was ludicrous.
In the car I asked my children was it something they really wanted bc one rotten monkey doesn’t steal the show. And they did. So I went back in and purchased 2 items under $20- way less than I intended to spend before Christmas.
I also asked the employees name and found out she’s the OWNER!!!
WOW! So I explained how her tone was uncomfortable and felt racist. She gave a condescending smirk and a very fake apology with a chuckle.
The regular employees apology was more sincere than the owners.
I told the rude owner that Everything happens for a reason and she agreed. (5 mins later)
BLESSINGS ALERT!!!!!
Drove one block down to Goodwill. I FOUND EVERYTHING I was looking FOR:) So, I thank the owner of Cheapskate. I found the mini-backpacks purses that were adorable (I was about to buy a not so cute one from cheapskate) and the checkout lady was SUPER NICE!
So, please check out the Goodwill store on Hawthorne. My children found the same items, better prices, better quality and better customer service.
I literally skipped out of the store bc I was so happy. (That feeling when you found some cute stuff for cute prices walk)
Happiest customer because I DID NOT buy from Uptown Cheapskate Torrance.
Getting to the meat and potatoes: Clothes I purchased at Goodwill. I love love mini backpacks that look like purses. Those really help me as a teacher carry around All my trinkets. So, that was my purpose in going to Uptown Cheapskate. I told my children to buy me one of those for my Christmas gift. But, when we went I couldn't find any cute ones. So I settled for a super small version.
Then the owner opened her mouth and I was out the door. The disrespect was too great. While driving I saw Goodwill literally 3 mins away. My children stated to whine, like not another store. (What can I say, I like to shop) lol We went in and BAM! I found so many perfect mini-purses/ backpacks I couldn't choose. So, l'm not upset anymore bo I'm grateful that the owners purpose was to get me to leave so I good find the true treasure. I'm happy like the picture of daughter.
Merry Christmas

Came in with a bag full of clothes, said it would
Be an hour & not even 30 minutes they said they were done. They took the Nikes that were worn once and the coach purse and maybe a pair of pants or shirt and only gave me 40. They tried to put my bag to the side as if I wanted to donate it. They don’t try to look through the clothes at all. Instead they take the more expensive items and give me a bullshit price. I will never be back again. Also I was the only African American in there. All the other women were white and they got good amounts for their clothing.

On Nov. 29, my fiancé and I came to Uptown Cheapskate for the second time. Just like our first visit, we filled up two baskets with clothes so we could sort through what we wanted before checking out. Out of nowhere, an older white lady (who we believe is the manager) approached us and offered to hold our baskets in the back. When we explained we weren’t sure if we wanted everything yet, she claimed we were “dragging the clothes on the floor” — which was completely untrue. Her tone alone made the interaction uncomfortable.
I went to try on some clothes, and while I was in the fitting room, my fiancé overheard a worker reporting how many items I brought in and the manager wanted to make sure I walked out with all of them in my hand. Shortly after, the manager gathered all her staff at the front, whispering, pointing at our baskets, and clearly discussing us. When my fiancé made eye contact with her, she immediately raised her voice and acted like all she was saying was that our items would be up front when we were ready to check out. Right after an employee made a comment like oooh chisme, as if we were some kind of drama or spectacle. The whole thing was unprofessional, disrespectful, and honestly disgusting.
The whole situation felt like we were being singled out and watched as if we were going to steal — which was confusing and offensive, especially since we had shopped here before, filled carts the same way, and paid for everything without any issue.
In the end, we paid for everything we picked out except for one item we chose not to keep. So any suspicion was completely unnecessary and IS profiling. The way the manager and some of the staff behaved was unprofessional, disrespectful, and made us feel uncomfortable and unwelcome.
I hope this location seriously reevaluates how they treat customers, because no one deserves to feel targeted or watched while simply trying to shop.

one of the girls who work there thought I was stealing so she asked for my tote bag… other than that I bought some cute shoes and a brown scarf! I don’t understand why she took my bag in the middle of my shopping though I was there two hours in and she could’ve asked me before when I entered the store that it was policy for no tote bags being allowed…staff(at least her) wasn’t very friendly but some of the others seemed nice. I don’t think I’ll be going again since the policy and tote bags are the only bags I have and will buy so … but yeah definitely unsure why and a little offended as to her assuming I was stealing because I wouldn’t go thrifting just to steal? I mean the stuff’s already cheap as is? all I was doing was helping my sister carry all her stuff so maybe she thought I was stealing it? Even so I was a little offended.

This is the cutest, coolest little store. Killer place to shop, and fun to sell to. I’ve done both several times here and the staff is always kind and professional.
Dangerous though..I want too many things in there, and my resistance is low/:

Every time I go in there I have a good experience at uptown Cheapskate. So I'm just letting you all the people know that if you have unwanted clothes that you don't use anymore or purses our shoes take them there you never know could be a win-win for everybody
