While I understand the need/demand for an entity to be responsible for the strays and loved furry friends of the county.
This shelter has got to be the most finicky/clique-ish shelter I’ve ever had to deal with.
I was guided into thinking surrendering a COUPLE household family member’s for their ‘best interest’ was a commendable thing to do.
However I was never informed that difficult decision would lead me to being COMPLETELY unable to open my home; 5&7YEARS LATER to ANY other pets of any species from this shelter.
When I asked why I was unable to adopt they said because of my (2 canine) surrenders I’ve been flagged and put on a Do Not Adopt LIST.
At the time of this last interaction; I was trying to adopt a couple of kittens after surrendering a couple (2) dogs.
I was told I could try to vouch for myself but the manager never contacted me.
One of the ladies met me with what I interpreted as an incredibly rude statement of…
‘Well how do I know these KITTENS won’t be determined to be unfit for your family and then I’m stuck trying to figure out what to do with them…’
In which I responded I’ve NEVER surrendered a cat and also STILL HAVE my cat of almost 11years currently.
Not only that but, they were in fact KITTENS so I’m sure they would’ve found a home regardless.
Didn’t matter I was ghosted by the entire team after a meet and greet with not one but three excited children.
I would highly recommend not using this shelter for any weighted or difficult decisions of surrender or re-homing any furry loved one.
Save yourself the judgments and just go to Garfield or Summit county. They have both been BEYOND amazing and positive experiences in ALL the situations.
***I have NOT had other experiences with this shelter aside from the two surrenders and one time rescuing my dog who managed to escape our yard while we were working from it when you guys got to her within an hour of her escaping on a weekend and you guys picked her up DOWN THE STREET from us. && yes I got mad when it was going to cost us over a hundred dollars to get my dog because it was ‘after hours’ .
I definitely said NOTHING about my dog not being good with cats because we’ve ALREADY had a cat in the house since the dog was a puppy. She’s NEVER had issues with cats, other dogs, even smaller pets. Nice try people!!! The bad review is there and there’s no further lies you can exploit.

Outrageous prices. The thought that someone would bring a dog they find in someone's yard to a place that robs you of your money. Receiving a dog right before they close, they're going to charge you a rate for 2 days even if you go as soon as they open. Not to mention, they have the worst hours known to man. This is DOG PRISON, and they dont treat their animals with anything.

It took awhile for the right kitten to be available for adoption, and since I’d never had a pet before I considered purchasing a kitten out of impatience and allergies, but my experience at Eagle County Animal Services completely changed my mind.
I already found it hard to justify the cost of purchasing a kitten (usually $1,000+), but when I learned about all the included benefits of adopting I will likely never consider purchasing a pet again. $150 for a sweet, allergy-friendly Russian blue Mix kitten, with shots, neutering, a starter kit, and a free post-adoption vet visit. I got all of her previous medical records and exams. They also have a seven day, no questions asked return policy if the animal isn’t a good fit, which I do wish was just a little longer since cats take longer to come out of their shell but I still think it’s more than fair.
I hadn’t realized how much this shelter does for the community, and I couldn’t be happier with my kitten. Adopt don’t shop! Oh and if you want to support the shelter, buy them items from their amazon wishlist, don’t donate to the general fund because the county can redistribute those donations!

We adopted Rainy (fka Fir) from the good people at Eagle County Animal Services one year ago and he has brought an unmeasurable amount of happiness to our lives. Rainy is the best boy and we are so thankful for ECAS for a warm and seamless adoption experience. The facilities were clean and calm and the people were spectacular. It's clear they love what they do. To anyone reading this, make an appointment to meet the animals up for adoption at Eagle County - you won't regret it!!

They side with liars and don’t follow through on reports called 3 times and nothing happened when my dog was attacked by two other dogs that broke leash
