Estes Park Memorial Observatory offers a remarkable experience for those interested in astronomy. Visitors consistently praise the knowledgeable hosts, particularly Mike, who shares his passion for the stars and space. The observatory features educational presentations, including videos on space and a star wall display, which are both entertaining and informative for families and astronomy enthusiasts alike. Guests have enjoyed using the 16" telescope, where they have observed planets like Saturn and Jupiter, globular clusters of stars, and even satellites passing by. The observatory is a heartfelt memorial built by Mike in honor of his adult children who tragically passed away. Admission is free, and donations are appreciated, contributing to scholarships for local students. While some visitors noted challenges like cloudy skies or bright moonlight limiting visibility, the overall experience remains highly rated. The facility itself is beautiful and well-maintained, making it a significant community asset. Visitors recommend booking in advance to ensure a spot and to enjoy this unique opportunity during a trip to Estes Park.
Mike is an absolute gem and what he’s doing is remarkable and important. This was an amazing way to spend a few hours. We learned so much and even saw Saturn! The set-up has high-tech gear but humble surroundings. A must-see for a visit to Estes Park.
