WARNING: MEDICAL MALPRACTICE. Do not trust with allergies, dermatology, or his judgment regarding what is an emergency situation. Short story: Dr. Howard (mis?)diagnosed my 2yo dog's extremely itchy skin as food allergy induced pyoderma. He gave her 8 different medications including Apoquel and high doses of prednisone over the course of several days trying to manage her symptoms. A month later, she contracted viral pneumonia which killed her. He never warned me about side effects or advised me of any further symptoms to watch out for. If he had warned me, I could have suspected pneumonia, recognized her symptoms as such, sought treatment sooner, and possibly prevented her death. As a means of getting closure, I messaged him asking if these medications could have made her vulnerable to contracting pneumonia and if he believes her diagnosis was correct given that his treatment plan involved such an extreme approach. I never got a response. To me, this spells guilt. This tells me he senses a risk of being sued for medical malpractice. He told me many times how much he dislikes learning about dermatology and allergies - it's boring and he "forces" himself to go to these lectures at conferences. This doesn't scream competency or professional development. Sounds like he follows a textbook approach (if that) rather than applying his own critical thinking and judgment to each unique patient. He did go above and beyond for my dog by treating her outside of business hours. However, while nice, this is easily an example of his disorganized business practices. He rushed her care and made hasty decisions. The x-ray he took was concerning to him, but he just sent me home with oral antibiotics. He did not recognize that she needed to immediately go to the ER for intensive treatment in order to save her life. Instead, he called me 24 hours after that x-ray to tell me that he had a "bad feeling" and to take her into the ER immediately. By then, her x-ray showed progression of disease, and her fate was already sealed. $11,000 and 4 days in the ICU later, she was gone. Just go somewhere else for your pet's care.

Avoid this vet at all costs. I brought my cat in with a bloody stool sample and the vet told me I'm over thinking the situation. My cat had a parasitic infection and has cost me more to provide the proper care he needed elsewhere. I was still charged for the appointment as well. I've never seen such dismissiveness from professionals.

Have been bringing our pets here for years. They helped with the passing of our cat, and we also have two dogs that we bring in regularly. Unfortunately, the last 4 or 5 times I've been in, the women working have been so rude. We have moved recently, so they're no longer the closest to us. We were considering finding another vet anyway, but I was in today and the attitude of everyone in there confirmed that we will be finding another place to spend our money. Dr. Howard, however, is a gem and we will miss him terribly!

About a year ago I took my new rescue kitten here and was pleased with the clinic for the first few visits. However, now that we hit her 1 year they no longer return my calls. They recommended she come in for an exam at least once a year (standard practice). But after 17 voicemails over the course of three weeks with no call back and no answer during business hours I had to give up and find a new Vet. What if my cat had been ill, what if when we were out of town our pet sitter needed to reach them? I can't in good conscience trust my cat's well being with this clinic. Extremely disappointed, would give zero stars if possible.

At the time I took our rescue, in. We had been going to Alameda Vet Clinic for several years. Taking in several rescues and fosters. I took our boy in, it seemed like he was having some breathing issues. We went back and fourth for a couple of months. XRAYS, MEDICATIONS, BLOODWORK, XRAYS, MEDICATONS, BLOODWORK. It was always lets try this or that. Nothing was ever diagnosed, every time I took him home scratching my head, wondering what was going on with my sweet boy. One day it was so bad he just passed out. I rushed him to the ER, thank God, a good vet helped him. She mentioned getting him an echocardiogram, I said yes, lets do it. SURPRISE SURPRISE, our boy was suffering with a bad heart issue. It absolutely, BREAKS MY HEART, thinking my boy suffered. And it makes me so angry thinking about all the money we spent at that HORROR SHOW of a vet hospital. I also know somebody else that went through a horrible experience there.

We moved from Illinois about 6 years ago and Dr. Wilks was a great vet an got our puppy through a prolapsed urethra and a nurturing. Coming from another state and my family vet who is my uncle she went above and beyond. Once she left another doctor took over for our pup he was very knowledgeable and helped us find the solution to our bulldogs allergies with a pill that daily completely took care of his symptoms he also recommended an eye doctor at the vrcc to help with his dry eyes. Because of this success I recommended my brother to take our other bull dog to be seen at this clinic. She was well take care of. That is until the vet recommended that she have her pallet shaved to help with breathing. The operation was performed and she was given no pain killers or anything to help with the swelling. I want to give a shout out to the doctor at the fox hollow vet for doing emergency care and his staff transporting her to the vrcc through their personal vehicle with a throat tube in. Unfortunately she did not make it. Alameda veterinary hospital did refund some money but we won't ever bring our dog back. It is just to sad that our poor Zoey is gone. A third party vet who heavily consulted in the emergency care to try to save Zoey's life strongly believed it was wrong to even attempt the surgery. And as I have already stated through the botched throat surgery and the pneumonia she could not recover, it still brings tears to my eyes. I am sorry I really trusted this establishment but I can't go back.

Brought my cat Princess and my dog Marley in today for vaccines. Everyone is super nice. Dr. Howard was extremely friendly, very informative and honest and has an amazing way with animals. Ive never seen my cat be so calm with a stranger before especially at a vet.
