Helping a relative with their account here. Four years ago, would have given a four star review, because mostly they have been helpful, but were occasionally difficult to deal with. Today it's a one star, because we have been trying to activate a debit card over the phone (Two minute ordeal anywhere else), and keep getting transferred to different operators, then back to the automated system; that hangs up on us after putting us on hold. It has done this several times over a three day period. Have a small window in the evenings to try to deal with this, due to work. Today, we are calling the bank directly, and hopefully they will be able to help us.

I have used Bank of the West for over 15 years and I have loved there staff and service. This bank is not here to rip you off as some of our local banks in Montrose. I recommend them to anyone in need of a fair service. They have recently joined BMO and I am hoping for the same positive experience.

I've been to this location a handful of times and every time it's been an insane wait time. One teller, usually 1-2 people ahead of me, waiting long enough to make it worth driving 20-30 mins to the next town over. The staff was less friendly than I'm used to at the other location as well. I finally commented on it today and (I'm assuming the branch head) basically told me that that's a fluke and there should always be at least 2 tellers. He bragged about being one of the busiest branches, but I've never seen very many cars here and my experiences (spread out over months) suggest otherwise. I mean normally I'd say "Sure I guess it could be a coincidence." But I don't believe in coincidences and especially not since it's happened every single time I've been here. They said they take alternating lunches from 11-3 which is the time I've usually gone, and I'm assuming one of the busy times for a bank since people often want to cash checks and such on their lunch breaks. So it doesn't make sense to me for them to only have one teller at such a "busy branch" any time during operating hours. Just my observations, I suggest planning on at least 30mins for even a basic deposit. Cuz that's all I've ever done at this location and it's taken at Least that long every time.

$9.50 to cash a check that was written by the bank. And they are making an "exception" because they normally only cash checks M-F even though the drive though is open on Saturday.

Would love to give less stars. Apparently the branch is closed for an unknown amount of time, and they couldnt bother to call or send an email letting customers know that the drive up window and indoor banking were closed? Currently on vacation in Europe and was going to have my paychecks dropped of while I was away, but apparently checks can only be deposited through the ATM with your debit, which is in my pocket in Iceland. Can't wait to close my account when I get back

They have a very pleasant staff. Could do a better job communicating & the ATM needs to be fixed. It won't read payroll checks for deposit all of a sudden. (Update 11/21: The ATM can accept check deposits now)

Bank of the West has always taken great care of our business and personal banking needs, and we have not experienced any of the negative issues mentioned in other reviews. 5 stars, and many thanks to the banking associates.

Terrible. I work in a small local business. Needing change desperately I closed my shop & raced out only to have to sit in the drive through for nearly 20 minutes to then be told I would need to wait as they were very busy (I never asked to jump ahead). I was eventually told by the extremely rude little teller girl they wouldn’t give change to anyone who did not have an account with them. Seriously?! Great help supporting your local businesses. Fortunately Wells Fargo has excellent customer service & helped me with a smile. I suggest taking lessons from them on how to treat locals.

The worst experience in banking possible. Moved to Ridgway 4 years from Houston. Started an account there and have regretted it. Many prior employees have left there including multiple branch managers all of whom have been useless.It took them over 6 months to approve a $150K home improvement loan even with them holding our mortgage and having $80K in checking and a 820 FICO. All while them trying to get us to hand over $10MM to them invest for us. Never!We are closing the account snd choosing another local Bank who will care about our business. These people do not!

The Bank of The West in Montrose is the worst customer service I've ever had with this bank. The lady with the short red hair in particular. The gal at the front with the blond hair was very pleasant and helpful.
