Still closed in May 2023 to cars/camping, not day hikers.

No service so beware if you’re at Hoosier pass/fairplay it’s your last cell phone point. The Way finding can be confusing for most, especially if you arrive at night and not during the day. Amazing views. Definitely should have heavy duty truck/4x4. I would strongly discourage a car drive up to kite lake! Be respectful of water and natural environment. Few campsite, high wind speeds, hardly any signage. Beautiful setting and hikes surrounding the area. Fee and parking area are confusing as well

Gets quite crowded with hikers in the morning. I only saw 5 official campground spots not 6. Very rough “road” on the way up. Otherwise extremely beautiful.

Beautiful camping area. The estavlished area is pretty exposed to the elements, but there are good spots in the trees in NF. Really cool spot, easy access to the Decalirbon Loop. I love Alma!!!! I want to move there... y'all need a mechanic or journalist in town? Lol

We got there Saturday at noon and luckily there were two spots available. There are 5 designated campsites with picnic tables and a fire pit. No trees and can be very windy at times. You have to haul your camping-gear to your site. Bathrooms are typical pits and there is no water available. Bring toilet paper because of how popular the hiking area is. I would highly recommend a high-clearance 4x4 vehicle.

Such a beautiful place! Summits are amazingly beautiful, and so is kite lake and lake Emma. Love this place!

Great spot for camping and starting point to get one of 4 14ers peaks that are relatively close to each other. Road access very easy except last 500 feet where there is larger lose stones. We did it on adventure dual sport bikes which I presume not that bad. There is 3 $ fee for entry to the compeground.

Had a wonderful time enjoying the views, fishing the lake and exploring all the beautiful flowers that come out in late summer. We drove it in a 1975 Lincoln with our young son's and a wolf. And yes, even in the summer be sure to pack your warm clothes.

In mid September, it was super crowded. I have had a couple of experiences here. Beware of high winds when camping. The 14er loop that everyone comes to do is fairly well marked. Very pretty scenery.

The wildlife here is unreal. Walked through the campground after completing the Decalibron loop, and there was a huge herd of antelope drinking water at the lake. Will be back to camp next time!

Beautiful place, surrounded by big mountains and the sound of running streams. The fee to camp is a little steep. 13.00

I wish we had more time to spend hiking here. The views and trials were amazing.
