After a mostly very good fifteen years (one inexcusable incident), we are no longer customers and are giving the Safeway pharmacy one star (should give zero). In June they sat on a Rx to get additional approval from doctor after doctor sent in the 'script. Found out that doctor never received request, so Rx was not filled ... and Safeway never informed me -- led me to believe doctor nevver sent Rx to them. I suffered with pain and took many Advil to try to quell the pain. Saw the doctor three weeks later and I asked why he never gave me pain meds, and he said he did. Safeway never followed up with the doctor. Doctor gave me another Rx; this time I was pro-active and asked Safeway where my Rx was. They said they sent it back to get add'l approval (something about controlled med from out of state doctor, which is understandable, BUT they were not going to inform me yet again--so one prescription from a doctor isn't good enough...sometimes). I called my doctor and said to switch my pharmacy to Optum, and I received my Rx two days later. To compound the situation, pharmacist demanded to have my doctor's "treatment plan" for me. I told them "NO!", and that it was a violation of HIPPA. They argued back that it wasn't. No customer service to see here!Fast forward to last week. I saw same doctor again, but he accidentally sent Rx to Safeway. Safeway texted me that Rx was ready, although when I went to pick it up, they refused to provide it, saying they would no longer honor any prescription for me. I called doctor again and reminded him to use Optum. I spoke with Safeway corporate, and they agreed that pharmacy's policy was incorrect. I spoke the next day with pharmacist in charge, and he completely stonewalled me and denied they had arbitrary and capricious policies that some of their employees applied some of the time to some clients. He strongly suggested I should use another pharmacy. Done, as I have already switched to Optum. The obvious problem here is that the Truckee Safeway pharmacy is understaffed with undertrained and incompetent employees who apply different policies to different customers at different times. And they are ill-informed about HIPPA. Simply, they just don't care!

Received a prescription from my doctor and didn’t fill it. Never bothered to let me know that they weren’t going to fill it or why. I was in needless pain for six weeks.

Safeway in Truckee did not fill a prescription and did not call to tell me they were not going to fill it or the reason why, or even if I should follow-up. Two weeks later, I saw the doctor again, and he confirmed that he did, indeed send it. When I complained that they hadn't informed me about this two weeks earlier, they said that they would take it up with the manager, which they did not. I told them that this was not good customer service, and they suggested I take my prescription to another pharmacy, then hung up on me. My doctor is angry, I'm angry. What an insult to me, a 15-year Safeway customer.

I have had nothing but great and quick service here. I left CVS about a year ago because it was unbearable, they could barely fill a prescription they were so short staffed. I have been so happy with Truckee Safeway my prescriptions are always filled on time and the line for pick up is usually less than 5 minutes.

What a terrible experience. Rude, short replies, cutting me off from speaking. The folks working there clearly believe that they can say whatever they want without repercussion. I would never go to that pharmacy. As they stated we have options and should chose another place I if I don't like it. Literally the worst experience I've ever had at a retail location, let alone a Pharmacy. Would love to talk to someone who leads this team!

Nothing but good experiences using this pharmacy. Efficient helpful staff, plus a messaging system that works and is easy to navigate.

Given how busy they are, I'm always impressed with how efficient and helpful they are. They know what they're doing and get it done as quickly as they can.

Honestly so impressed today with the staff, I have utilized the pharmacy for several years and have also tried others locally. I am grateful to have a team like theirs who serve our community.Benjamin is super nice but more so experienced and the Safeway system is “human nice experience kindness etc focused”. They do their best to run a great team and are able to meet the needs of people to their best ability through their experience.

Worst pharmacy experience in my life! Unfortunately it is exactly the same as others have posted. I am a full time resident in Truckee (yes pre COVId!) but have my medical care in SF as I need specialty care for a serious ans life long condition. I've never had a problem with my prescriptions before and suddenly they have refused to refill mine without a bunch of additional NOT legally required info to be added each time by my doctor. I work in this field ans know there is no legal basis for this ans in fact it may violate HIPAA. The pharmacy is also questioning the doctor's medical obligations - really? To add to all of this the staff I used to deal with and were super nice are either gone or I've just been unlucky recently as the woman I've spoken to is super rude, unhelpful and incompetent. Word of advise -stay far away from this place!

Very rude staff. Slow. 30 minutes late giving me a vaccine. Told me 3 times to come back in 15 minutes. What are appointments for? When I complained, they threatened to give my COVID vaccine to someone else. Don’t go here, you will regret it. Many other options in Truckee.

This place is horrible. They seem to to think they can replace their medical judgment with that of your physician, as a result of which, they won't fill a script if they don't like it. I live here. I see a doctor in the Bay Area, because I've been seeing him for 10 years, and don't really need to go through the hassle of finding someone here when I have someone there. So, first point...We're all in the same state. They insisted on calling him first to conform that the script was "real." I can live with that part, which is why I order the refill a week before I need it because the idiots at Safeway will try and screw this up in any way they can. But then when the got him on the phone, they cross examined him on why I live here (what?) and he practices there, then when the last time I saw him was, and "because this is a resort town," (it most definitely is NOT that) they have a policy that they won't fill a prescription if the patient hasn't seen the doctor in the last 90 days. Note: The last 6 times I filled the exact same prescription from the exact same doctor in the exact same place, when we all were in the exact same places, they had no problem with this. This is a new "policy." What? How is the appointment calendar between patient and physician any of their concern? Answer: It isn't. Their ONLY job is to ensure that a written prescription is valid and to FILL IT.

Listen, to grocery shop they are understaffed and you will wait in line for a while to pay. BUT for WINE - they have an incredible selection! Whoever their buyer is - Bravo!!! "Pat" has our taste. We came back several times in 8 days to buy wine because it was better selection than ANY OTHER place in North Lake Tahoe. Better than either Uncorked or Tahoe Safeway. Pros: phenomenal wine selection Cons: understaffed & long lines.
