One of the best car rental experiences I've ever had. I had forgotten to check the hours of operation and showed up to an empty airport. We were able to get ahold of Jim the manager, and he came back after hours to get us situated with a car. We were completely stranded and he saved the day. Would absolutely recommend using this Hertz if you're in the Steamboat area.

Absolutely HORRIBLE customer service from Jim the manager and owner. STAY AWAY at all costs. There are plenty of other options at the Haydn/Steamboat airport, Avis, Budget, etc. it’s not worth doing business with Jim and Hertz at Hayden Airport. The condescending attitude and smirk, after our family with two small children had to deal with a faulty car with NO HEAT during a snowstorm, and Jim telling me well we shouldn’t have driven in the snow, was the final straw…life is too short to do business with people like this. Zero accountability and laughable level of customer service.

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! As you'll see in other reviews the owner is a complete jerk. Stay away and choose a different rental company in Hayden Steamboat, there are many others to choose from. You'll be glad you did!

This Hertz took care of my wife when she rented a car here through her work. Good people when they didn't have to be.

Overall the rental experience was great. The biggest problem I have is I paid in full for my rental when I reserved it. I had to shorten my trip due to a winter storm blowing in and returned the car three days early. They would not give me a credit because it was pre-paid. Even though weather was a huge factor. Lesson learned on my part. Either go to another company that will reimburse you if weather is an issue or do not pre-pay.

No one company is perfect. I read a few negative reviews but my experience was very different. I booked a car for the week after Christmas, the busiest week of the year. The only ones left were not SUV’s. I inquired if one had become available when I approached the counter. Jim, who I believe is the manager, was helping me. He was very pleasant and helpful. He had one smaller SUV left, but did tell me it was not a 4 wheel drive. When I got to Steamboat Mountain and in particular, our street, I could not make it up the hill. We tried and tried but there was no chance. Eventually, we were able to flag down a snow truck to try removing snow on the steep hill. It took a while but with the assistance of the truck, we got the rental car to the end of the cul de sac. I soon realized I was not going to go anywhere in that car. I called a day or 2 later to let Hertz know. I did not think they could or would do anything. Surprisingly, Jim had gotten a 4 wheel drive and was going to switch it out for me the next morning at 8am. Sure enough he was on time, brought the same vehicle but with 4 wheel drive, and we were able to have transportation for the rest of the week. On a side note, It was really funny watching Jim maneuver the car with spinning tires. He figured out to back it into my neighbors heated drive way and floored it. We had bets if he could do it! His mad skills were apparent and he got it going. After returning the car, I saw he had given me a credit on the unused days. I have already booked my next car rental at Hertz when I return in February. You better believe it is a 4 wheel drive. Thanks Jim at Hertz! You took great care of the Steier Family.

Really poor customer service. Just for reference, it had snowed 10 inches the day we went to pick up our rental car. The rental car was the "company's choice". The woman made it very clear that we were getting a 2 wheel drive vehicle because we had canceled another reservation (DUE TO COVID mind you). My husband got stuck leaving the parking lot because this woman was so spiteful. This is a hazard and it's ridiculous that a car company would even allow customers to leave the parking lot in such dangerous conditions with a 2 wheel drive vehicle.Luckily, we have a very large platform and will be telling our audience about this so no one else has to experience this.

I rented a car at this location through AAA. When I arrived, the vehicle I was given was not what I reserved. I reserved a standard car and was given a Kia Soul, a very small suv. Since we were going to do a lot of distance driving, I told them this was not acceptable. I offered to come back in a few days if they could exchange the car. I was told that was not possible. I took the car to Steamboat, and after talking on the phone to Hertz, was told to take the car back the next day and I would receive an email to process a refund. Fortunately, I could rent another car from Avis. After I did not receive an email, I called Hertz and was told there will be no refund as it was a prepaid reservation, even though the vehicle I was given was not what I reserved. Ultimately, I paid over $700 for a car I did not use, and an additional $700. for a car from Avis.. Negotiating their call in service at Hertz is a nightmare! The people you are connected with are very difficult to understand and wait times are incredible. Avoid Hertz as a rental company in general, this location specifically. I will no longer use AAA to rent a car as they are a Hertz partner, and were absolutely no help in trying to correct this situation. It was a very expensive lesson, but well learned!

Ultra friendly staff, went to change our rental car as the previous one (rented from a different location) needed replacing. Helped us out, no questions asked, with minimal heads up.

WORST RENTAL COMPANY ON THE ENTIRE PLANET-THEY LIE, LIE, LIE!!!!!!!!!!! My husband and I were PROMISED by JIM, the Manager of Hertz at Hayden Airport, NUMEROUS TIMES ON THE PHONE, that they WILL rent us a vehicle, using our Debit card, because we had proof of a return flight & 2 forms of ID, which we showed them, in advance by fax, and in person as well, once we arrived at the airport. Well guess what? Because we DO NOT HAVE CREDIT CARDS, AS WE BELIEVE CREDIT CARDS RUIN PEOPLE'S LIVES, they refused to rent to us after all, because folks without credit cards have little or no credit scores! WHY THE HELL DIDN'T THEY TELL US THAT BEFORE WE GOT THERE! We would have set up a rental with a different company if they had have, as it turns out, WE WERE LEFT STRANDED AT THE HAYDEN AIRPORT FOR 2 EXTRA HOURS until a sympathetic driver named Cowboy Carrier gave us a ride into Steamboat where we got a rental from a WONDERFUL company called ENTERPRISE, which we HIGHLY recommend! Anyway, the people at Hertz/Yampa are HORRIBLE, HATEFUL LIARS!!!!! Jim, the manager who just happened to be CONVENIENTLY OUT OF THE OFFICE UNTIL MONDAY (this was a Thursday) is the one who told me repeatedly that he would rent to us 6 months before we actually showed up, and the clerk, whose name I luckily can't remember, was a horrible WITCHY woman who visibly hated her job & hates people as well. Her & Jim DESERVE each other, and I hope that they are both as MISERABLE as they made us! I cannot wait until the CEO of the Hertz Rent-A-Car company get my letter telling them about these people! Outrageous. Rude. Unapologetic. Hands down the worst car rental experience I have ever had.

I had a very difficult experience with Hertz at the Yampa Valley Airport. Upon arriving I was told they would be unable to allow me to rent their cars because I had used my debit card. After calling management, they learned that the policy says otherwise if the customer has two way airfare (as I did). Upon returning the vehicle I found an empty desk with no one available to process a receipt (required for reimbursement purposes). When the nearby helpful Avis staff called the Hertz worker on her personal number to let her know a customer had been waiting - she said 15 minutes. She arrived after 30 minutes and seemed frustrated with her job. My departure leaves in 50 minutes and I've not gone through security - there are two flights in and out here during this season - it seems reasonable to expect to keep that counter staffed the hour before departure and the hour after arrival. Instead, this process delayed a considerable amount of my time. Will not book with Hertz again.
