They mean well but are bogged down by red tape. Any good they do is negated by the fact that they are understaffed. Make the Office of Community Care useful. Allow approvals for treatment or pay people more so they stay. Make it easy for a veteran to get seen by paying providers and working with them.

Very nice hospital. However, nothing is labeled. No signs for parking so you will end up driving around the building 10 times before you find it. None of the departments are labeled. There are no directories in the building, and instead of naming the departments, they name them after mountains. Instead of saying ear nose throat, it says "Huron Peak". How am i supposed to know ENT is at Huron Peak? Very confusing place, just put signs up naming the departments.

I’m tired of the run around and the non-communication between every department that there is.

VA Hospital in Aurora CO is worst in the Country! I have been made to wait in the waiting room for over two hours until I had to leave for a different appointment, so never did get the shot I had been waiting for for over 3 months! Recently had cat scan in ER and the staff whom did the catscan had an extremely negative attitude & accused me of moving my head back & forth when in fact I kept it extremely still & then he said" it doesn't matter anyway". Doctor also, was extremely negative & could care less about my injuries after u was jumped in early morning hours and have broken nose & messed up eye etc. He told me my nose is not broken, after he just glanced at it, when it in fact is broke. I have had 3 botched surgeries at this hospital and thethwynwill not.do anything.abouy it! Do not go to this worthless Hospotal, ever! They will.mess you up and not care about jt!

Good luck if you’re coming to the ER to be seen about anything mental health wise or about an assault. Everyone here will look at you like a zoo animal and have not even one ounce of sympathy for you. The on call mental health worker is a joke. You can beg them to help you and all they’ll ask you what you can be doing to help yourself. I got more answers to my questions from google than I did from the actual ER doctor himself. Then you wonder why people don’t come forward about assaults or sexual problems. You guys can make the building as pretty as you want, it will never make up for the disgusting excuses of humans you have working here.

I have been going here since they opened this VA facility. Overall the hospital building itself is pretty nice and the staff members FOR SPECIALTY CARE ARE GREAT, But when it comes to primary care, they are absolutely terrible its like trying to get past a goalie to get sent out to any clinics. I begged for years to get my shoulder checked out and to get to a neurologist these requests were never listened to. I also requested routine blood work and was denied time and time again. The primary care has no clue who I am or what my problems are. I was finally sent to community care for a primary care physician and got much better service and the doctor requested physical therapy, orthopedics, neurology and much more, however the VA takes 2-6 months to process the request from the community care doctors that they appoint if the VA approves the treatments and even after the VA approves they do not always fulfill the consult and send me to the proper clinics. After decades of going to the VA I have finally gotten private insurance so I can get seen for what the VA will not do in a timely manner. There are some good things about the VA, for example I have mental health consults referred out to the community to a company called Sondermind and I can see them as often as I like and change providers as needed within their company and the VA always pays no questions asked. I also get community care for Dental work and I was able to pick my own dentist and finally after years gotten my teeth fixed. The community care system is getting better in some areas. Overall the VA has improved that is why I am giving it 2 stars instead of one. Years ago it was much worse than it is today. I would recommend having private insurance along with the VA healthcare. If you cannot get timely service within 21 days for primary care you can request community care Primary Care Physicians, specialty care clinics are 28 days and you can request community care. They may argue with you but just reference the "Mission ACT" if they give you trouble. Typically it will get things going faster sometimes you still hit snags like I have. In that case you can use your private insurance or self pay then fill out VA form 10-583 "CLAIM FOR PAYMENT OF COST OF UNAUTHORIZED MEDICAL SERVICES" The VA will reimburse you for unauthorized medical services. For example I have been waiting for 4 months to get my shoulder fixed by a surgeon and they have not seen me at the VA in all that time. I also have asked for 2 years for specialized neurology testing and they still have not provided that. I will pay for it with my private insurance and then charge the VA for the portion I pay. Also utilize the patient advocate by email I have had to email them multiple times on services and sometimes I have to email multiple times to get a single situation fixed sometimes they will have a person from the depart you are having trouble with reach out to you and that may not fix the problem and you may have to complain again if you do this enough times it will get you to the head of the department you are having trouble with and that person is usually very reasonable. Also emailing Departments is much easier than calling and they have to respond to your messages and it goes into your medical record automatically so if they tell you something that is not correct you can just show that to the advocate and it makes your case much easier. If you get community care you can also email the admins instead of waiting on the phone. I have found email to be much more effective and generally the person who answers emails seems to have better training and knowledge than some of the call center people do. Best of luck to you all. Pretty great experience. Doctors were nice and friendly. Working in the medical field is stressful and they do a good job managing people, illness and other challenges.10/10

I have been bringing my dad here for years now. I don't think the people that work here get enough credit. They are fabulous both in the clinic and ER.

Fantastic facility! The folks are just amazing from ER, to surgery to nursing, housekeeping to maintenance. I was stuck here for a few weeks while they saved my life, and was extremely fortunate to have the VA in my life, and meet these wonderful humans from all over the Med Center campus.

My VA Medical Center is in Salem, Virginia, about 1.5 hours from where I live. The campus dates back to Franklin Delano Roosevelt days, so it's old.But the medical services are good.OTOH, Denver's VA Medical Center is like the 21st century. And when I visit here, (my daughter and her husband, both Marines live in Aurora), the intake and Medical services are great.I mean, you can always complain or you can appreciate what you have here.

The single worst VA I’ve ever been to. I’ve been to LA’s, NYC’s, and Long Island’s VA and not a single employee at any of those hospitals show the level of incompetence this entire hospital shows. Wanna see your primary care physician ? 2 months out. Mental health consultations take over 20 days. I’ve called the mental health department and been sent to voicemail just for the voicemail box to be full. They spent all this money to make it a brand new facility yet they can’t hire enough employees plus the ones that they do hire don’t have an IQ over 60.

I go to Denver VA dental and I was told by the dentist he won't work on me unless I get my acid reflux under control. They make an appointment then cancel, make an appointment I show up and I'm not in the schedule. I am going to have to go see a patient advocate now and possible do a congressional. Not fair, fun and a waste of my time just to get care I'm qualified for.
