Rueter-Hess Reservoir offers a peaceful outdoor experience, perfect for activities like kayaking, paddle boarding, and walking. Visitors appreciate the helpful ranger and reasonable entry fee, though they are advised to make reservations in advance as payment is not accepted at the gate. The area is not crowded, making it a nice escape from busier locations. However, it can be windy, which may affect water activities, and the mud can be quite muddy. Some restrictions on access and fishing areas are noted as drawbacks, but many enjoy the beautiful views and wildlife. Overall, it’s a great spot for families and outdoor enthusiasts looking for a quiet adventure.
Beautiful setting can’t wait until paddle board season!

Had a great time kayaking in Hess. It is definitely a secret and not really crowded which is nice when you consider the other reservoirs in Denver metro.

We took the kids paddle boarding and had a great time. There weren’t many people so it was very peaceful. $15 a person is too much to pay, but other than that we enjoyed our time. I recommend bringing an umbrella for shade too.
