I can’t believe after being diagnosed 19 years ago at the Barbara Davis Center, I am here giving them a 1 star review on my way out the door. I know a lot of us grew up with Octavia, the lady who does our vitals. Bless her heart, she is amazing. Kelly was always great too and maybe a few others I’m assuming have left. As for the rest, shame on the management, and rest of the “care” team to allow such NEGLIGENCE regarding our medical care. From ridiculously long response times (if they even answer at all), to refusing to refill medications, send prior authorizations, and correspond with insurance, pharmacies, other facilities, and doctors. I could go on and on. As I said. Negligent. We’re talking about life saving medications us type 1s will die without. Maybe they should really read their review and reflect. It should not take weeks, or months to be able to get issues resolved nearly EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. I wouldn’t recommend the BDC to anyone. Go else where if you don’t want to deal with the headache and stress as a diabetic that already has enough to deal with because of their illness.

This place should be sued for what they did to my sister. She has been going there for years since she was a child. Last year she found out she has ESRD. Barbara Davis center failed to refer her to a kidney doctor 4 years ago when they tested her kidney and they were only working at 50%. They failed to inform her that her kidney were failing and now it’s too late. Now she is on dialysis almost everyday until she get a kidney. It’s disgusting to see a healthcare organization dismiss the seriousness of her condition and not even inform the patient. They failed her and I’m sure they have failed others.

I really want to love this place again! BDC was the Gold Standard of Type 1 Diabetes care when I was kid. I never had the privilege of being seen there until I became an adult and jumped at the opportunity once they started providing adult care. I've been a patient for many years now. No, Im not the perfect diabetic but by far not the worst even though Im treated as if I am. My Dr is very cold, rushes through my appointments and doesn't seem to care to listen. I have to ask about treatments and other diabetic management options I learn about on my own. If I dont ask, she wont offer up the education. When I brought this to her attention, she told me I could just see someone else because she doesnt have enough time in the day to offer a more caring experience because she has other patients she has to see. I understand her perspective but that response was beyond inappropriate. At one point, I left 3 different messages over 3 weeks regarding a prior auth request on the Diabetic Educator line and no one ever called me back. They couldnt explain why, but did ultimately get it worked out to which I was grateful for. The person that sets appointments is very dry and unwelcoming over the phone. Not saying everyone has to give service with a smile on each call, but some level of kindness would be beneficial since she is represents the beginning of the patient experience.Everything Ive mentioned costs ZERO money to fix! Its just a matter of shifting the staffs energy and attitudes to embrace a positive and understanding experiences for their patients. I dont know what happened to the BDC but I do hope the Adult side can return to providing its quality of care and service that it was once renowned for having not long ago. BDC is and always serve as the hub of Diabetic care, education and research. Please treat those of us with this terrible disease with kindness. We appreciate all you do.

I am very disappointed with the adult clinic. My daughter has been a type 1 since she was 6 and is now 16. She has always seen the pediatric clinic and they are wonderful. When I got diagnosed at 39 I figured I would be seen here too. Well big mistake! The Dr’s in the adult clinic do not listen. I’ve seen two now and was told completely different things by both. The Dr I would like to see, the receptionist told me once I was initially seen I could schedule with him. After my initial visit which was a terrible experience, I was then told he’s too far out or now he’s not excepting new pts. The drs I have seen don’t listen and both told me totally different things about my diabetes. My blood sugars have been way worse since starting at this clinic.I was also told at my first visit that I could possibly do a study to help try and preserve my beta cells. I had got an initial phone call regarding the studies I would qualify for, was told I would be followed up with regarding these and then never was. The communication here is terrible. Everyone seems like they are on a different page. Does not seem knowledgeable about the disease process or treatment. I am just very disappointed in the adult clinic here since we have always had such a great experience with the pediatric clinic. I will be looking for a new endocrinologist closer to where I live that is hopefully more helpful. I would not recommend this clinic to anyone.

These people helped me get insulin to my son, who had not been seen there for awhile due to insurance change. This was a God send.Out of pocket was hundreds of dollars. He is waiting for new insurance information. He will be back as a patient.

