In Canon for 17 years and 3 animals adopted from CCHS. Before Doug Rae it was like I was rescuing them from The Humane Society. With his leadership, we now have an organization Canon citizens can be proud of.

I have a wonderful intelligent well trained six month old puppy that knows every basic command. He gets along well with the dogs and cats but the dog was only supposed to be with me for training but the rightful owner became too sick and could not take the puppy. He is also house trained, crate trained but unfortunately the humane society refused to take this puppy unless I paid a mandatory $100 surrender fee. Even after speaking with management he was still refused. I was told it's because they have to pay the vets to neuter him but I was under the impression when you adopt a dog part of the fee was the animal being neutered. It's extremely disappointing that a place that should save animals is refusing them. I have never lived in a place where the humane society refuses to take an animal without payment.

The smell and as soon as you walk in the front door is atrocious, they have plenty of pets to adopt. I wish more people would realize instead if I bought this dog as. Whim don't like it anymore, just let it go, but this place has a few rules that are just not conducive to adopting a dog.

Absolutely appalling the level of condescending behavior from this shelters employees when calling for information. Having to surrender a dog is not an easy decision to make ever, especially when someone has spend years trying to correct behavioral issues that have become dangerous for the other animals in the household. The last thing someone needs when they've been trying to rehome a dog before calling a shelter as a last resort, is for the employees to be condescending and making unnecessary comments as if people are not educated. Completely inappropriate in everyway.

The director and management ensure that no animal goes without medical care no matter the expense. Each furbaby is treated with love and care, while staff work hard to ensure every animal is safe and living in a clean space with plenty of outside time, enrichment and social time with other animals. They take time to really get to know the animals in their care and ask lots of questions with adopters to help find the perfect family/pet match. They want each animal to go to a successful forever home. If you can't adopt, please consider donating to their medical fund, food fund or general care. Volunteers are welcome.

This humane society is a blessing. My lovely dog and I wanted to make some donations to this humane society. Everyone was working so hard to help out with the yard sale that was going on. These these wonderful people said, "hold the phone we need to get these inside for our dogs." So many good people taking care of such precious animals.I feel as though this location takes real pride in their animals and their treatment.

We actually went for the annual yard sale, I highly recommend for next year. However the people who work at the HSFC are amazing and wonderful they help so many animals in need from the biggest to the smallest.

Very sad tale with this Shelter. They denied adoption , even with reference and landlord approval AND a VET ready to go . There feedback was that I made workers uncomfortable yet never talked to any , they wanted records on previous animals which I have. I have outstanding references. I would never willingly let an animal go without Shots or Boosters. I am shock. Two other Humane societies accept me just too far away. This is Surreal. I offered a home visit and am willing to provide ANYTHING they need. ANYTHING. I chose Freeborn because it was close . I thought Humane Societies' were about providing homes. I have a quiet peaceful loving home beats a cage. Am confused how can you make a companionship for life based upon a one page adoption sheet . Work with me . ANYTHING. I have never adopted an animal from Freebourne . I have been decent in my earlier e-mails that didn't get responded Too. This feels very cliquishI had hoped to provide a home simple I know enough about animals they must get shots Buddy -Rivertown Veterinary Clinic and At Home Vet Clinics both in Stillwater Minnesota as well as confirm Mufasa's had shot records I have offered everything I am a Vet who lives alone and really wanted a companion.ThIs DOESNT FEEL RIGHT . I am hoping that they are an agency that works with folks instead of shoot them Down Doesn't feel good and a response from the repliar should be interesting

I was told to wait on Friday until Monday for some puppies that were spayed and neutered that day. I was told to wait until March 17th like the door posting on the kennel said for adoption. On Monday I received a phone call saying the puppies were adopted at 10am. That's interesting for lots of reasons including I was told you can't adopt pets until after 11 and you have to meet them a couple times first. So I believe I was lied to. Then I inquired on any left over puppies and they said they had one but didn't know what it was and wouldn't go check. The worst customer service I have ever seen. Laura was extremely disrespectful and rude and I think she scallywagged me by lying to me about the puppies. This makes it extremely difficult to get a dog. Might as well buy elsewhere. Not worth the hassle. I went 3 times and was givin the run around while trying to adopt an animall everytime and never achieved an animal. Definitely not worth it for 200+. But I will say the animals do deserve a chance to get out of doggie jail.

Outstanding experience here for sure! I originally came in looking for a specific dog from the website, upon meeting that dog, it was clear that we were not a good fit together, but Bre (who was the one helping me) took the time to get to know our situation, and said "hang on, there's someone you should meet" then she brought my boy, Drax, and he instantly jumped up in my arms and gave me a hug. Now, 2 years later, our Drax is still a perfect fit for my son and I, he loves to snuggle, wrestle, and go for rides in the car. Can't thank the Canon City humane society, and Bre enough.
