Big 5 is more of a specialty sporting goods store that has quality products but not as big of a selection as some other shops might have!

You can find some really good deals on well made knives. Some deals on ammunition. However depending on who's working you will either get somebody who knows nothing. Or you may find somebody who knows nothing but is at least polite and willing to trust you to share your knowledge with them. I asked for 44 magnum cartridges and the designated Firearms salesperson answered what's that? I pointed at what was obviously a Spyderco knife the only one in the store. Again she couldn't tell a 1950s Barlow from a Spyderco. If they have it in stock and you know what you're doing you can sometimes find good deals on firearms and Boots. Otherwise they don't know anything about what they're selling. These are people who have probably never been much west of golden trying to sell you hiking and camping gear. It shows that they have not participated in any of those activities.

Good for cheap sports stuff, quality isn't the best, but the price is great. I wouldn't recommend buying baseball bats here. They break easy. But for batting gloves and belts it's the best price.

It’s got what you need but isn’t anything over the top. Feels like a hole in the wall shop.

Google store hours don’t match actual store hours. (i.e., Sun morning, the store doesn’t actually open til 10am) Decent inventory, unhelpful staff. Can’t be bothered from lounging in their resting places to help a customer find something.

Average store. Employees standing around talking trash about people who fill out applications and don't show for interviews.

Always a good shopping experience. Smaller store but so easy to quickly pick up what you need . Today it was wrestling shoes . In and out in 20 mins.

Imagine walking into a sporting goods store, ready to drop $$, and you walk past three associates and a manager without being greeted, approached, or assisted on any level. That's what happened to us. We were what looked to be the only two shoppers in the store. We were fully loading up on roller hockey gear and setting ourselves up for tennis, so no small purchase was missed when we left. We walked right by everyone not working with no purchase. This did turn out to be a blessing in disguise. We went to Sports Plus in the Washington Park area, and because they have both new and used equipment we had an enormous variety to choose from. The staff there were very attentive and knowledgeable.I do not recommend this Big 5 in any regard. They don't seem to want the business.
