A couple of your cashiers need a serious attitude adjustment… specifically the shorter gal with brown hair and glasses. Crestone is an extremely small town, us locals don’t need attitudes when we’re shopping in our community stores.

Yooo those chicken fajita packs y’all made last night were some of the best I ever had. Tossed them in a cast iron and the who family loved them. Whoever put those together, perfect seasoning.

From the moment you step inside, you are greeted with a warm ambiance and an impressive variety of items that cater to all your needs. Whether you're seeking personal care products, pantry essentials, tantalizing snacks, or fresh produce, this store has it all, and then some! One of the store's most notable features is its commitment to offering organic options. For health-conscious shoppers like myself, this is a delightful surprise. From organic fruits and vegetables to pantry staples, the store ensures that we can maintain a wholesome lifestyle without compromising on quality or taste. However, the real highlight of this hidden treasure lies in its impressive meat section. The marinated options are a unique and flavorful offering that instantly elevates the dining experience. Furthermore, the fresh-cut beef selection is second to none. The meat is always of the highest quality, expertly prepared, and a treat for any culinary enthusiast. If you're not in the mood to cook, fear not, for this store has you covered with their mouth-watering roasted chicken, available weekdays at 1 pm. I believe they are closed on Sundays. The team is genuinely friendly, helpful, and always eager to lend a hand. Their personalized service and warmth contribute to the overall exceptional shopping experience.

We have a cabin in CRESTONE, so we are in and out of town frequently. Initially, we would load up on groceries in either Salida or Alamosa before we rolled in, but we've developed a real familiarity with CRESTONE Mercantile, and we've determined it has just about everything we need. I think their prices are quite reasonable given that you're 50 miles away from any kind of established town. The real treasure here is the meat department. They carry absolutely exquisite grass-fed locally raised meat that is impossible to beat at one of the conventional supermarkets. My daughters have been living in the cabin over the summer (2023), and they go down to the Mercantile almost every day and bring back really good food. CRESTONE would be essentially completely barren if it wasn't for CRESTONE Mercantile and Crestone Hardware, owned by the same people. (There is another market called Elephant Cloud, but I think it caters more to vegetarian preferences.) We are are glad to have this business in this community. I wish there was more economic activity in CRESTONE, but most businesses really struggle here. Apparently, Colorado does not allow grocery retailers to carry wine or liquor. So you will need to buy your liquor in Alamosa or Salida as you head into town.

I dunno what y’all did to that ribeye steak today, but THAT WAS THE GREATEST STEAK I EVER HAD.I don’t even have a cast iron skillet and I seared it on a Walmart nonstick just salt, pepper, oil, butter, garlic, and rosemary; 5min each side at 400 degrees in the pan, hit 130 internal temp let it rest for 6 min. I also got crazy and threw a tablespoon of bacon fat in the wine reduction I made for it.The grain was straight up and down, marbling was crazy, inch and a half thick, DIESEL STEAK.5 stars forever.

The store has a surprisingly large selection of food for a small town store, so that was great! However, the produce, bottled sodas, and certain dry good items tended to be stale - which was not great because it is a bit pricey to shop here. Certainly better than taking the hour drive to the next town, but a bummer nonetheless.

Gotta say...the Merc has some wonderful surprises on their shelves. Sometimes my recipes call for items I didn't think a small mountain town grocery would have yet THERE IT IS on the shelves. I'm impressed!
