“A HUGE thumbs up for Austin Auto

My wife and I were in Canon City for a weeklong event. On Wednesday of that week, we made the trip up to Pike's Peak. On the way down we stopped by the side of the road next to a barrier and got out and left the engine running. We noticed a minor noise coming from the engine. The next morning at the hotel I investigated the noise further and it was bad enough that I decided we should get it checked out as we were planning on leaving the next day.

The first shop we went checked it out and decided it was the water pump as the pulley for it had a slight wobble. The shop manager stated they hadn't replaced a water pump on our model van and his reference books stated that the engine needed to be pulled to replace the pump. They were too busy to take that big of a job on short notice and said that they could do in in a week. We didn't want to wait as we needed to leave Canon City to get back to Seattle. The shop manager provided us with the names and number of a couple of other shops in town and the dealer info in a town 30 miles away.

We made the trip to Austin Auto and they confirmed the water pump needed to be replaced but they were booked a month out. Kevin the shop manager did state that he felt the water pump could be replaced without pulling the engine. At that point my wife and I were flummoxed. We went out to our van and were talking about how we were going to handle staying around Canon City, renting a car, extending our hotel stay, cancelling and making new hotel reservations for our trip back to Seattle once the water pump work was complete. We were in the process of calling the dealer to check with them when Kevin walked out to talk to us. He said he talked to his shop foreman about the water pump replacement and the fact that we were in a bind and were supposed to leave the next day. The shop foreman had experience replacing water pumps on this type of engine and apparently took pity on our situation and said he'd be willing to do the work himself so we could be on our way on schedule. Kevin checked us in and he made sure the parts needed were available. He said they'd be able to have the work done late the same day or the next depending on how it went.

We went back to the hotel and then decided to go hit some touristy spots. Late the same afternoon Kevin called and said the work was done and we could come and pick up the van. We were ecstatic and so happy that Austin Auto was so helpful and efficient
