As the Director of Middle School Outdoor Education at Shining Mountain Waldorf School in Boulder, CO, I have now worked with Rimrock Adventures on three major river trips through Ruby Horsethief Canyon. Each time, they proved to be an exceptional outfitter and partner, providing outstanding service and equipment for both our 7th and 8th-grade trips this year (and our 8th grade trip last year).
Throughout the planning process, their team demonstrated incredible flexibility, adapting to our evolving needs and last-minute changes with patience and a commitment to our program’s success.
Rimrock’s equipment is well loved but high quality and durable. They provided sturdy canoes, rafts, groovers, and camping gear; their team went above and beyond to ensure we had everything needed for a safe and rewarding experience (including a last-minute toilet paper delivery when we forgot it on one of our trips!).
Thanks to Rimrock Adventures, our students had an unforgettable journey that fostered resilience, teamwork, and a deep respect for the natural world. I wholeheartedly recommend Rimrock for any group seeking a reliable, flexible, and dedicated outfitter to make their outdoor adventures a success.

Great place to start your Ruby Horsethief rafting trip. Most people in our group rent rafts from them and have had great experiences. We have also shuttled vehicles with them and everything turned out great. We usually go here 1-2 times a year.

We had a fantastic float! We did the 3hr+ trip from Grand Junction to Fruita. It was smooth sailing with just a few small rapids. There were two rafts, one for us and our friends, and another family that journeyed along too. Danica was their guide, and she was great. Our guide was Cam and he was fantastic! We all kept each other entertained with great stories, and he was very knowledgeable about the river areas as we went through. He even gave me a turn rowing. I'll let him keep that job. Lol! Thank you, Rimrock Adventures, for a great day!

Rafting trip from heron to fruita. Slow relaxing ride. Seating on the side of raft wall was undesirable. Wish they had put the middle seating in. Pricing was affordable.

We went on the 1 hour sunset ride and thoroughly enjoyed it. Dani and Mia were our super friendly and knowledgeable guides that made us feel very welcome and comfortable. They even take your picture with an incredible view of the Monument in the background. We rode Kingston and Lucky and had a great ride with beautiful views. We plan on coming back for another ride and would highly recommend this activity to others in the area. They also have rafting tours as well here. What a fun trip for all!

We used the shuttle service for a rafting trip for our Tesla. We were a bit worried about the car and driving on the roads around the take out and put in but it was totally hassle free! Thanks to our driver Craig for keeping our car safe!

We took advantage of the Paddle and Saddle guides which included 2 hr Horseback ride and 3 hr River Raft trip in the backcountry of beautiful Fruita Colorado, we loved them both.
Thank you ladies for the extra care you showed this nervous grandmother while guiding her precious grandson on his first horseback guided ride, your knowledge of the area and the great conversations made this not only fun but it was educational as well.
Brandon, we loved every minute with you on the raft trip, it was like spending the afternoon with an old friend. Your experience, calm attitude and warm presence gave comfort to us all. LOVED the conversations!
Our whole family had a wonderful time during both of these outings and plan to do it again soon!

I debated posting this review but seeing that I've rented from Rimrock for over 5 years I'm sad to say I probably won't be renting anymore rafts from them. The whole process I was treated like I was a bother and a nuisance. I was insulted because I wanted the raft deflated on pickup. I was yelled at to find a different parking spot even though I was told to pull up there. And to top it off the boat equipment and set up felt like we got the left over equipment barely holding on by a thread. The experience is not worth the money anymore for me.

The horseback ride was beautiful but started out awful. I am an experienced rider, I rode competitively for 5 years and have done lots of trail rides. When I went to mount my horse, he immediately started trying to buck me off. I was not even on him yet, I had simply put my foot in the stirrup. I now have bruising on my chin, and all along the right side of my body including my stomach and arm. The guide did handle it well and immediately switched me to a different horse, but also said that they just got the horse a couple of days ago. A company should never put a client on a horse that they just got a few days before without training him appropriately or seeing how he does on trail rides with less experienced riders than the guides. I am fairly experienced, but if they had put a beginner on that horse they probably would’ve been bucked off and hit their head. Also, the stirrups were way too high which I did tell the guide. She did lower them, but they still felt too high, especially to mount from the ground without a mounting block. Again, the guide did handle it very well and the ride was beautiful after I switched horses, but thought people should be aware of this. You do have to sign a liability waiver and horseback riding is dangerous, but I have dealt with bucking horses before and have never had this happen or had a horse start bucking simply by putting my foot in the stirrup.
UPDATE: a week later, I still have some bruising and went to urgent care where I was put into a splint/brace for one of my injuries from this event.
