Sierra Nevada Cheese Company is a small batch, handcrafted cheese shop found off the freeway, though it is not marked on the highway so visitors should look for it. Founded in 1997, it makes natural and organic cow and goat’s milk products using traditional methods with the highest quality, rBST-free milk. The shop itself is super cute and incredible, offering a variety of delicious cheese, butter, yogurt, and other cultured products. Their cheeses, like the hatch chile Jack, jalapeño Jack, goat feta, mushroom, and garlic, are wonderfully smooth and creamy. The lemon yogurt is also a top favorite, noted for its amazing quality. They sell production edges for cheap and feature other local vendors with products like Paradise Pepper Sauce and candied jalapeños. The staff are very welcoming, nice, and helpful, providing extraordinary service. The company are big proponents of giving back to their community and host a festival every October with wine tastings throughout the year. It is a very lucky find and worth the trip.

I really like the smokehouse creamy jack cheese. Somehow it made its way all the way up to Ellensburg, Washington at the Thorpe fruit and antique store that I often stop by on my travels. Next time down in California, I’ll stop by this source for their cheese.
