If you are unsure how to buy a good fitting ski boot for your unusual feet, look no further than this shop!! Heather analyzed my feet and ankles, crafted an orthotic and selected an appropriate on-line ski boot at my request. (I purchased these separately). When I returned with the stock boots two weeks later, Ann then took the boots apart and molded them so they fit like a dream! I’ve never had such a thorough boot fitting experience like this!! If you want to ski in comfort, with boots that fit like ski boots are supposed to, I can’t recommend Boulder Orthotics enough. Five stars!!

Heather and Ann are both fantastic - knowledgable, professional, and enthusiastic about fitting and outdoor sports. It's no exaggeration to say that my experience here and with Heather was transformative.I first saw Heather about 2 weeks before leaving the country for a trek in the Himalayas. I'd been hiking all summer, but my feet hurt, my hamstrings felt like they would snap at any minute, and I had persistent periformis/lower back pain. Having tried PT, a lower back program, all kinds of stretching, and over-the-counter shoe inserts to no avail, I sought out Heather's help on a friend's recommendation.During the 2-hour initial visit, she analyzed my gait and told me my right leg is shorter than the left, which was likely causing the low-back pain. She looked at the shoes I wear most often and explained why they didn't give my feet enough support. As she patiently answered all my questions, her knowledge and passion for what she does were evident.After taking a mold of my feet, she went into the back and returned in about 25 minutes with my custom orthotics, which she had crafted to address my low arches, arthitic left big toe and shorter right leg, among other things. I tested them in my hiking boots and other shoes, she made a few tweaks, and I left walking tall (seriously ... I felt like I'd gained 2 inches in height).Here's the transformative part: The NEXT DAY, all my pain and tightness -- in my feet, hamstrings, glutes and lower back -- had disappeared!After wearing the orthotics for a week, I went in again for a couple of minor tweaks. A week later, I left for the trek with my new orthotics AND a new pair of boots she recommended, which fit my feet like they were made for them. Not the best plan to get new footwear and orthotics at that point — I wish I'd known about Boulder Orthotics & Boot Fitting 6 months earlier. But after a week of trekking, I had no pressure points, no blisters and, most important, no pain.You don't have to be a hiker or skier to benefit from Heather's vast knowledge and expertise. If your feet (or legs/back) hurt just from walking, make an appointment with her ASAP. It will change your life.

Bootfitting is not all about going to the right store, its about getting the right person within that store. Only Heather and Ann work in this small, well equipped shop, and they really know what they are doing. I worked with them to get new touring / resort boots this season and they do an amazing job. Incredibly helpful, passionate, and great to work with, you cannot go wrong if you use them to get fit for the season.

My feet have about 5 different issues that make fitting ski boots, running shoes and hiking boots a tedious process. Heather has come up with great solutions for me, from easy out-of-the-box tweaks to creative "rebuilds," and everything in between. She's super-focused, personable, patient and skilled. I'd recommend her to anyone.

As somebody who is in ski boots everyday for work, I need my boots to be functional and comfortable for over 100 days over the course of the season. On top of this, I have an extremely difficult foot to get a comfortable bootfit due to an uncharacteristically small foot for the body type that I have. I have had many bootfits over the years with varying degrees of success and I have specifically had work done by Ann several times. I would not trust anybody more with my boots. So much so that I made sure to incorporate a visit with Ann during my short trip to Colorado from Montana. In summary, I think one would be hard pressed to find a more thorough and thoughtful person to get a bootfit with. This is coming from someone who has worked in the industry for almost a decade and has dealt with many people in the boot fitting world. Wish I could give six stars.

I worked with Heather on two pairs of insoles: one for my cycling shoes and one for my running shoes. I am a triathlete who struggled with foot numbness from forefoot weakness for nearly a year and one ride and run in the custom-molded orthotics completely cured my issue (in addition to ongoing physical therapy to address foot weakness). As someone who competes in all-day endurance events, it was an absolute gift to have feeling back in my feet as the hours wear on in my races. Heather is incredibly knowledgable and her decades of experience shine through in all she does to help you find what insoles work for you. I recommend her to absolutely anyone - from skiers to runners to hikers to the everyday person - looking to improve their experience in their favorite or recreational shoes.

Boulder Orthotics & Boot Fitting is absolutely the best... and I say that as a physical therapist in the community who has been practicing 20+ years and who works extensively with skiers, runners, and athletes of all kinds. All patients I have sent toward Heather and Ann have received great care with great outcomes, due to their expertise. And recently, I entrusted my own feet to Heather with some new AT ski boots and cannot stop raving about what a great job she did. She took the time to sort through some biomechanical challenges with my ankles and feet, and nailed it with modifications to make the boots both comfortable and able to navigate the terrain. I highly recommend these skilled practitioners!!

Heather Van Gilder is the best bootfitter in the West! She made me two sets of Custom Orthotics and fit my Ski Boots.
