Used to be my favourite shoppe in LA. Sadly the prices are just too high, and the store's overrun with junk that should be either free for the homeless or in $1 bins. I find myself sifting through stuffed racks of clothing to find stained, ripped, cheap items priced far too high. Mostly fast fashion brands like Forever 21, H&M, etc. And heaven forbid someone donate any actual designer or luxury items - they price them so high that I don't know anyone in their right mind who'd pay that in 2024 with the way the economy is. This place used to have great steals, deals, treasures and finds... No more. The last vestige of its once fun and exciting status lies with its employees, who are usually warm and friendly. Can't complain there. Although, once I overheard an employee talking about how he got a huge donation from a sick man's friends after he'd passed away and there were blood stains all over much of his items. That was really disturbing and unsettling to hear about and made me question the hygiene of the rest of the store's donations.

A week ago I scheduled a pickup of furniture AND sent pictures. A few days later I called to make sure they wanted a large cabinet and they said yes. Monday I was told my window was 8-10am. I took the morning off work. At 8:30 I was called my the delivery men saying they can't sell a large cabinet and are rejecting my donation. I missed work for this. They were unapologetic.

I give all my donations to Out of the Closet because they help the community. I am always welcomed by the friendly staff. I will continue to donate here.

I used to drop by regularly and always leave with something that was at least fairly priced and unique, whether it be furniture, art, clothing, or jewelry -- not so much anymore. Nowadays, the pricing seems very high (above retail in many cases), which leads to things just lingering around the store for weeks. It makes no sense to overprice an item and lose floor space for weeks, while they could be making multiple sales and generating higher revenue by turning over the free inventory they are receiving. To further complicate things, the people pricing items are often times misinformed about what they are selling. For instance, a cheap reproduction chair will be priced for hundreds of dollars because google lens (app they use to research) shows pricing for an authentic piece. Additionally, the employees themselves receive priority on buying donations. This came to my attention when I saw an employee wearing a jacket that a friend of mine had donated (I had suggested donating to out of the closet and accompanied them to drop off donations.) The jacket in question was made by Burberry and I'm pretty sure the employee got a great price on it, unlike other customers who would have surely been charged over $400. On a separate occasion, I overheard one of the workers asking to set aside some things that had been donated until they could take a look. Again, not a huge deal but it seems unethical to give workers priority for items they price themselves. Overall I would still give this place 3 stars since they do eventually discount items and the majority of employees are at least nice people.

I come to this store pretty much every weekend and am happy with the selections available - except for the prices! I believe it is unethical for thrift stores to look up retail prices for items, when they are receiving these items as free donations. I have witnessed and heard the manager talking about doing this, and admitting that that is why the prices are so high. Why would I pay $2k for a used couch? Nearly $1k for a used dresser? Paintings for $45, from random unknown artists? It's pretty crazy. Don't come here expecting a bargain. You'll find designer items at designer prices.

I pop in to Out of the Closet at least once a week, and I have been delighted on many occasions by the product selection. The store is organized and merchandised well, the staff is very friendly, and 4/5 times I visit, I find something completely unexpected!

They need to pay attention to dogs in the store. Came in this afternoon to visit there was 3 dogs in the store... which is fine I understand people have service pets. There was one dog the owner could care less what it was doing. Knocked over some items. On my way out the dog jumped up on my arm and put my arm in its mouth. Startled me but the dog didn't bite down with pressure. I was halfway out the door and didn't want to escalate the scene. I am lucky the dog didn't bite me or it would have been a totally different situation here. This dog was clearly not a service animal. I usually love this store but I didn't feel safe today and I am not sure I'll be returning because of this carelessness. I hope this can be a learning opportunity to make your store safer.

Total Joke. Lined up to donate a good condition couch. The 2 drivers showed up today and looked at the couch. Said to me, its in pretty good condition actually but we can't take it because of some pet hair. Are you kidding me ?? Lazy drivers who don't take quality donations. Will never use them again. Already have another service on the way.

I really value this organization and have shopped there often. However I had a very bad experience with an in-home donation pickup. The driver and helper called to say they were arriving an hour early. The driver seemed annoyed that I was ok with that. He was extremely irritated on the phone before he even arrived. Once here, he was extremely rude, didn't acknowledge me or my "good morning" or offer of coffee or water. Once in my home he looked at my items and said "no one's going to buy this junk" and then told me he wasn't taking most of what I had listed. (I had listed the brands--Pottery Barn, World Market, Restoration Hardware, etc and the dimensions of each item when I scheduled the pickup) He left me in the lurch as I am moving in several days and had to scramble to make other arrangements. A complete waste of time and a very unpleasant experience. He also damaged the ceiling in my unit removing the one piece of furniture he grudgingly took. Now I'll be on the hook for that. I suggest Habitat for Humanity for donations.

I am a big fan of the store itself. Generally a pretty good selection and often of some pretty quality clothes. So, when I was preparing for a move, I decided to donate a bunch of quality furniture and thought I'd donate to Out of the Closet. They scheduled a pick up and arrived on schedule. So far, so good. But the two young men who came to do the pickup were (I think) quite lazy. They looked at my seven items, two of which were by Baker Furniture, and said they only wanted one of them (a small chest). It was by far the lightest items and could have been lifted with one arm. Everything else seemed to be too much work for them, so they passed saying they weren't salable. So I called Habitat for Humanity and they were here the next day and were overjoyed to take all seven items. So I wouldn't donate large items to Out of the Closet. Go to Habitat for Humanity for that. But Out of the Closet is still fine for donations of clothes.

I stopped in the last few weeks and picked up an item that I needed. I was thoroughly surprised at its performance and quality while using it multiple times a day. Friendly employee, good selection of items. Good job! Thanks.
