I joined CrossFit to learn the appropriate and safe way to work out as I navigate the changes that accompany middle age. Matt and his staff are passionate about what they do, are genuine in their concern for my safety, and are enthusiastic about embracing fitness. I feel like they know my specific strengths and weaknesses and are invested in my success.

Wish I had joined a long time ago! The coaches are very personable and bother to learn all the athletes' names and skills. The workouts are a ton of fun and challenging. Coaches go out of their way to make sure you're getting the most out of your workout and staying safe all while still improving. Love coming to classes and not having to think about what to do. Best, most effective hour of my day!Totally understand why CrossFitters talk about CrossFit so much now. ;)

I am 49 (2023) and have been doing Crossfit for the past 10 years coming from big corporate gyms and triathlons. Crossfit is an all-in-one training modality that incorporates functional strength training, gymnastics, and cardio. Crossfit does not build the beach-ready V-shape body. Also, I would not try to compare to anyone doing pure weightlifting, gymnastics, or endurance sports. The trade off is I can comfortably weekend warrior (hiking, mountain biking, SUP, snowboarding), move a full house of furniture, and complete all of the obstacles (except the javelin) in spartan races. Crossit is also built around community and shared suffering. If that aligns with your fitness goals, Crossfit could be for you.I have been a member of 5 Crossfit boxes and worked out in locations around the world. In Crossfit, each location designs their programming to include a different proportion of strength training, gymnastics, and cardio. The coaching style, equipment, class schedule, class size, and demographics are all different. It's important to find the one that best suits you.I have been happy with the coaching and workouts at Widespread. The community is supportive, and I have been able to maintain good fitness. Here is my view of Widespread to see if it might work for you:- being in the suburbs, members are generally over 35 with kids- most everyone's goal is for longevity and general fitness over qualifying for the games; people are not glued to the leaderboard- the programming feels like a 40/20/40 mix of strength/gymnastics/cardio- coaching stresses form and weight appropriate for you- there is no pressure to Rx the movement or weight- you are encouraged to challenge yourself but not redline or max out; no one is puking or getting rhabdo- the class size (8) is small- the gym has the typical Crossfit equipment like barbells, dumbbells, rig, rings, rowers, bikes, wall balls, kettlebells, padded boxes- uncommon equipment like rope climb, sandbags, sleds, tires, specialty landmine attachments

Classic Gym. Very knowledgeable coaches. They always make sure that your movements are correct. They are also great at scaling up or down based on each athlete's strengths and weaknesses. Great motivator and welcoming community. Its been 6 month in Widespread Fitness. By far the best decision I have ever made. Seeing the progress I make along the way is amazing feeling as I never thought that I am capable so much more than I think.I would highly recommend this gym.

I love this gym and the coaches. I’m in my mid 40s and have never done CrossFit or workouts like this before. Class sizes are small so you get personalized instruction and everything is doable/scalable based on your needs/abilities. I always feel great when leaving a class!

Can I do Crossfit? Yes, I can! As an overweight 50-year-old, I needed something new to get my health back on track. I thought I would try Widespread for the summer. Well, 2 ½ years later I am the gym faithfully twice a week. Matt and his team of coaches always push my limits while scaling to my fitness level. As a bonus, the gym plans many community events. So, I get to meet and socialize with other members.
