somehow they have this scheme of combining old rotten oranges to a bag and not even on sale. i noticed that way before in 2011 that there is always one rotten orange in every bag but this time, half of my bag are bruised and they are not from travel mishandling(and if you look closely), they are of different variety than the fresh ones. and if you talk to the manager, they point a finger to the vendor. guess what, all 10 managers/branches have the same answer. the box looks clean and very attractive to customers but the hidden garbage inside those bags are just waiting to be tossed out by people who pay good money to a once reputable store like safeway.

I give this store one star because of the nice little lady in cashiering. She's the only one who has a positive attitude. Otherwise, can you say lazy employees with attitudes? Everyone else purely hates working here. Here's a suggestion - look for another job!!! No one wants your horrible attitudes spilled onto customers. A person in bakery, attitude. A guy in deli, doesn't like being bothered and same with the sandwich and burrito makers. Plus, twice, did they share that they don't have tortillas for burritos. YOU LITERALLY SELL TORTILLAS AT THIS STORE! Get off your lazy f#*}{%'#^#' ing bum and get the tortillas in the aisle. And, today, I requested a breakfast burrito, and of course, no eggs. I have worked in customer service and it can be challenging and customers can be, at times, demanding. However, there are nice customers who become upset at the poor quality of service due to lazy employees with attitudes.

If you have a disability and cannot walk do not come here. They don't have a ride on disabled mobility cart to ride on, go to Lucky's they have a couple mobility carts there. Also there is very little meat selection here, I would go elsewhere

Check your receipt. For the last year or so, the Safeway in Newark has been 'accidentally' double scanning at least one item per trip. I can't say they're doing it intentionally, but that never used to happen at all. Ever. That and some other reasons (pharmacy, EV charging, more) convinced me to switch to Union City Safeway. Things were great for a few months, unless you shopped in the middle of the day, when they only have one checkout lane open, and it's a 15 Items Or Less lane. When I have a cart full of groceries, what then? But the dreaded 'oops' double scan just happened here as well. On January 8, 'Joyce' scanned 4 bagged salads when I only bought 3. That's an extra 4 bucks for the store. I'm so generous. Does Joyce get a pat on the back for that, Safeway?

I went to this store today and I got a few items I accidentally clicked the wrong item at self check out and this lady named Jolene has nerve to accuse me of stealing the cantolope when one i accidentally added by mistake and there was no cantolope in sight her name tag said she was the front end manager I work for the company and the front end manager is not supposed to be in self checkout there is supposed to be a clerk there and on Sunday night I went there and I was being watched by the closing manager I will never shop in this store ever again I will just go there to get my prescriptions and that is it

I normally go to the Newark store but decided to come here. Should have stuck to our normal routine. My son and I were doing some grocery shopping for my elderly parents, my mom has been very ill just started dialysis so we are home during the day helping out at their house. We came to shop late in the evening to avoid any people. My son was bored and so he kept himself busy as i shopped. Him being an 11 year old BOY was tossing his baseball cap around an accidentally threw it too high and it landed on top of the freezer section. My son wanted to use our shopping cart to stand on to try and get it but i told him no let's see if someone can help us. A older Filipino man came out from the back pulling a crate of merchandise, i apologized and politely asked if he or anyone else would be able to help get my son's hat. He said "what?" So i repeated what i said and he says in a very annoyed tone "why did he do that?" And the. Turned around and went straight to the back. After a few minutes he pulls one of those collapsable ladders and opens it up and pretty much throws it towards is and says "YOU DO IT!!! I'M NOT GOING TO BE RESPONSIBLE!" I was so taken back at his aggression. I get it , you're annoyed. Trust me, my kid got an earful but to behave that way after i politely asked and even apologized for me, is unexceptable. Our grocery cart completely FULL and for about 2 min i thought about walking out, but then i would have been petty like him. As i checked out, my cashier was the night supervisor and i asked her for the guys name she said she knew who i was talking about but couldn't remember his name and then told me with the type of complaint i had we would need to call back tomorrow. She apologized, which she didn't have to it wasn't her fault

Ask for Ocean at the sandwich deli, he makes delicious sandwiches. I enjoy a turkey sandwich with Dutch crunch, bread and pepper jack cheese.

The entire inability of the management at this Safeway to staff is astounding. 6pm on a Monday evening, over 20 carts in line for a single lane open, and 30 people in line for self check out.

I am handicapped and need the use of an electric scooter. Every time I been to the store there are no scooters. I was told on my last visit the scooter is being repaired. You would think they would have a replacement scooter in the meantime. This may seem trivial but when you have breathing issues it makes a big difference.

On September 8, 2023 around 7.30 pm I arrived with my boyfriend at the store since we always go to this location since we always feel comfortable and satisfied with the service but today when we entered the store we saw a security of colored skin that was at the door and after making a quick purchase I felt that the security was watching us a lot and after going to check out we realized that the security was following us my boyfriend felt the same as me and made us feel like we were going to steal or do some damage in the store when he followed us to the exit even though we had paid for the product and I just showed him my receipt letting him know I had paid for my item and he just made laugh of looking at that and I feel bad that that kind of security made us feel uncomfortable when we always go to the store

Hands down, this is the best grocery store in town! The sheer variety of options available here is mind-blowing. From international cuisines to organic and gluten-free products, they have something for everyone. The layout of the store is well-planned, making it easy to navigate and find exactly what you're looking for. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and always willing to help. I also appreciate their emphasis on cleanliness and hygiene, especially during these challenging times. Shopping here is always a pleasure!

This review is for the service at the Deli. Occasionally I feel like a good sandwich made with quality ingredients. Safeway makes a great sandwich featuring Boar's Head meats and a great selection of cheeses and fresh bakery-made rolls. However, overall, most of the deli employees I encounter here are downright surly. Yesterday, around 6:30 pm, I had a hankering for a sandwich. No employee was out front, but 2 were visible in the back, presumably cleaning. I waited a long time to make eye contact with one of them to no avail. Another customer arrived and asked me if anyone had acknowledged me. She had to practically scream get the attention of one of the employees. She asked if he could help us at the deli. He did not verbally respond, but did come out (seemingly reluctant) to take our orders. He was either having a bad day or hates his job or both. When he did speak, he was barely audible and never made eye contact. When I asked for lettuce on my sandwich, he said "we don't have any." Really? This is a grocery store. While I find most employees at this store to be pleasant, I have encountered more than my fair share of rude and disgruntled deli employees. I'm not sure what gives. I'm often left feeling like my ordering a sandwich is an inconvenience to them.
