My husband and I applied for Payroll Protection Program (PPP) forgivable loans (made available through the $2 trillion Covid-19 stimulus package: the CARES Act) through Citywide Banks, which handles our business banking. The loan processors were based on Broomfield. Both of us being self-employed, we qualified and applied for PPP loans for our small businesses through Citywide's online portal immediately upon it coming available. We followed up with them and gave them everything they asked for within hours or even minutes. Everything was perfectly in order. They asked for additional documents today, operating agreements and driver's licenses, for some reason, which we gave to them immediately. Then, we simultaneously received an email that stated, dispassionately, that all SBA funds had been depleted. We called and they said that over the past two weeks Citywide had processed $1.5 billion worth of loans and 1,200 applications... but ours were not among them. In speaking to other small business owners who applied, not a single one was approved—we had “gotten the furthest” in the “application process” of anyone, yet in the end it made no difference. Ruth’s Chris Steak House, with 5000 employee (hardly a “small business”) received a $20,000,000 PPP loan. Yet here we are, the ones hurting the most, and the response we get? “Sorry, better luck next time.” One thing could not have been more clear throughout our interactions with Citywide: they were intentionally misleading us while having no intention of processing our loans. Truly local banks are pretty hard to come by in 2020, and maybe we would have had the same experience anywhere (that’s all we’re hearing), but I urge you to look around for something better than Citywide as they’re no better or more local than the JPMorgan Chases, Banks of America, Citigroups, Wells Fargos, or other blood sucking mega-banks out there.

Citywide was a great bank before HTLF took over. Now they are terrible. It is my opinion, after working with them after the merger, that you should not do business with this bank. Run away as fast as you can and do business at literally any other bank, literally anywhere. Especially this branch and the lazy people working at it.

If I could give ZERO stars to this bank's online bill pay department, I would. I recently opened an account here and scheduled a credit card payment. The bank apparently could not verify the electronic address right away and instead of notifying me they decided to send the payment via CHECK which of course ended up being late and my credit card company charged me a late fee. The customer service was terrible and all they said was I could stop payment on the check which the bank would then try to charge me $35 for even though this was their mistake. No one is authorized to actually DO anything when you call with an issue and when I asked to speak to a manager, he couldn't do anything either. The whole point of ONLINE banking is to make quick payments ELECTRONICALLY. This is what you get when you pick a small-time bank. They aren't open on the weekends, they have antiquated banking practices and their communication is terrible.

A great bank with great people. In the post credit crisis era, it is extremely difficult to find a bank that works to connect with its customers and community while still having a super strong financial acumen. Summit has achieved all of this and more. Can't go wrong!