Adult Clinic patient needing prescription and pre authorization - called 5 times leaving voicemails over the course of 5-business days...no call back. Had OptumRx call, no response. Life threatening need for insulin...extremely disappointed with this service. No telephone lines appear to be monitored - scheduling, prescription, or consultation. Great if you get them in person...

When i was a kid this place rocked. Their customer service skill are horrid. They tell you a time frame and never followup with you. They hang up when you ask to speak to thier manager when you call back they ignore your call. Be warned all type 1 diabetics this place is NOTHING like it used to be

My girlfriend has been with Barbara Davis all her life. We called them a couple days ago, as they did not authorize the prescription. The lady on the phone was very rude, and finally said she would take care of it and authorize her insulin. Funny story is, it was never authorized, putting my girl's health at risk and blowing her off. That is not in any way acceptable, considering diabetics RELY on insulin. I would not recommend this place for anyone's child, the people here DON'T CARE

At first I thought this was a nice place that cared about patients, it's not. They do not hire their doctors so that they can charge a facility fee and then doctors can charge a separate fee. Every visit was around $600. Then my niece was diagnosed 6 months ago and I learned how little they do care or want to help at BDC. Since my niece was diagnosed her team has kept her in the loop for current and upcoming studies in case she wanted to join any and updated her on local diabetes events and camps (and they have a small hospital in Idaho not associated with a large medical university). We have been at Barbara Davis center since 2017 and have never once received any additional information on events or activities for type 1's. At my daughter's last appointment I asked for any upcoming or current studies, as a school that claims amazing research they had 1 current study and no information on other possibilities around the country. As well we live out of state so yes we travel a distance to get there, every appointment they schedule with a new provider, which I feel decreases quality of care. I am already looking into other options that will place my daughter and her quality of life ahead of the amount of money they can make off my family as patients.

Overrated! We had an apt at 8:15. Had to wake my kiddo up early to drive 35 min to Aurora. Waited until 9:48 and the doctor never showed. Very frustrated. Now time to drive the 35 min back to my house. The only positive was not having a having a ton of traffic to increase drive time. We have been a patient since 3/2020 just found out from a friend they have a location in Highlands Ranch.

Today I called the Barbara Davis Center adult Clinic and I received a call back from a diabetic educator named Liz she was being completely rude and throwing attitude I was trying to explain to her what was going on with this new medication that I'm on because I was very concerned as I'm speaking to her she's speaking to someone else and I'm trying to explain to her what was going on after she was done talking to the other person she had attitude and was being rude I was asking questions about the medicine and she was answering me rude I asked her one simple question and she had an attitude I stopped and told her there was no need for her to have attitude to please have someone call me that was going to understand me and sit there and listen without an attitude I told her this is the same reason why I don't like going to clinics because now doctors and nurses have attitudes and they don't understand you and that was completely Rude the way she was acting after I'm concerned About the medicine I was on Because it was making me feel really sick...There's more to it but I'll leave it like that I don't think nurses and doctors should not be working at places like that if they're going to be rude And throw attitude and then get mad when you speak your mind back.

My son was diagnosed with diabetes at 17. He want from the ICU to This hospital. They were really good at first. Then when he turned 21 they just let him go. They said that the adult clinic was full. We don't know what we are going to do! His local Dr. is doing her best to manage his care. I'm currently watching my son struggle with small ketones (1.0 to 3.0) and his A1C is 17. Even with the insulin pump he runs over 700 daily with his blood sugars. So disappointed that he has slipped through the cracks. I'm going to take him to the mayo-clinic in Phoenix.

I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes when I was nine. I never had any grievous issues with the children's clinic but the adult clinic is atrocious. I'm astounded. I didn't know that they wouldn't refill my medication if I haven't been in a year. I kept trying to get refills of my medications, which I need TO SURVIVE, with no idea why I wasn't getting a refill. They, begrudgingly, gave me a refill after calling a few times. That was a couple years ago. NOW, they won't refill my prescriptions again and I've been without one vital medication for almost two weeks now. I'm in school in a different state, they have no available appointments until April anyways, I don't have insurance until February 1st so I have to wait until I can find a new endocrinologist. I've sent a message on My Chart, which I've been told in the past is the most efficient means of communication for them, explaining the situation with NO RESPONSE. I sent that message at least a week ago. I can't believe they would deny someone of their lively hood and ability to, literally, survive over an overdue appointment.
