I went here to check out a poodle male dog they had for adoption. He was young and bigger than I wanted, so I had to walk away :(..nice facility..if you're looking to adopt put this facility in your search.

It's very easy to adopt a pet here if they have someone that would be a good fit for you. You don't need an appointment or to do a complicated application. You just show up when you're prepared to adopt.
If you just want to look at and stress out dogs from outside their kennels you can't do that here. Personally I think it's great that the shelter prioritizes the health and stress levels of the pets instead of the people who want to take their kids on a little trip to look at animals. I would suggest the Denver zoo for that.

You cannot freely tour this facility. The shelter is not open to the public. You must be approved for adoption before meeting the animals. I come from another state, this is a new concept for me. Curious to know if it helps with adoption rates and animal socializing or not? Either way, call shelters to confirm you can get your furry friend fix.

Unfortunately, my dog Freya went missing because of a negligent pet sitter, and then she was found deceased by Aurora Animal Control. Freya was brought to Aurora Animal Shelter, and from there, I had to face the tough reality that she was gone, with cremation being the next step. Upon discussing options with someone behind the desk, I was stunned at how the situation was handled. The person who assisted me made it very transactional, only expressing what felt like forced condolences after I paid in full. Then when I came to pick up Freya’s remains, I told the next person why I was there, and she turned around, grabbed the bag containing everything, handed it to me, then said “sorry.” For an animal shelter that handles situations like this regularly, their level of compassion is atrocious. I felt like another forgettable customer, not like someone who just lost a family member. I pray that nobody deals with a loss like I did, only to be brushed off as though I was inconveniencing them. I hope someone from the shelter sees this, as they need to improve dramatically. The only reason I gave 2 stars is because the Animal Control officer that called me to inform me Freya was found was very kind and apologetic, and even sounded broken up about himself. The shelter staff could learn a thing or two.

My fiancé and I adopted Dahlia (Cinders a little over 1yr) and Umbreon (Onyx 5m) earlier this week. We couldn’t be happier with our new family members. They were fast friends. I do want to add to the comment section though seeing these negative reviews. First off the amount of people who abandoned their animals in the 2hrs we were there is disheartening. There should be no excuse to abandon your animals! Simply do not get them if the responsibility is too much for you. These are living beings that deserve your loyalty till the day they die. I am amazed how kind the front desk ladies are despite what they probably put up with on the regular. I wanted to say thank you to all the workers at this shelter (: and especially to the sweet lady that helped us. Here is a few pictures of the kitties now! They are so cuddly and have stolen our hearts. I also want to add that these kitties were so clean upon adoption! They are well taken care of here. I recommend taking a chance on an older cat. They might surprise you. Also it’s hard to tell what your kitten or cat’s personality is going to be in the shelter compared to when you take them home. These two are completely different energies in the best way! Thanks again for everything ??✨

Hey guys I lost my cockatiel, his name is Deku. If you find him please contact me! He went missing last night as of 08/11/2024 but for some reason I can't view your missing animals off of my phone! We are working very hard in finding him and he looks very standard and has a band as well. I can identify that color. Thank you

Found a young bird that a cat had in its mouth called because he was bleeding. They said they would be sending someone to get it. I had to go to work had my son watch over it until they came. My son checked and it was gone. I came home and found him dead. Thanks animal field officer for coming to NOT GET HIM! I could have dropped him off but you said you were coming to get it. Don’t say your gonna come if you weren’t just call and say I have other important things to do. I know it’s just a bird but it was a beautiful bird. .
